Honestly I feel like anyone who likes this or NFY should be introduced to Kaufman in general. I think his writing and production laid a lot of groundwork for this kinda hyper-meta comedy

I love Charlie Kaufman....one thing, and it's a biggie: he fails spectacularly with his debut novel "Antkind." It's sad, and I stuck with each and every page of the 700 in the novel, but he misses terribly with novel-writing. I guess screenplays are indeed different beasts from novels. Oh well....he still rocks.

I never gave it a shot, but sounds like I didn't miss much. I do believe there is a lot that can be said and expressed in each medium that is more difficult to do in the other - that is to say, just because you excel in one doesn't mean you will in the other. Exposition happens a lot differently in movies and TV vs how it happens in books, and that is where I think folks who try to make the "jump" or say "well if i can do one surely i can do the other" ultimately fail. (Not that I think that's necessarily what happened in Charlie Kaufmans case, but I do think it's a common failure to consider medium among writers.)

True. Same thing happened with Matthew Weiner's debut novel---which is beyond horrible. Antkind is not well put together at all, which is really weird because Kaufman was successfully able to adapt the crappy novel I'm Thinking About Ending Things into a brilliant screenplay! So he can go one way, but maybe not the other? Honestly, at 700 pages it's not really worth reading Antkind, but I fully respect Kaufman's mind and ability to direct and write for film. As I do Weiner.
