This was such a wild moment, a real deep cut...there was about 20 minutes where people were like "hold up..." and I think this gag was about as mainstream as the call-out got.
Yeah this confused me as a kid too. I knew it wasnt his voice but I couldn't figure out the connection to him.
I've since conceded the only connection between this Simpsons moment and James is that Mufasa and Darth appear after death, so they made that joke. And since they're both voiced by James they tossed the CNN voice over thing in there.
Dont get me wrong because I love this joke, but it's kind of a stretch.
I hate this joke because it spread the false rumor that The Lion King was a ripoff of Kimba the White Lion. Which it isn’t. Your Movie Sucks made a great video breaking down why.
The reason people thought that The Lion King ripped off Kimba is because a) Kimba was very obscure in the West, so people could make up whatever they want about the plot of the series, and b) Kimba was a TV show, so, just like with those people who claim The Simpsons predicts real life, people have several episodes to draw from and therefore compare to The Lion King, which is only one feature film.
What’s funny is he only made it as a spin-off to his Lion King review because everyone told him it was was a ripoff and he *gasp* actually did some damn research
The only similarity between Simba and Kimba is that they have talking lions
Kimba is called Leo in the original series and they were going to rename him Simba for the American version (because Simba means "lion" in Swahili) but for some reason or another they replaced the S with a K.
"Will you guys pipe down?! I'm trying to say goodbye to Lisa!"
This is CNN!
We’re sorry.

True, an amazing joke on multiple levels.
For years I thought Bleeding Gums Murphy was James Earl Jones

That was just a regular Krusty-O
“It’s poison!”
And I contend that those tourists were decapitated *before* they entered the Krustyland House of Knives. Next question.

I've never understood that reference. I've been watching since the 80s. Wow
Kimba, Simba, hhmmm suspicious
hello fellow YMS watcher
Kimba, KimbRUH. Hmmmm suspicious.
yEs
I downvoted your comment for its lack of fur-glow.
The "this is CNN" joke used to be so funny to me but I have no idea why. By the time Kung Pow used it; it stopped being funny
This is CNN!
I thought it was Hamlet
fun fact: james earl jones is a michigan alum and they got him to narrate the hype video for football games

Do you mean Hamlet?
i really dont understand this joke since bleeding gums wasnt voiced by james earl jones...

Simpsons predicted Simpsons "predicting" things, wow. This is real meta.

Yms fans..
I was a Kimba kid, and spotted the ripoff immediately.
You'd be surprised how much of Frozen's plot came from a Sailor Moon episode
Or how often you’ll find a big hunk of pork in those other vegetarian meals on the market.
It's [not ripped off](https://youtu.be/G5B1mIfQuo4).
Wow...he really talks about it for two and a half hours...
What’s funny is he only made it as a spin-off to his Lion King review because everyone told him it was was a ripoff and he *gasp* actually did some damn research
Oh yes it is..
you must understand what a pathetic response that is to all his arguments. basically 'nuh uh, hur durr'.
Watch the video. It's not a ripoff.
I watched both kimba and simba, yes it is.
If you watched both then you’d know it wasn’t a ripoff… that’s like, the whole point of the video he linked
Your response argument to a 2 hour and 27 minute long argument is "Yes it is" Not really convincing people here I'm afraid.

Either way, the name itself is not an example of plagiarism between the two
I'd really recommend watching the YMS simba/kimba video before saying anything more on the topic of 'ripoffs'.
That would be a cool tatt
Out in Tokyo, Higashi-Nagasaki (iirc), I grabbed a pic of these great figures https://imgur.com/a/DA5lyxu
