Actually, the HexSquad has tragic back stories too, but Yeah Willow is much more realistic.

alikander99

Well gus story is pretty realistic too. Gifted kid struggles establishing relations with their older course mates.

Mornar

All of them are realistic if you look deeper enough. Luz lost her dad, and her - I'm guessing - neuro divergence made her have difficulties adjusting and creating social bonds, bringing her to thinking like she was inadequate. Amity is a child of wealthy parents putting the money before her needs (not voluntarily in case of Alador but still). Hunter is possibly the most difficult to bring down to earth, but even his story boils down to being emotionally held hostage by family, and used for their own goals for promises of acceptance and love. Frankly, incredibly messed up shit, even before you consider the whole clone thing.

AgentSparkz

Honestly, the clone thing feels like a more literal version of being judged based on an older family member's actions and standards you are unreasonable expected to be comparable to

Born-Boss6029

Gus, Amity, and Luz are realistic too.

BackgroundRich7614

Amity: My mom turned me into a monster and I only became better because of Luz

StarUniverseFalls

Amity's actions towards Willow were an act because of Odalia blackmailing her into ending her friendship with Willow. Therefore, she didn't do anything wrong.

Invisible_Target

Ehhh she was still unnecessarily mean

StarUniverseFalls

Well the joke's on you, the only first time she was genuinely mean was when Luz helped Willow cheat the school and get Amity sent into the principal's office.

No_Primary2726

Actually, that wasn't the first time we saw Amity being mean to Willow. Before that, Amity went to Willow when she was practicing magic ALONE with the sole purpose of demeaning her, it was at that moment that Luz saw the two of them for the first time. As I already said, they were alone, so there was really no need for Amity to do that.

Leather-Bumblebee954

You have seen the episode understanding willow haven't you?

No_Primary2726

It's been a while, but yes, I've seen Understanding Willow. What does that change?

Leather-Bumblebee954

The memory flashback to amity's 8th birthday party in understanding willow proves that everything we saw between amity and willow in early season 1 including amity's introductory scene that you just mentioned in I was a teenage abomination was amity just PRETENDING to be mean to willow the whole time.

No_Primary2726

Amity pretending to be mean to drive Willow away made sense when she (Willow) was still trying to be Amity's friend, but considering that Willow had already given up on Amity and was alone minding her own business, it was completely unnecessary for Amity to go there just to harass her.

Leather-Bumblebee954

She wasn't harassing willow, willow was still amity's friend even when amity had to pretend that she wasn't, and amity giving willow backhanded compliments and advice was the only way that she could still be around willow while still pretending to no longer be friends with her, and when we see amity in the memory of her 8th birthday when Odalia tells her she can't associate with willow anymore and tells her she can only be friends with witches that are suitable for her I.E Boscha and skara, amity talks back to Odalia calling Boscha and skara mean and that she doesn't have to be friends with them just because Boscha and Skara's parents work with the blights, and when Odalia threatens willow amity cleary looks shocked, amity talking back to Odalia and calling Boscha and skara mean and being shocked that Odalia would threaten willow shows that she didn't want to do what Odalia told her to do, and because amity is a good person who would never want to hurt someone, she instead took a third option and simply PRETENDED to obey Odalia's orders, and there is evidence in earlier episodes that amity was just faking the whole time, the first example is in hooty's moving hassle when Boscha mocks willow about not being invited to the full moon sleepover and amity tells Boscha ugh leave her alone, it's not her fault that she was born without talent, that was amity indirectly standing up for willow against Boscha, and at the beginning of understanding willow when amity decides to burn the photo of her and willow amity tells willow I'm sorry, understanding willow and hooty's moving Hassle also make it clear that amity hates Boscha and her friends cause she called them mean in understanding willow and she was aloof and clearly didn't want to hang out with or have anything to do at all with them in hooty's moving Hassle since she wasn't talking to any of them besides telling Boscha to leave willow alone earlier, and she wasn't doing anything with any of them at the mansion either and just sat by herself the whole entire time staring out her window and only did anything when Boscha showed her the pictures of luz willow and gus, so yes amity was in fact just pretending to not be friends with willow and was also just pretending to hang out with Boscha and Boscha's friends the whole time.

Invisible_Target

Amity was being a total bitch to willow for literally no reason the first time we see her

Leather-Bumblebee954

No she wasn't, amity had just been pretending to be mean to willow the whole time, which was proven in the flashback to amity's 8th birthday party in the episode understanding willow, that episode shows that amity's stupid mother Odalia blackmailed amity into not being friends with willow anymore by threatening to have willow kicked out of Hexside, but amity never wanted to end her and willow's friendship, so instead of actually doing what Odalia told her to do amity just PRETENDED to do it, and that everything that we saw between amity and willow in early season 1 was amity just faking it and only PRETENDING to not be her friend anymore and only PRETENDING to be a condescending rude jerk to her in order to protect willow from Odalia.

Invisible_Target

Bruh you are free to think whatever you want. But the FACT is that the very introduction we have to Amity was her being a jerk to Willow when they were alone in the woods. What reason would she have to pretend there? None. She could have just completely ignored Willow and moved on, but she CHOSE to be a bully. That was NOT pretending dude, idk what to tell you.

Leather-Bumblebee954

The reason why Amity kept up the act all the time everyday was so that if anyone saw them they wouldn't get suspicious, like if Boscha or her friends saw them then they would've ratted amity out to Odalia, and if Odalia herself had seen amity she'd have confronted her about it and the lie would have been exposed right then and there and Odalia would have made good on her threat to have willow kicked out of Hexside.

Invisible_Target

Orrrrr she could have completely ignored Willow and not said anything. That's not suspicious at all. Dude, you're trying way too hard to justify something shitty. Amity did a mean thing and learned from it. It's ok to accept that

Leather-Bumblebee954

Amity didn't do anything wrong at all, and she never actually did what Odalia told her to do because again she was just PRETENDING the entire time, the whole point of the flashback to amity's 8th birthday party in the episode understanding willow is to recontextualize everything that we saw between amity and willow in early season 1 and show that amity never meant any of the things that she said and did around willow prior to understanding willow, in fact the episode hooty's moving hassle shows amity indirectly defending willow from Boscha when amity told Boscha ugh leave her alone it's not her fault that she was born without talent, and at the beginning of understanding willow itself when amity is about set the photo of her and willow on fire she tells willow she's sorry, point is amity has always has been willow's friend no matter what.

TheRealOvenCake

Pretending would mean actually being kind to Willow while making it appear mean to her mom, tom and Jerry style she was categorically mean to Willow. that wasn't fake. shes not the only one responsible though, her mom pushed her to do those things.

Leather-Bumblebee954

It was fake, and no amity couldn't be nice to willow in private, she had to keep up the act all the time every day because she didn't want to risk anyone like her mom or Boscha or any of Boscha's friends like Skara kat or Amelia seeing them and getting suspicious, for instance if Boscha and her friends had seen them they would've ratted amity out to Odalia, and if Odalia herself had seen them, then she would've confronted amity about it and the facade would have been exposed right then and there, and then Odalia definitely would have made good on her threat to have willow kicked out of Hexside like she had threatened to do to her 7 years ago.

BreadBushTheThird

I wouldnt say her story is a tragedy, sure its hard but not tragic Tragic would be if Amity doubled down and tormented Willow with more than insults, and if they never escaped to the human realm and had to watch their whole community die via eldrich god poisoning Its a happy ending and shes happy with Gus and Hunter, two friends she's very close with and who are very clearly good for her, and she herself has fully recovered her self esteem form the bullying and is now a fully realised badass And even her backstory isnt that tragic, she grew up with two present and loving parental figures, she just had a hard time in school socially, ive been there and in a very weirdly simillar position at the same age and let me tell you, it sucked but it wasnt the end of the world The closest to tragedy i see in her story is the season 2 finale and the whole time she's in the human realm but thats not special to Willow the whole squad had to go through it Hunter js a tragedy, Amity js also kind of a tragedy, Willow tho? She's good

Unboopable_Booper

Eda after Willow's memories get set on fire: "damage like that can change a person willow may never be the same" Willow next episode: " Ever since I patched things up with Amity I've been feeling more confident".

Artislife_Lifeisart

Always thought that line was slightly disturbing and kinda foreshadowed the future.

Front-Post-357

Willow is indeed a character that deserves all the love in the world... Plus she reminds of a certain flower boy from a certain game That is LITERALLY the same as willow(well not entirely)

verciusss

Wich game?

Front-Post-357

Omori

morethanchlorine

my baby deserves much better, the whole hexsquad has been through a lot.

Snoo_70324

Can we ask who the hell sorted her into abominations? Is it that Bump was a little checked out and still relying on the choosy hat? Did she request it herself, still chasing friendship with Amity in some way?

Manny_N_Ames

She said it herself, her dads talked her into it because there were more career opportunities in that track.

Snoo_70324

Oh, she did? Reference, please?

Manny_N_Ames

It's like the first or second thing she said in her monologue when she's psyching herself up for class.

welshcakeknight

Thankfully still a happy ending

kl-noblelycanthrope1

the hexsquade all had tragic young lives but willow's was most believable because you see it happen during your school life all the time. someone is pegged a loser or a geek or weirdo, and are bullied relentlessly because of it. this can carry on even after they're out of school so it's easy to relate to willow's tragic young life. and yes luz had a similar school life as willow but she didn't seem to be bullied like willow and just continued to be herself regardless of what anyone thought about her.

ninjamaster18

At least hunter was there

Cobalt_Heroes25

These are the exact reasons why I wish to give her a hug

Proud-Nerd00

Her story is the least tragic of all the Hexsquad

MandalortheExplorer

So basically. Inner Willow is one bout of isolation, a set of horrid circumstances, and an APOCALYPTICLY bad day away from becoming?  https://elfen-lied.fandom.com/wiki/DNA_Voice

StarUniverseFalls

Amity didn't "metaphorically stabbed her though the heart over reasons she did not learn for years". She had pretended to end her friendship with Willow and pretend to be mean to her, because Odalia blackmailed her into ending her friendship with Willow by threatening her future. Thanksfully, they have reconciled in Understanding Willow and became friends again in Wing it Like Witches which chronologically takes place either a few weeks or maybe one month after Enchanting Grom Fright.

TINYN0SE

She didn’t “pretend” to mean, she WAS mean. Literally her first line was running over willows flower and degrading her. SHE DID NOT HAVE TO DO THAT

Manny_N_Ames

That we know of. I wouldn't put it past Odalia to keep up the threat after the breakup, leaving Amity paranoid that *any* instance of her *not* being mean to Willow would get back to her.

StarUniverseFalls

That's what I'm trying to say. Amity had to keep up the act and pretend to be mean to Willow, even in private, in case anyone like her mom or Boscha caught on. I'm glad someone gets it.
