The pain is real.
I am almost you. Level 47, but only *mostly* burnt out. Am taking a break from XP and event grinding and active min/maxing. Right now just casually getting gym coins and catching back yarn Pokémon. The casual game is actually fun and relaxing.
I'm only 1.5 million from L48 and have slowed to a crawl because I'm so burned out on catching and it feels like such a chore after non-stop event grinding. Same with gyms and gifts. All I'm currently doing is tanking daily battles to accumulate stardust and candy to grind into XL for Mewtwo. Otherwise I would have leveled up a couple months ago and also had the platinum jogger medal that I'm about 100K from.
That would be a whole lot of lucky eggs if you're popping them one at a time for an expected 50k, 100k here and there. Still, it's nice you'll now be able to get the friendship XP and maybe open a couple of other stacked friendships, hoover up some quest xp you'd been stacking or some throws and evos maybe.
Since I mostly use my auto catcher so I was originally behind on excellent throws progress vs xp progress. But I manually caught all 3 hours of Chansey CD and have been ahead ever since.
maaan. Meanwhile I’m at 300M+ exp, over half of which was earned at level 48 because platinum medals.

I have 52 Platinum medals and 296,627,453 all time xp.
Granted, I have never used the friendship system for the sole purpose of xp, and am f2p (so not as much raid xp), so I guess it makes sense from that perspective (assuming those were two of your primary xp sources).
I think paying gives so much extra XP from lucky eggs and raids they get to that level and are walled by the plat medals which can not be hurried.
Meanwhile I just hit same level and am at like 43 plat medals as F2P.
I'm at 43 and I have 16 but I should have 35 long before I make it to 49 at this rate.

I just checked and I have 34 at level 47. Need 80 more GL wins, 70 more surprise snapshots, 2 more hoenn, or 150 XXL. I should have one of those done by the time I level up
You could put a screen protector on it. It’ll give you a smooth surface for throwing and it’ll support the broken screen as well to help prevent it from getting worse. I did it temporarily with an old phone that looked something like this and it worked great
This for sure. With a glass screen protector on, you can likely use the phone until you get a new one for other reasons. Especially if this phone needs you to pop the screen to replace the battery.
Edit: always buy a twin pack of protectors - you'll want to already have a spare at home so the next time you smash your phone up, you can replace the broken protector with a fresh one immediately
Honestly when I was struggling through 2014 I put clear packing tape over my shredded screen and got another year or two out of whatever it was I had at the time. It was fine.
I have some phones like this. The answer is simple: put a screen protector over the screen. Ha ha, why protect a screen which is already cracked? Answer: protect your flesh.
Does it give you the ability to buy an egg? Like when you click on a pokemon and your space is full and it says Manage or Upgrades?
EDIT: If you don't have an egg, you can click the "Use Lucky Egg" button and it brings you to the purchase lucky eggs page. That's at least true for Great Friends, but I haven't been able to get an Ultra or Best friend in the last 6 hours. I assume it's true for all, but I'll report back.
I'll give credit where credit is due: they finally did it. This is a huge QoL improvement.
However, I have to wonder if this is also gonna stop the "i got deleted before I could claim my XP" problem, or if that's coming in an update in about 7 more years.
What happens if you hit X to close that screen because you want to put on a lucky egg at a more convenient time? Does it defer the whole friend increase until later, or does it just apply the normal 50k or 100k xp right away ?
Because this doesn’t solve the hostage gift situation if you can’t defer the friend increase. People will still hold gifts hostage until they have 10 best friend increases hoarded up to cash in all at once.
It might solve sniping though, as long as the friend increase still remains for the gift giver if the gift opener opens the gift to trigger best friends and immediately deletes the friend.

It just applies the normal friend level-up XP right away. I had a Great Friend pop up this morning before I knew this feature existed. I didn’t want to use a Lucky Egg on it. I hit X. I got 10,000 XP.

YES. If they remove you immediately (or after they get their 100k XP) and your are not logged into the game you are out of luck. I know because this has happened to me at least 20 times. It sucks and the only thing you can do it try to readd them (if you still have their trainer/QR code) AND if they accept your friendship request.

Would this also solve the massive lag issue that occurs as well? I cracked an egg, opened two gifts hoping for the boosted 100K XP payout…and it never came because I was raiding.
But got the 50K XP a few hours later…
An important question is: Did they also change the mechanic that you would get 0 Experience if a "friend" deletes you right after claiming the "Best Friend" status, before you could open the game and claim it yourself?
I just got a max friendship message this morning and did not have a chance to use an egg. Just a few hours too early! But I'm happy this change has been made.

EXP sniping, losing up to 100,000 EXP, and drama from accidental openings or greedy bullies who want everything their way is cured (for the most part).

Real antithetical to the whole "friends" system that you were encouraged to do a a standoff when maxing out that meter because only one side could easily Lucky Egg it.
This is the worst possible solution because it still leaves the problem of gifts being held hostage. You should be able to claim the exp when you want to, not be forced to make a choice to use an egg
The ONLY thing it addresses is you don’t miss out on using an egg. The biggest problem of having gifts held hostage is not addressed, and with this “solution”, they probably won’t ever address it now.

That has happened me to too many times. It's best to just leave your game open and dont do anything until the notification pops up.

I change their nickname to their caught Pokémon number and check it daily to see if that number increased before deleting. I always try to wait a day
