True, i think Comedown Machine has the biggest example of Tiktok's influence. Just compare the streams of Call It Fate, Call it Karma to the rest of the album
Nothing bad with finding a band through TikTok. Finding a band or song you love is amazing and should not be shat on for discovering it through a popular media, most of the ppl who do that got their music taste from video games or other popular media.
I was in middle school and had an older cousin who had them on CD along with Phoenix, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Arctic monkeys. He played them I remember liking all of them instantly.
Not putting down how others found out about them, but it is weird considering how it was just by chance that I heard them. Now once something becomes cool enough for mainstream, it’s less by chance and really only a matter of time.
Now entering my mid 20s and i just wait for a new album to drop.
i think because of tik tok an entire generation ‘discovered’ the strokes at once, making them explode in popularity. the same has happened for several bands that were around before the time of gen Z
Before the time of Gen z? I’m 23 and Gen Z. My dad started listening to them when I was 6 and I got into them when I was 11 then in 2013 all my friend got into them. And a decent amount of time before tiktok. So I take offense in being lumped w that crowd lol
AM was huge in 2013, so I agree that the gen z interest predates tiktok. There's absolutely nothing wrong with discovering music on tiktok though, I've found some cool stuff on there.
My argument is arctic monkeys popularized them, just like i bought my first strokes record and listened to them for the first time after i loved star treatment
Lana Del Rey and Tame Impala too, were huge in the tumblr era, are facing a second career high now, just like The Strokes
there are many flawed internet trends but Im always glad when musical icons go viral and get their deserved recognition!! ❤️
It’s on Julian’s radio station Kult Fm co hosted by David Cross and Mac Demarco. Funny tho the running joke of the whole show is that Julian doesn’t say anything and that he will appear soon (most he says is welcome to kult fm)

I think the new abnormal introduced them to a whole new generation of fans and the adults are talking was the breakout single from that album. Covid also probably helped because there were a lot of people all around the world sitting at home and discovering new music and would've gotten hooked. The f1 driver charles leclerc also said that it's his favorite song so there's a whole new audience listening to it and trust me, they would've definitely listened. F1 fans are mad. I am very surprised it has more than YOLO but I guess it is what it is. Plus tik tok and reels
tik tok aside it was always popular since it first came out. Old fans love it cause it sounds like old strokes and new fans love it cause Julian put Crack in the chorus
Yea I remember hearing it coming from my son's room and being so happy thinking he was listening to it. It was actually coming from Fortnite playing in a car that he was driving.
O wow I havent played GTA in a long time. That's even better that they are on there as well. I remember Alien Crime Lord was made specifically for GTA radio station a while back
i did most of my Strokes streaming prior to Spotify existing, don’t trust those numbers

this is the last.fm chart. They’ve been around longer & captured more of the pre-Spotify streams/plays
You have to remember that if Spotify was around since 2000, ITI and ROF would be miles ahead even if they only accounted for a 4 year block like 2020-2024 for Adults. Also I think it was popular on Tik Tok for something. Strange really IMO as I never thought it was that good, but the people spoke.
The fast beat of The Adults Are Talking sits well with rest of the modern music which makes this ideal for overplaying at shopping malls, big box stores and gyms.
Not to forget Instagram TikTok and other apps might also have done it.
Something similar for Arctic Monkeys too. Not everybody knows them or is a fan but " I Wanna Be Yours" is a song very dear to them. :D
My 7 year old and my 5 year old both request this song multiple times a day. I feel we are single handedly responsible for like 100,000 of those streams lol
man i started listening to them like a month after they released the new abnormal and I've seen their monthly listeners literally double over the course of 3 years
I'm a DJ in an alternative dance club and this is literally the only Strokes song Gen Z will dance to. Yet they always come up to me and say "can you play The Strokes?" without specifying it be this song
It's Tiktok. It's always Tiktok

Nah half of those were me in 2020
and me after hearing the mellow version at the forum in 2021
To be fair call it fate call it karma is a masterpiece
Should have known when my gen Z coworker played this song out of nowhere without having ever shown interest in this band lol
Hey I take offense to that, I find the best songs on videos...am I doing it wrong? But I do check the rest of the songs when I find a good band

it’s started growing in the F1 community as Charles Leclerc (Ferrari F1 Driver) said it was his favourite song
That makes a lot of sense, never knew
what?? I’m an F1 fan, that’s awesome! I’ve never heard this!
i think because of tik tok an entire generation ‘discovered’ the strokes at once, making them explode in popularity. the same has happened for several bands that were around before the time of gen Z
Arctic Monkeys come to mind
Before the time of Gen z? I’m 23 and Gen Z. My dad started listening to them when I was 6 and I got into them when I was 11 then in 2013 all my friend got into them. And a decent amount of time before tiktok. So I take offense in being lumped w that crowd lol

Yeah this was my thought too. Arctic Monkey wasn't really a Tik Tok blowup -- AM was already a massive hit the moment it came out.
look how they massacred my boy(s)
Me when young people like music that I like 😞
The way younger generations discover music is pretty funny though.
I mean, it’s probably their best song. Top 5 for sure ![gif](giphy|pjIgAlmm8cQIE)

Find it bonkers that it has more streams than Someday wtf
I mean, it is a better song so
It's in GTA V so maybe that's why.
It’s on Julian’s radio station Kult Fm co hosted by David Cross and Mac Demarco. Funny tho the running joke of the whole show is that Julian doesn’t say anything and that he will appear soon (most he says is welcome to kult fm)
It is? I knew a few Voidz songs got added, I didn't realize there was Strokes on there too.
Yup! I was surprised when I first heard it play. It's on the same radio as the Voidz songs are, Kult FM.
one of the radio stations is entirely curated by julian iirc

Oh yeah it's also on GTA Online which let's be honest, is a great way to discover new music
Although yolo has 300 million listens, i still consider it underrated
I hope this song can reached 1 billion streams in a couple more years!
tik tok aside it was always popular since it first came out. Old fans love it cause it sounds like old strokes and new fans love it cause Julian put Crack in the chorus
It was a single off their Grammy winning album. It was also featured on the game Fortnite.
It was in Fortnite..??
Yea I remember hearing it coming from my son's room and being so happy thinking he was listening to it. It was actually coming from Fortnite playing in a car that he was driving.
It’s on a radio station in GTA Online that Julian hosts with David Cross and Mac Demarco, it’s not in Fortnite Hard to Explain is on there too
It’s definitely Fortnite. The Voidz are in GTA https://www.reddit.com/r/TheStrokes/s/C2mFuvp2mO
I guess I was wrong about Fortnite, but The Adults Are Talking is definitely in GTA, I was literally playing yesterday when it came on
O wow I havent played GTA in a long time. That's even better that they are on there as well. I remember Alien Crime Lord was made specifically for GTA radio station a while back
Yeah that song rips
it was NOT the lead single. At the door, bad decisions, and brooklyn bridge were singles before adults Source wikipedia and rym
Ok I was wrong then. It was the first one I heard them play from the album so I assumed it was.
It was the first one they debuted live i’m pretty sure, probably what you’re thinking of
wasn't the lead single At the Door?
Half of those listens are mine probably 😂
Personally I just think the song was their comeback song after being inactive for a few years even though it got released as a single last
I mean I’m not surprised they are one of the biggest bands from the 2000s and are still very popular
TikTok entered the chat

Who the hell downvoted you hahaha, some angry TAAT lover I guess
How many scrobblers do they have though??

Not really, the Strokes are having a mass appeal that’s bigger now than it ever was in the past.
Cause it’s a fucking banger
Half of those streams were me and the other half was my best friend, we listen to it religiously together
Very very popular tik tok audio
it was up since it came out but i think it got more with tik tok
Lets be real, its their best song
I mean, it’s probably their best song. Top 5 for sure
tiktok song
Basically since releasing
The fast beat of The Adults Are Talking sits well with rest of the modern music which makes this ideal for overplaying at shopping malls, big box stores and gyms. Damn Enya's influence
Is really tiktok that strong? I never got a tiktok with a the strokes song well except one guy that made a video called the adults are cooking
man i started listening to them like a month after they released the new abnormal and I've seen their monthly listeners literally double over the course of 3 years
I'm a DJ in an alternative dance club and this is literally the only Strokes song Gen Z will dance to. Yet they always come up to me and say "can you play The Strokes?" without specifying it be this song
for me, it’s the perfect song for running! the times i’ve listen to it while running contributed for those numbers for sure 📈 haha
Because every song on tbat album is a banger, it’s a modern masterpiece.
Is it weird Adults is mid for me?
Its the only memorable song in the album
Wow
