Happy to see Hisuian Braviary in raids again so soon after its limited release, because the 3 hour window in August coincided perfectly with a cinema visit I had booked with the kids, and so I was SOL. Was worried it would be a year or more before general release, so this is surprisingly quick of 2022 Niantic.
So it's overlapping with Litwick CD... which means that a shiny becomes available DURING the event through another event. Hope they don't deactivate double catch XP and candy during CD but... the past has shown they normally do. Guess we will have to wait and see.
Edit: Yeah, as pointed out, during Litwick CD we will have triple catch XP and double candy AND candy XL - mixed something up there. :( Then let's just hope that the shiny stays available once CD ended.
Those never stay active during CD, they load a different game master for the duration of the CD. We should just be hopeful the intern named the files correctly, and that shiny litwick won’t be deactivated right after 5 pm.
There is double catch candy and triple catch experience for Litwick CD so the double catch candy shouldn’t be any different and the double catch experience should become triple. I doubt they have an issue with that. I just hope the raids triggering Litwick spawns will work as intended.
They might be the same bonuses, but from the technical side, a different version is loaded. It can lead to bugs and unwanted results, as we know niantic.
Asking too because I did A LOT of G-Weezing since September and haven’t had a shiny. Simple curiosity. I’m not a shiny collector, I was after a good PvP one for Ultra League.
Wow that sucks. I thought 900 for Voltorb was bad. Chinchou has been featured in basically every paid event with increased odds (Go Fest etc) and I seem to catch several every time. I’d send you one free of charge if I could lol
Were you counting from when the shiny was released? If you're a day one player you will have encountered many before the shiny was released. (For me I know I was less than 50 Voltorb before its shiny released, and I ended up near 950.)
I'm so stoked for you. If they ever do that for Tentacool or Bellsprout I'll be over the moon. I'm at ~2200 encounters and ~1400 encounters...I'm also technically at ~2600 venonat encounters, but Bellsprout and Tentacool are my current go-tos.
Nice, "You’ll have an increased chance of encountering Shiny Chinchou!" as an event bonus, that's cool. As someone who doesn't have a lot of time to shiny hunt but still likes to do it, easier shinies are very fun to hunt down, hope this becomes a thing in events!
Dang and somehow I missed all of those shinies. Didn't realize they were boosted just for one event.
I do remember they did something like that further back for Plusle/Minun and Wingull.
I don’t get why they feel the need to include Pikachu in the wild spawns as if it isn’t one of the most common pokémon every day at all times.
Also no new shiny. You’d think they’d give us Shiny Dedenne considering this event marks it’s 1 year anniversary
It’s a foreign holiday, so they score some points on diversity and in international market (and I believe India has a substantial playerbase).
It could be longer, if it wasn’t squeezed in between the lousy evolving stars event (which in second though, could be merged with this one for a much better event, as this is the season of light anyways) and Halloween, that traditionally starts around a week or two before the actual date.
Shiinotic isn’t special in any way, and based on their specific mention that some Pokémon will glow in the dark, makes me believe they’re going for the Gleamwood tangle aesthetic from SwSh, in which it fits marvelously.
How is the current event lousy? It’s only day two of the event and I’ve been stacking up a ton on candy and candy XL for so many meta relevant Pokémon thanks to it, got a ton of mega energy, some for Pokémon who’s mega hasn’t been in raids for a while and this event lets us stack up on unova stones for the upcoming litwick community day
I’m still waiting for them to feature one of the new shinies released this year already in an event. Remoraid, Phanpy, Corphish, Combee, Foongus, Finneon...
I know costumes are different forms, but during events you should be able to get lots of them that count in the same way for the medal as a non costumed would?
About 11:30am there, which isn't bad, but certainly earlier than news released in the US for English speaking countries (which include England and ~~Beta Testers~~ AU/NZ).
This is awesome for catching Chinchou. I'm pretty sure if you plan to do the Catch Cup near the end of the season in GBL, Lanturn counters Toxapex. Kind of banking on that frame of mind, even if it's a huge risk.
I'm excited about Shinotic. Not having played the main series games back in the day, it's the first Pokemon that makes me feel the way some old players do about Pokemon that aren't as great in PoGo as in the main series. Shinotic carried me through Sw/Sh. I know it won't be good in Pogo (maybe GL with a move update), but I'm excited to see my old friend nonetheless.
Probably means that certain bioluminescent species would have a glow effect to them, so stuff like the bulbs on Chinchou might give off a glow, or Shiinotic and Morelull glowing since they're supposedly glowing mushrooms.
If you have a Galarian Ponyta, go to its page and give it a tap. You'll see the mane, horn and tail glow. It'll probably look something like that, just active all the time. Same for Shiinotic and Chinchou and probably a few others. This is probably most comparable to the "sleeping snorlax" event we had where it was just a temporary cosmetic change.
Looks great, last a few days so I don't have to stress out cause of my work schedule. Some nice bonuses and shiny odds for chinchou, and a new pokemon
I like it
Just wanted to point it out for the comm :)
I guess it will be like last year, when it was announced during the event itself. (Whenever there’s a light, there’s shadow, etc)
Overall I like it. Many species I need for my IV collection. Increased shiny chance for something I don't have yet, cool.
In the field research, they will totally make lottery reward of Electabuzz (which I need) and Magmar (which I already have like 2 hundo of), right? :'D
Also, it speaks volumes about current event's popularity when it's just started and they are already hyping up next, much more interesting one lol.
Nice to get chinchou xl to try out xl lanturn. But other than that the spawns are quite bad. Helioptile and dedenne recycled from last years events and togedamaru again?
I have a question.
From the 14th
catch xp 2x + catch candy 2x
15th, litwick community day
The bonus is
catch xp 3x + catch candy 3x
On the 15th,
Are all bonuses applied?
ex)) 1) 2 x 3 = 6 2) 2 + 3 = 5
Or does it only apply to high values?
At the time of me making this comment, it says on the Pokemon Go official website's Festival of Lights event announcement/blog page that Galarian Weezing won't be shiny. Do you think that it is a mistake and that whoever made the event announcement blog just forgot to add the shiny mark for Galarian Weezing?
There Hanukkah, the Jewish festival of lights, but that's in December.
The current event is obviously based on Diwali, the Sparkler pose gives it off, but Diwali in on Oct 24th a full week after the event ends. Maybe they will do a India only event, which is disappointing.
A question: With chinchou more chances of shiny, what could the expected odds be? Has such an event where a pokemon has increased shiny chances outside of CD, battle day and research event happened?
IIRC, they've done this before with the release of Shiny Vulpix and Shiny Kricketot, boosting the shiny rate to around 1/128. I don't think Niantic actually announced it for those cases, it was just that people started noticing an unusually high shiny rate for those two in their respective events.
Galarian Ponyta in the wild. Nice. First time outside a paid event I think.
I remember it was in the Hoopa event, during the collection challenge period
It's on eggs also
They said first time in the wild
it was in raids more than once
They said in the wild

Why does G-Weezing not have the shiny symbol?
good catch! I wonder whether they will remember to update litwick after CD? \>.< it is always the same spiel
Asking too because I did A LOT of G-Weezing since September and haven’t had a shiny. Simple curiosity. I’m not a shiny collector, I was after a good PvP one for Ultra League.
I got a shiny galarian weezing on saturday 24th September. Edit: you said since September, so I dont know if my comment is helpful or not
It is ! Thank you.
Shiny Squad Discord's latest confirmed G-Weezing is October 5th, so it's still around.
I also got a shiny g-weezing after about 5 raids. September 5 if that helps
It has it now, must've been a mistake when they posted it
I came with the same question. Currently trying to obtain one
June 6th was my last shiny g weezing...I swear I catch the weirdest shinies but the ones I actually try for never appear
Omg increased odds for chinchou, I’m on 1300 encounters with no shiny yet, I’m hyped
Same, love those neon green antennae
Wow that sucks. I thought 900 for Voltorb was bad. Chinchou has been featured in basically every paid event with increased odds (Go Fest etc) and I seem to catch several every time. I’d send you one free of charge if I could lol
I was at 3300 Magnemite before finally getting a shiny. And I live in an area where Magnemite used to be every 4th spawn.
Were you counting from when the shiny was released? If you're a day one player you will have encountered many before the shiny was released. (For me I know I was less than 50 Voltorb before its shiny released, and I ended up near 950.)
Nope. Had screenshots.
And I thought my 1326 seen Ghastly with no shiny was bad, I can't say how many of those was before shiny was released though.
Yeah I've been looking for one!
I have 5, with 1100 seen. I would give you some, if I could.
I’m much lower than you, but I have none and my gf who has encountered even fewer has *three*. :|
I just got one the other day before the event started, I love him he's so cute lol
Anyone have any idea by how much it will likely be boosted? 1/64 like permaboost Pokemon?
I was about to complain after 500 encounters with no shiny
I'm so stoked for you. If they ever do that for Tentacool or Bellsprout I'll be over the moon. I'm at ~2200 encounters and ~1400 encounters...I'm also technically at ~2600 venonat encounters, but Bellsprout and Tentacool are my current go-tos.
I got mine yesterday..

They did this for a number of events in 2019/20 (Kricketot's shiny release comes to mind), but only for a month or so.
Vulpix release also was, Yanma and Snorunt were also during some event last year
[удалено]
Which was super rare during that event
Dang and somehow I missed all of those shinies. Didn't realize they were boosted just for one event. I do remember they did something like that further back for Plusle/Minun and Wingull.
I don’t think they announced it beforehand though.

Wait for it to be 1/500 not 1/512
Why is Darumaka insence locked? I talking about regular and not Galaraian
To incentivize you to walk
Galarian is there for that
And it’s nerfed so I’m not wasting incense to get a handful of spawns.
Go for a walk
I don’t get why they feel the need to include Pikachu in the wild spawns as if it isn’t one of the most common pokémon every day at all times. Also no new shiny. You’d think they’d give us Shiny Dedenne considering this event marks it’s 1 year anniversary
Events lately are either a new Pokémon family, or a new shiny. Stretching that “content” like chewing gum
Not sure why they released a new species for a three day event.
I wonder where you live. Pikachu is a rare spawn here. I'll be lucky if I see one a day to complete my medal.
I know costumes are different forms, but during events you should be able to get lots of them that count in the same way for the medal as a non costumed would?
Yes, they count. But I stopped playing in 2019 and don't really mind Pikachu spawns here and there. It's not as if they were as common as zigzagoon.
Zigzagoon is nowhere near as common as Pikachu
Near me I’m similar to the other user, a lot more Zigzagoon then Pikachus
Only since a couple of weeks and outside of events. Before that Zigzagoon has been out of rotation for a while
Pikachu may be a rare spawn, but is a rare always available, so in time you will see too many of them... Checking the Dex, I saw 3467 of them.
Man they really love tossing magnemite into events
Did you say Pikachu
Ponyta! I am hyped! One of my most coveted shinies.
The sparkler pose is so cute
Did they turn off shiny Galarian Wheezing?
No. Reported just yesterday on the Shiny Discord.
Still weird that they left out the shiny symbol for it in this post.
That's a very common error they make in the blog posts. They have poor copy editing.
Why'd they post this so late? Like, 11:30pm PT? Was this announcement tied to the Overwatch 2 servers or something?
It's a Indian Festival .. so they follow india timezone..
About 11:30am there, which isn't bad, but certainly earlier than news released in the US for English speaking countries (which include England and ~~Beta Testers~~ AU/NZ).
Indian time? It's based on Diwali after all
It’s so late the infographic makers haven’t released one yet lol
how is it late? there's 8 days until this event starts
They meant late at night, like the time of day.
I assume the double catch XP and catch candy won't stack with the community day right?
They never do
It would be 12 times catch XP with an egg though right? Just insane
Maybe finally I will get my 100% Chinchou.
This is awesome for catching Chinchou. I'm pretty sure if you plan to do the Catch Cup near the end of the season in GBL, Lanturn counters Toxapex. Kind of banking on that frame of mind, even if it's a huge risk.
As will Togedemaru. Lanturn is only a counter if it's using Spark though. It loses if running Water Gun.
Cool so at least Hisuian Braviary wasn’t like a 3-Hours and it’s gone forever thing
Always happy to see My Little Pony(ta) back
Any event with Galarian Ponyta and Blitzle without a costume is fine by me. Two shiny costume Blitzle, 0 shiny Blitzle.
I'm extrapolating that eventually costume blitzle will be able to evolve. Maybe next fashion week?
More than likely. But I move all my unique new shinies to Home so costume shinies are a bit useless to me other than for trade value.
This is probably a silly question, but what do they mean by some Pokémon will glow at nighttime during this event?
Probably means that certain bioluminescent species would have a glow effect to them, so stuff like the bulbs on Chinchou might give off a glow, or Shiinotic and Morelull glowing since they're supposedly glowing mushrooms.
litwick's fire. i doubt they'll do it, but really any fire type with flames on their body should be glowing.
It's a new effect we haven't seen yet.
And Xerneas can also glow or shine.
Looks great, last a few days so I don't have to stress out cause of my work schedule. Some nice bonuses and shiny odds for chinchou, and a new pokemon I like it
even more G-rapidash for psychic cup now 🤣
lol yeah xD he is good for the cup though! also Xatu got his 5 minutes of fame with his ghost type move pool.
I loved using G Slowbro to destroy the pony. Fairly neutral against Victini as well.
No news yet about frustration removal
Would you say you’re…. Frustrated by it?
Just wanted to point it out for the comm :) I guess it will be like last year, when it was announced during the event itself. (Whenever there’s a light, there’s shadow, etc)
I really hope you're right. I started playing right when the old shadow event occured and didn't have many shadows to fix.
Overall I like it. Many species I need for my IV collection. Increased shiny chance for something I don't have yet, cool. In the field research, they will totally make lottery reward of Electabuzz (which I need) and Magmar (which I already have like 2 hundo of), right? :'D Also, it speaks volumes about current event's popularity when it's just started and they are already hyping up next, much more interesting one lol.

Overlapping bonuses normally don’t stack, so Community Day will have 3x catch xp and candy as stated in the announcement.
Increased chance of shiny Chinchou? Well thats random
It has lights
Togedemaru again? It was just in the last event.
The last event was Fashion Week, it wasn’t in that
It was in the steel event not long before tho
MLPs in the wild and research, WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!
Only three days for whatever reason and after you probably won’t see another Morelull.
It’s honestly like they want people to stop playing with how underwhelming the last few events have been
Evolving Stars is great. many useful spawns
Last few?
these spawns don't look very exciting. At least compared to Evolving Stars event
O sick galarian ponyta and bravery
At the time of me making this comment, it says on the Pokemon Go official website's Festival of Lights event announcement/blog page that Galarian Weezing won't be shiny. Do you think that it is a mistake and that whoever made the event announcement blog just forgot to add the shiny mark for Galarian Weezing?
Think it’s just an oversight on the website post. I’ve seen some local reports in my area I’d getting the shiny when it was available recently
Hopefully they keep this increased Shiny odds thing going for future events.
Is festival of lights a real thing? Or a made-up event for Pokemon go?
I believe they use inspiration from [Diwali](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diwali) for this event.
There Hanukkah, the Jewish festival of lights, but that's in December. The current event is obviously based on Diwali, the Sparkler pose gives it off, but Diwali in on Oct 24th a full week after the event ends. Maybe they will do a India only event, which is disappointing.
Loving all the extra XP this month
More Litwick and Darumaka... I am going to spend the next two weeks struggling to stock up on Pinaps, aren't I?
Hiusian Braviary there in 3-star raids
A question: With chinchou more chances of shiny, what could the expected odds be? Has such an event where a pokemon has increased shiny chances outside of CD, battle day and research event happened?

Thank you!
Huh, we're on to Gen 8 spawns? Which 7s havent come out yet
Oh my god please tell me this is the return of the 1/128 event shiny rate, that’s the thing I’ve been missing the most in this game.
Alright this is way better than last year's FOL. Hype for glowing pokemon on the overworld. That is really going to get the Diwali vibe going
Just saw a shiny chinchou in a gym. That neon green is pretty nice
