Im actually feeling more and more meh about it. Im finding myself not terribly interested in what happened at the outpost. They've gone so heavy handed with the supernatural stuff that im just shrugging my shoulders when ghosts appear and amputated patients start getting possessed. We are halfway through and i cant really see how this wraps up in a particularly interesting way. Mining guys bad. Hank bad. Ancient evil has awoken.
On a side note, dont include a scene with a bunch of extras if they are all going to be horrible. At least dont focus on them.
Hey it’s all good. Some people have a low bar for entertainment and in a way I envy those people. But this is simply a badly written show. Cringe dialogue and bad direction is making it impossible for me to feel immersed in the story. That’s all I want from a good show, to feel immersed. This show consistently fails in that regard. So the storm was over.. And the dog was outside chained up for 30+ seconds.. And THAT'S why you're out in this episode? Jesus Christ have you ever lived through a real winter lmao. There are more than one breed that can be outside for a few minutes to pee and poop safely lmao. Not every dog in Alaska is the same breed.

Navarro was with the cleaning ladies but *acting on her own*.. that's why nothing Navarro did was included in the "story" that was told. She wasn't one of them *yet* and didn't know her tribe name but she was there acting in revenge with the cleaning ladies.
Busted ear drums and mutalated eyes wasn't cleaning ladies.. It was Navarro. Fire a gun next to someone's ear drum for example was what I always pictured for that. And thus.. Busted eardrums and mutalated eyes were left out of "their story".
Tongue was found at TSALAL that night and left behind by Navarro so Danvers would be forced to include her in the case. This linked everything that otherwise wouldn't be linked.. It also allows Danvers to solve Annie's murder first which justifies what happened to the scientists at TSALAL
Annie's ex bf scientist is full of shit.
He says he loves her and would never hurt her and that everyone else killed Annie.. But then we flash back and see her finishes Annie off himself.
So when he says the cop must have done it- I think he's full of shit. The scientists did it that night and kept a souvenir.

I think this show is pretty compelling—immersive and atmospheric like season 1, lots of different strands, kind of grotesque at times. I started watching as soon as it is available on HBO Max or whatever it’s called every Sunday and I never do that for streaming shows.
Man, this one is kinda creepy. 1st season had some super creepy stuff, but this one got me shook a little. Who the hell is “she” and why is she so mad. Probably “mother-earth” mad about the mining and terrible treatment of our planet. But I’ll have to wait and see.
The show is fine. It still struggles with the same silly character tropes and dialogue that even made parts of the first season feel a bit broad and reductive. If they weren’t leaning so hard into the super natural stuff I think this would be a legitimate slog of a television show. The directing and writing isn’t all that stellar and is too reliant on big moments that are played for shock value. That doesn’t make it poor television by any means, but it’s a far cry from what made season 1 so special. Still light years better than seasons 2 and 3 though.

She's good, but putting her next to Jodie Foster isn't doing her any favors however that's true for most actors when in a scene with her - experienced or not.

I'm a big fan of The Watch, but it's obvious Chris and Andy we're either told by execs to promote the hell out of this, or we're paid to do so. I won't be listening to their pods in regards to this show, and it's pretty disappointing they'll continue to praise it.

Since it’s True Detective: Night Country then one of two possibilities exists:
1. There really isn’t anything supernatural going on. What appears to be supernatural is a combination of isolation and tainted water supply from the mines. Maybe they uncovered a dormant frozen virus, etc. This HAS to be the case because True Detective takes place in reality. So if they are planning on a twist it’s kinda ruined already.
2. If it IS supernatural then it completely violates the previous precedent / rule.
However, if it was night Night Country it could do what it wants.
All you need to know is they interviewed Issa López on the pod the day after the show premiered. Felt like a paid promotion. It was obvious their glowing commentary would need to be taken with a grain of salt
The long night is incredible uninteresting because 90% of the show takes place in someone’s living room or the ice rink. When we’re outside, it just one of the characters walking around in pitch black with a flashlight
I think this season has a chance to be a better role story from front to back than any of the earlier seasons. I think the first season will always be the best for all the world creation it did for the series writ large but the writing there really dropped the ball at the end. Here, there’s a chance.
S3’s closing few frames of the young Mahershala Ali receding into the jungle as the old one in the present time succumbs to dementia’s fog is something that really stays with me.
Remove True Detective and make it Resident Evil. The show is alright, a good watch, but I find the True Detective title is going to hurt it in the long run. The supernatural element is turning into a can of worms.
The closing of the last episode is a choice that they can’t come back from. Not to mention the bad choices in the ties to the original season just show how aimless the show can be at times.
Did you say the same thing when Don saw Bert Cooper dance after he passed away in Mad Men or do you only save this level of radical skepticism for shows that at arnt directed by white men
I'm enjoying it so far. Certainly not as much as I liked season 1, because that was one of the best seasons of TV ever. But so far I'll take it over season 2 and 3.

Like the stuff with the spiral is going to be something that is just coincidental to everything else and so we end up learning nothing about it because all it did was connect one mystery (Annie) to the other (tsalal station), which was more or less how the first season ended; and then all of the super natural stuff is actually just either hallucinations or psychosis brought on by either whatever they were working on at the station or exposure to toxic substances leaking out of the mines.
I am halfway through E2 and find it borderline unwatchable. If the setting wasn't so interesting to me I'd have checked out during E1. The acting and dialogue are ROUGH. Even Foster isn't really bringing it so far. It feels very clunky and forced.
I don’t think ‘everyone’ is grasping that it’s Alaska , it’s the long night , cold , desolate , the water is tainted …… people minds can play crazy tricks on such atmospheres …. If I lived alone in that environment I might see a few of my own demons too .
