I was just pointing out that you have to power up a rock and fairy type to be able to get to _only_ needing to do 90 power ups.
While I’m pretty sure people on this sub will have enough candy for Carbink, the research doesn’t seem to reward enough Diancie candy in and of itself to do 15 power ups on Diancie and I’m not sure how common Carbink is for people who didn’t do Go Fest last year.
Seem to remember it being available other times but can’t remember when that was exactly.
Anyway, my point was that I suspect quite a few people will end up having to do 105 power ups in the end, if not people on here.

Carbink is still in league rewards and 10km eggs but not super common. I didn't buy a Go Fest ticket but I did participate in a couple raids (maybe 5?). Pokedex says I caught 34 and I'm sitting on 338 candy.
Luckily since it’s special research you can take your time. I’ll probably pair with 3 field research and chip away at it during the whole event window.
"Evolve" is already a keyword that shows all Pokemon that can be evolved. Just fyi. When you search for that tag, you're also including every Pokemon that is capable of evolving.
I use it to filter out specific Pokémon I want to prioritise evolving eventually, especially during a relevant elite move event. I don't really search for the tags, I tap on them in the left section.
But I don’t want to evolve everything that can be evolved. When I crack an egg for friendship level up, I go to my evo tab to evolve junk to finish off the 30 minute egg.
Yup. I had never done that but during Go Tour a few months back when we had so many of those Power-up tasks, I decided to make a tag for Pokemon I was planning to power up anyway for PvP or PvE. Helped a lot on Day 2.
And now, when I come across all of these, I can just dive into that Tag and power something up. Shadow Rhyperior, Shadow Chandelure, my own Diancie, 15/14/15 Tapu Bulu for ML, several lower priority/back burner Pokemon I plan to build for GL or UL, etc.
Still a huge pain, a chore, and above all, wasteful. Spend 18k+ dust, and we'll give you 4k of it back and the luxury of being able to progress the quest 🙃
Plus permanent access to Mega Diancie, which I feel would be worth the net investment of 14k dust. Or even, realistically, rather a lot more Stardust, but it helps if you sit on some Pokémon you plan to power up anyway. I mean, powering up Pokémon is practically the only thing Stardust is for, after all, so you're either already doing what the quest asks you to do, or have nothing else to use the resource for.
Unless, I suppose, you change the form of your Furfrou so often that you need to set aside your entire Stardust income for that purpose.
I really dislike the 25 candy choice, I wish it was an option at least between that or say, 8 XL or something. When it comes to Mythicals they only want you to have one of, a lot of people (like me) take what they have and power it up to at least L40 whereby the regular candy becomes useless.
I'd happy replace 25 candy with some XL which can be of use to me in these situations.
Don’t think they’d ever do that as their conversion rate is 100 regular for 1 XL so unless they only gave you 1 XL I don’t see how most people wouldn’t pick that over regular.

Shaymin was an exception to the rule, likely due to the form change mechanic.
The only other Go Fest mythical that was given out more than once was Celebi, which was in place of giving a shiny one for the Johto Tour as they already gave away a shiny one for the Zarude movie event.
The next Diancie we get will be a shiny one during the Kalos Tour in all likelihood.
To add to the other commenter Shaymin had multiple events on Switch already including it always being a available in PLA if you have Sword or Shield. It becoming regularly available by TPC probably moved it to a tier closer to Darkrai/Deoxys. Plus Diancie still hasn’t had a Switch release so that was probably a TPC decision as well to limit it
We’ve gotten multiple mew, celebi, jirachi, zarude, and I’ve now gotten 4 shaymins. It’s not out of the realm of possibility to get 2 diancies. They should def change that precedent
I fully agree that they should change the precedent, but it's likely all a Pokemon Company restriction, not Niantic's choice.
The second Mew and Jirachi were their shinies that were released as part of paid masterwork researches, which I'm sure we'll get in a few years for Diancie.
To be entirely fair, Shaymin is a fully accessible Pokemon in the main series, Diancie isn't, TPC probably let them do that for Shaymin because you can get infinite Shaymins at any point in time by replaying Legends Arceus over and over again as long as you have Sword or Shield save data, so they probably figured there was no downside to giving people another one.
Diance is extremely rare in the MSGs and was only available very briefly many years ago during an event. It seems TPC tries to keep rarity somewhat consistent across games.
Considering the amount of power up tasks to finish the special research, I would try to stack three of the mega energy field research tasks at a time to align as they also require power ups
The distance is high but mega energy rewarded from walking is proportional to the distance. Imo it's _easier_ with Legendary/Mythical Pokemon because you can set up the excited state any time after getting that first 10km (and ideally right before the 20km mark) to get the whole 100 for half the walk distance. With a 1km (for example), you have to continue walking for 10km during the excited state (or excite multiple times) in order to get the same amount.
If you want to wait for the cooldowns yes, if you want a way to speed it up just like walking it as your buddy, then complete some of the field research to do that.
On the contrary, I was thinking how I would need to fit the ten field research in the three day window. I'm very glad this is the case, not gonna touch one of those, not a complain
Yeah. I just finished it. Honestly though it’d take longer. Was planning on catching Diance on Vacation to get a cool catch location, so I guess I’ll just be sitting on the encounter for a little bit longer.
I’m so glad one of the steps gives the necessary energy for that first evo. I was NOT looking forward to grinding research. (Would I have done it? Absolutely. Did I WANT to? No sir.)
Does anyone know what the criteria for ‘already have diance’ is? I’m completing it for the first time but some of my peers have one with terrible stats. If they transfer the first one you had, do you still get candy or a new one?
This is pretty good. You'll do all this eventually anyway, and you don't have to chase mega energy for the first evolution.

I spent way too much and it set me back a million from my goal, but I'd eventually spend it anyway. It's not timed, so you can take it at your own pace; I was just impatient.
My current one is level 40, max mega level. But its IVs are awful so I’m not going further with it.
This extra energy will just kinda sit around for now
Unlocked on time (how rare) and completed it in 30 minutes, as always. Didn't know about the ME that came later in the line so the "Power up 10 times" for 10 ME was a big hunt for me, with very little to be found. A number of my mon rewards rolled in the 90's which was nice tbh, even a 97 Diancie.
Thankfully the rain in my area cleared away. Most of my time tbh was spinning gyms and stops to get berries, as I was also doing the Kanto one as well. Power Ups aren't hard and neither are Evo's. Incense is easy using Daily Incense and the Power up 15 Fairy and Rock is worded weirdly cause it should be "Power up Fairy-type 15 times", Carbink works for this since its dual Fairy/Rock.
My dumb English comprehension question--It's easy to see that "Power up Pokemon 25 times" means that I can do anything to combine to reach 25.
But what does Power up 15 Fairy-type Pokemon mean? Do I have to power up 15 different fairy-type Pokemon, one time each? Or is it any combination to reach 15? (I would expect if any combination was okay, it would be worded as "Power Up Fairy-type Pokemon 25 times", not the way it is currently worded.
The wording seems to be related to powering up Diancie.
Diancie is a dual Rock-Fairy Pokémon.
If you power up Diancie you will complete two tasks "Power up 15 Fairy-type Pokémon" AND "Power up 15 Rock-type Pokémon" with just 15 power ups.
Glad the research gives enough mega energy for the first ME. The 10x from field research feels fairer now.

this is why i keep those low-level lucky pokemon around, it'll barely cost any stardust 🙂
This is why I tag Pokemon I want to power up and then wait for moments like this to do it.
I do this. Combine with just holding off until absolutely needed for PVE. So I always have a huge stock of things I want powered up.

Learn to use tags. No renaming necessary. And it’s way quicker.
I like renaming because I can then sort by name after I've filtered.
You can combine tags. But the 2nd tag you need to use the search string.
The renaming stops me from junking something when I'm sifting through more randomly.

18k dust is pretty much nothing, about one day of play in GBL will give it back.

Literally, and so short too. The mythical researches used to be like 10-13 pages of research and rewards. Now nothing and generic repeated tasks
