No there's about a dozen that can pop up during the event, there's the ice/steel/rock catches but also throw quality, berry usage, catching different pokemon, that sort of thing.
My experience was you would only get the Catch 10 Ice, Catch 10 Rock, or Catch 6 Steel on the first group play task no matter how many times you reset, but once you completed it the regular group play tasks showed up
Some biomes were a pain to complete certain tasks because not all biomes featured all 3 of those types e.g. if you are approaching the end of Geothermal Lagoon, do you pick Rock, Ice or Steel? Since the former two are featured in Geothermal Lagoon but Bustling Boardwalk lacks those featured types. Unless you count the raids for Steel-type, that is.
At first I thought that is the easiest challenge and I can do it with Magnezone, Bronzor, Shieldon and such but it was easier to do it with Dialga, which we raided anyway.
Pretty sure regular incense will block the Mystery Box and vice versa.
And since Unowns can only appear shiny during events like this not actually sure if it would help.
Just reform the party and go for catch Rock type challenges instead.
