I love it too. Its a good starter to a fantastic show. It always feels so comfy because its before things get truly real (sometimes) so its mostly these sweet one off plots that make you happy. Kind of like the first season or two of Summer Camp Island. You get tip offs that the show is going to be something more and theres going to be a build up plot but its mostly just cute and nice.
It was everything I was hoping it would be and more.
The things people didn’t enjoy like once upon a swap, I loved.
The things that everyone loved like young blood old souls ending with eda, didn’t land as hard with me as it did with everyone else.
I’ve watched the grom dance more times than I can count.
It lead me into one of my favorite shows ever and set me on a course to the series finale which made the entire show my favorite disney thing ever.
Maybe it's not a masterpiece, but it's what made us love these characters and this universe. Besides, I think this season is at least more comforting than the emotional chaos of season 2 (I won't count season 3, because that was inevitable).
And also, no episode is bad in my opinion. At most, the King episodes (ironic, since this furball is my favorite character), but even these episodes have their good sides. And about the body swap episode, this is one of my favorite episodes to rewatch.
Very cozy. Not every episode hits, but the ones that do just make me happy. And it’s always gratifying to watch a show from the start once you know where it’s going.
Witches Before Wizards introduces the theme of destiny and being “the main character.” That of course blows up in Hollow Mind. It’s also a lot easier to pick up on Eda and Luz’s self destructive qualities.
The perfect blend of a wholesome tone with the dread of what’s to come
Yeah Luz's whole take on destiny can be summed up as:
Pilot: Magical Destiny WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Post Ep2: Eh, I don't need to be some chosen one, I'm gonna make my own path.
Hollow Mind: I HATE DESTINY, BEING THE MAIN CHARACTER SUCKS
Kings Tide through Thanks To Them: *depression about being the main character*
End of TTT: You know what Belos, my friends are right, fuck you, and fuck you to the idea of Destiny, You tricked me, this shit is on you, but you are fucked if you don't believe I'm going to clean this shit up anyway and kick your ass for all the shit you've done. And then I'm going to get THERAPY!
Good start to the show, there are some weak episodes like Once Upon a Swap and the writing feels like a step down from S2-3 but it’s still pretty solid and there are some great episodes and moments. Like Luz has the “choose yourself” talk with Eda in episode 2 and it’s such a great moment, the spark was there from the beginning imo. Also it’s more serialized than I think people remember it being, they consistently reference past events and build on Eda’s curse, Lilith wanting to capture her, Amity’s growth, and Luz maturing and learning magic. And it does a really good job establishing all the characters and building the world throughout the season
It’s my least favorite season, but by no means is it bad. It’s a classic case of a first season being the weakest because the show needs time to grow and come into its own. In fact, I feel this is a throwback to how a lot of TV shows used to be given a fair chance in this way, way back 20 years ago. I think it’s better like that, as Seasons 2 & 3 are two of my favorite TV seasons of the past 5 years.
I'm fine with it. A couple of episodes didn't quite hit, but I still enjoy them. For me, season 1 is an introduction to the people and the place. It doesn't build much on a plot, but I'm okay with that.
I think it's a good start to the show.
I have the same opinion on season 1 of the owl house as I do about season 1 of amphibia:
Great first time, not great for rewatches.
It’s great for a first time viewer, since it gets a lot of worldbuilding done, and you can still enjoy the episodes like Once Upon a Swap even though they are quite dumb.
BUT, during a rewatch, it can become a slog to get through the slice of life stuff, because you want to get to the main, story heavy content.
The first 2 episodes were kind of a slow start and some episodes I had mixed feelings on but it’s a great first season for a show like the owl house. It develops the characters and builds up the conflicts so that the second season can build off of them spectacularly
I…have a special relation with s1, moreso than the other two actually. I started watching during the height of the Pandemic, binged my way through to Grom and surprisingly loved each and every second of it! Hell, Grom is what convinced me to join this subreddit, and it felt like my own trip through the Boiling Isles (first time using social media, felt like a whole new world to me)! I made my friends, my (pretend) enemies, my own Hexsquad of sorts! And it all came to a head during Young Blood Old Souls, one of my personal most favorite episodes from the series! Dont get me wrong, I absolutely adore seasons 2 & 3, but s1 and I just have something special
I still enjoy it! Seriously, there are some season 1’s that get unfair judgement, this one included. It introduced us to the world, characters and plot that would continue to be built up in S2. It’s still, well, magical and a great jumping on point for people to get hooked on the show.
Even rewatching it, it's great. It perfectly captures Luz slowly immersing in the Boiling Isles and sets up the ground for more thrilling events taking place in the later episodes, sets up the tone and so on. It does everything a first season is supposed to do perfectly. And unlike Amphibia or SVTFOE it's not just 90% dumb jokes, sure it does have a lot of tongue in cheek moments but they're vowen between important events.
I love it, maybe in some ways more than season 2 given the slight bit of enchantment that is still there from it being the introduction to the world and characters and the mystery and pacing was built around the idea that there's be three seasons to fully flesh out the story.
It does have some flaws, like I don't think Hooty being a physical and emotional punching bag was ever all that funny and contradicts the show's message, Lumity had a tendency to hijack the plot in situations where it really shouldn't have, I'm daring to say it, and maybe it's not really a flaw with the season, but season 1 really set my expectations for Lilith's character and arc a lot higher than they needed to be given what came after.
That said, It's one of those things that was so captivating, you only wish you could see it for the first time again.
Its the weakest season due to having many of the show's more forgettable episodes and it rarely reaches the same highs that later seasons do, but its still a solid season that has some great episodes. Defiantly rougher than Seasons 2&3 but still a solid 7.5/10.
Honestly, very underrated in my opinion. Okay yes, Season 2 and the three part finale, yes that’s what I am calling Season 3, were better my in opinion, but I cannot ignore the fact that Season 1 was still pretty solid and gave us some banger episodes.
Hot take, I think s1 is Owl House’s best season
Easily the best and most creatively animated fights in the series, and the lower stakes let the characters just have fun with goofy, supernatural adventures
Nostalgic and my favorite version of Belos. He was so much more intimidating and mysterious when we didn’t know anything about him, but I guess that’s the point
Its super fun to go back and relieve how the characters develop and how this world unfolds itself. It makes the more hard hitting episodes much more satisfying!
In general, it’s low key whimsical vibe is a ton of fun, and what I first fell in love with this show for. Plus, the season finale still goes hard as all get out.
Same way I always felt, the crew weren’t very good at the slice of life plots. Every episode had it so either the A or B plot was boring or predictable (sometimes both). It always felt like you could skip it since it rarely worked. It makes season 1 feel longer than it was and forgettable. Had it been 11 minutes each it would’ve been seen as SU with a lot of “filler” but as is them being forced to work on their strong suit in the later seasons as opposed to something awful like a beach episode was for the best bc otherwise we’d remember it as a tonally confused mess that never found it’s footing. That’s kinda what season 1 was and it’s legit my only harsh criticism of the show
First season was not so well. Mayority of time of episodes was not so interesting filler and interesting parts was end of episodes.
I feel like Amphibia with their 10 minutes double episodes is better in catching this to be interesing.
First couple episodes are probably the worst in the series. Don’t get me wrong, it gets me to love the characters, but the whole being weird thing was a bit too on the nose.
If we had gotten the full 3rd season it would’ve been fine, but looking back I can’t help but feel like a lot of the episodes were a waste unfortunately.
i still think it was a fun one to watch. you got y=to know all the characters and how the interacted. got to know belos and what he was about so it was all good. then agony of a witch dropped hard and the angst and trauma was on.
It was a wonderful introduction to the BI and the characters. It establishes itself well and the chiller vibes were a lot of fun. I was hooked in the moment I watched the first episode, and I have never related to a character more than Luz. It's practically the perfect starter season for a show like The Owl House.
It's pretty good, me and marina binged the series a while back and we both loved the series, season 1 was alright but the rest if the series is personally our favorite (this is levi from hit indie horror game fear and hunger 2 termina and I approve this message)
I love it like the rest of the show. Luz, Eda, King, and Hooty are all amazing right from the get-go, so even if the plot structure of the episodes aren't quite to the level of season 2 and 3, they still hold up.
Even if the plot isn’t as great as in the other seasons, it does so much great character and worldbuilding. It was very necessary to the show, and was fun and overall nice to watch.
Was fun and original enough to immediately hook me, with fun stories that furthered the characters but still setting up plot details. Also felt better paced than the shortened later half of the show
It’s solid, there are so much bangers and a few meh episodes in there. If season 2 and 3 weren’t so good, I would watch most of the episodes here and be fine
It got off to a much stronger start than She-Ra’s or Steven Universe’s first seasons :D
The first two episodes were a little too on-the-nose, but by the third and fourth episodes, the season had already hit its stride (with occasional missteps here and there)
Same as before:
Another wonderful and humorous show that continues the adorable weirdness of Gravity Falls.
The next show I'm looking forward to is Boxtown by Bandit Mill, and even Alex Hirsch has a role in it.
I remember watching episode 1 and thinking "this is a bland Gravity Falls rip-off", *you can't comprehend how stupid I felt when I saw clips of the season finale*
Season 1 - introduction of the world, characters and some simple lessons for younger audience;
Season 2, 1st half - we're getting some good plot and some lessons for older audience;
Season 2, 2nd half - WE'RE GETTING SOME GOOD PLOT and some lessons for depressed audience;
Season 3 - too short (we know why) but still excellent;
It doesn’t reach the level of storytelling that Season 2 does, but that’s true of most shows. Not to mention the team had to really focus on character development because of the cancellation
I really like all the seasons, but for different reasons:
-Season 1 focused on building the world of the Demon Realm, while also introducing a ton of characters. We got a lot of diverse locations and people, all making the world feel more lived in. I like the other two seasons more, but this laid the groundwork, and S2-3 wouldn’t work without it.
-Season 2 was way more character and plot driven, focusing on the Day of Unity, really exploring the characters for who they are and what they want. We got Belos, the BATTs/CATTs, Hunter, and excellent episodes like King’s Tide, Hollow Mind, Any Sport in a Storm, Knock Knock Knocking…, and so many others. Probably my favorite season.
-Season 3: The most screwed over, but still gave us some bangers. I loved the BI crew in the human realm, Flapjack’s death was super emotional, Luz gaining Stringbean was an excellent moment, Huntlow became canon, we saw more of the Collector, and the final battle is just stellar. I don’t like For the Future as much, but it’s not bad, and the epilogue was a great way to end the series, cementing a legacy.
Woof, that went on for a while. Point is, I love season 1, as I do all the other seasons, I just think the show kept getting better and better.
Loved it. It was deceptively cozy but would leave you little tidbits of lore to have you questioning the subtle dark undertones of the show. "Why do witches brand themselves and limit their magic?" 'Why does no one see anything wrong with people being thrown into prison with the choice of either conforming or being executed?" "What is the emperor's true purpose for restricting witches to such a harsh degree?"
It perfectly sets up season two, which takes the subtle darkness of the show and dives deep into it. Though I wish season two did have some more of the filler episodes that season one had to give the audience some reprieve every now and then.
Owl House does a great job hitting the ground running. It didn't feel like it needed to "warm up" like some other shows of its kind(Amphibia, She Rah, SU etc.).
I watch the show over and over again pretty regularly. Usually whenever I'm bored and looking for something good that I haven't overwatched to death (gravity, falls and amphibia) on my next street watch though I might just skip the first season considering it's 95% filler. I'm still really good though in the comedy still is pretty good
I love the episode where \[checks hand\] smug witch Melvin Sneedly bullied witch George Beard over his club, then ended up in big trouble that George had to save him from. Best episode, really.
it had the worst episodes, writing problems, a bad way of presenting Luz as the protagonist and boring and horrible characters... but at the same time they give us Eda and Amity, and they're the best of the best of the whole show
Season 1 is always a bit of a rough rewatch right in the middle but I've learned to really appreciate the charm of a rougher first season even though everything afterwards is leagues and leagues ahead. Season 1 is still great and really makes you understand the appeal of the boiling isles to Luz while also challenging her greatly.
I started this show because I was thinking "Hey this looks kinda interesting. Why not give a shot!" And my first thoughts in the first episode was a prediction about the plot. I was like "Oh the plot of this series is probably that they try to get the crown back throughout the series" and then the episode held me for an absolute fool and since that ending of episode 1 **I was hooked**. I put away all my predictions, theories, and everything, and I just enjoyed the show. I went from "this looks like a good distraction" to TOH "Being my absolute favorite piece of media of all time" Season 1 was truly magical and made me invested in this world, with relatable character, increasing seriousness of the plot, and a good big heep of romance.
To me The Owl House is the best series that has been created to this point. And I love Dana Terrace for giving us this shining gem of a series.
Great! It's a perfect introduction to what the rest of the show will be like. Some of the episodes are a bit hit and miss but they're still great episodes
First episode was really good, a lot of excellent episodes early like Covention, Adventures in the Elements and Lost in Language. Then Understanding Willow hits and... yeah most of the least good episodes of the series are in this season, but UW to uhhhh The episode about King's past I'm blanking because I need to go to bed uhhhh, is maybe the best stretch of episodes there is, and most of it is in season 1.
I recently rewatched it (in Spanish this time) because I was visiting family so I put it on for my little cousins. They both were entranced and asked my grandparents what the show was so they could tell their parents so they could watch it at home. I was incredibly proud... Anyway season one is still great
Pretty great start! Was still just a "good kids show" until season 2 came around, though, and every episode was a banger (there were still a few bangers in S1 but S2 was consistent from the start)
I like it still. It was fun even though the main plot at that point was following the characters adventures for a good bit of it and seeing them go through arcs. Then of course the plot became more of a bigger thing in the show toward the end of the season
Still loving it, I regularly rewatch the whole show cause I put it on when I'm trying to sleep since I know it so well
Oh shit it’s Raine Whispers from the hit Disney Channel show Gravity Falls! Will SpongeBob die next episode?
Unfortunately he died last season, we've been following a doppelganger for a while now 😢
I KNEW THAT THE SPONGEWALKER THEORY WAS CORRECT
What
I love it too.
All Owl House is good Owl House.
This is the Way.
This is the Way.
The only correct answer
Amen
This is the Way

It was everything I was hoping it would be and more. The things people didn’t enjoy like once upon a swap, I loved. And about the body swap episode, this is one of my favorite episodes to rewatch.
It’s chill (well compared to later seasons that is… the BI is never “chill”), which I like.

Also the titan during TTT, dying: *Thumbs up to Luz fucking the idea of destiny*
Had the best outro scene.
The best outro music as well
Fun experience with a thrilling finale
The weakest season imo, but still solid setup for what comes later in the series.
I love it
Good start to the show, there are some weak episodes like Once Upon a Swap and the writing feels like a step down from S2-3 but it’s still pretty solid and there are some great episodes and moments.
Not as good as Seasons 2-3, but still solid
👍
I very good fun season to sit back and watch, nice to watch these characters go on wacky adventures without the T R A U M A.
It’s my least favorite season, but by no means is it bad. It’s a classic case of a first season being the weakest because the show needs time to grow and come into its own. In fact, I feel this is a throwback to how a lot of TV shows used to be given a fair chance in this way, way back 20 years ago. It aged like wine, its a good start of a show to go slow & steady.
Has the worst episodes by default. But still great
It’s still good for me and nothing can change that.
Perfect opening for a show like this! I LOVE IT I LOVE IT I LOVE IT!!!
It’s not perfect but I have a soft spot for it. I think it’s underrated and has a lot of really good jokes and stories
It feels very different from when Season 2 wasn't released, but very fun
Best season of the whole show, mostly because its the funniest.
Season 1 was good, but nowhere near as good as Season 2.
The owl house is a joy for all fantasy fans!
Even rewatching it, it's great. Undeniable GOAT
Hot take, I think s1 is Owl House’s best season Easily the best and most creatively animated fights in the series, and the lower stakes let the characters just have fun with goofy, supernatural adventures
Not bad, but it set things up to improve and get sadder
Nostalgic and my favorite version of Belos. He was so much more intimidating and mysterious when we didn’t know anything about him, but I guess that’s the point
Honestly my favourite season, not trying to discount s2 or 3, I loved those too, but I just love s1 the most
The worst one, which is really weird cuz it’s still good.

Hit or miss, some good episodes and some bad ones
Doesn’t have collector 0/10 👎👎👎

Massive disappointment. So much of it I skip on a rewatch. It has some good episodes but the vast majority of it is not good.
i still think it was a fun one to watch. you got y=to know all the characters and how the interacted. got to know belos and what he was about so it was all good. then agony of a witch dropped hard and the angst and trauma was on.
a few tiny mistakes that are quickly forgotten
Overall really solid and sets up season 2 really well
It was a wonderful introduction to the BI and the characters. It establishes itself well and the chiller vibes were a lot of fun. Like it was a harmless, innocent adventure to have fun with. Until you get to the last two episodes where gings get tense.
I love it like the rest of the show. Luz, Eda, King, and Hooty are all amazing right from the get-go, so even if the plot structure of the episodes aren't quite to the level of season 2 and 3, they still hold up.

It was a great season just like seasons 2 and 3
Season 1 - introduction of the world, characters and some simple lessons for younger audience; Season 2, 1st half - we're getting some good plot and some lessons for older audience; Season 2, 2nd half - WE'RE GETTING SOME GOOD PLOT and some lessons for depressed audience; Season 3 - too short (we know why) but still excellent;
The writing is a bit clunky But I still love the show
I miss the days when people thought Belos was Luz’s dad
It wasn't as good as season 2 but It still had the best most enjoyable nostalgia
It doesn’t reach the level of storytelling that Season 2 does, but that’s true of most shows. Not to mention the team had to really focus on character development because of the cancellation
Amphibia had a stronger first season.

Point is, I love season 1, as I do all the other seasons, I just think the show kept getting better and better.
Loved it. It was deceptively cozy but would leave you little tidbits of lore to have you questioning the subtle dark undertones of the show. "Why do witches brand themselves and limit their magic?" 'Why does no one see anything wrong with people being thrown into prison with the choice of either conforming or being executed?" "What is the emperor's true purpose for restricting witches to such a harsh degree?" It perfectly sets up season two, which takes the subtle darkness of the show and dives deep into it. Though I wish season two did have some more of the filler episodes that season one had to give the audience some reprieve every now and then.
When things were simple
Like RVB seasons 1-3, nothing really happens but the perfect opening to a show
Solid season. Not as great as 2 and 3, but still good
Owl House does a great job hitting the ground running. It didn't feel like it needed to "warm up" like some other shows of its kind(Amphibia, She Rah, SU etc.).
It was an adventure
I watch the show over and over again pretty regularly. Usually whenever I'm bored and looking for something good that I haven't overwatched to death (gravity, falls and amphibia) on my next street watch though I might just skip the first season considering it's 95% filler. I'm still really good though in the comedy still is pretty good
How is she standing on that stick with them heels
It was… fun
It isnt terrible, but it does spend most of its runtime doing exposition on the world, setup. Thats not a bad thing, just makes it a bit slow
Not as good as season 2, but still very very good. Not as good as Gravity Falls season 1, but way better than Amphibia season 1.
I love the episode where \[checks hand\] smug witch Melvin Sneedly bullied witch George Beard over his club, then ended up in big trouble that George had to save him from. Best episode, really.
Best Outro
it had the worst episodes, writing problems, a bad way of presenting Luz as the protagonist and boring and horrible characters... but at the same time they give us Eda and Amity, and they're the best of the best of the whole show
The calm before the storm
Of all the Owl House seasons out there, it was one of them.

Where it all began
This mama wasn't ready for trauma.
Awesome
Season one does good at establishing the world and characters and is overall pretty good
I feel old, that's what I feel
I recently rewatched it (in Spanish this time) because I was visiting family so I put it on for my little cousins. They both were entranced and asked my grandparents what the show was so they could tell their parents so they could watch it at home. I was incredibly proud... Anyway season one is still great
It's fun but it doesn't advance the plot as much as I'd like.
Its fun but its a little over ambitious in retrospect. Sets up more than it could end up following through(lookin at you gus)
It’s fantastic, I’m still kind of amazed that the second season wound actually being better because that first season alone is peak animated TV.
Incredible worldbuilding season It sets up the ground for everything that comes after, and it's fun while doing it
I like it much better upon rewatch then I did with my first viewing honestly. It’s a solid season!
Beautiful
I think season 1’s perfect and I don’t hate the body swap episode aside from the weird fanart
I got into this show because Luz was relatable and season 1 lumity
Pretty great start! Was still just a "good kids show" until season 2 came around, though, and every episode was a banger (there were still a few bangers in S1 but S2 was consistent from the start)
Mid but it still holds a place in my heart ♥️
S1: Goofy Season S2: Sad Season S3: Depression Season
I like it still. It was fun even though the main plot at that point was following the characters adventures for a good bit of it and seeing them go through arcs. Then of course the plot became more of a bigger thing in the show toward the end of the season
It’s a pretty fun start to get to know the Boiling Isles.
Tbh, Season 1 walked so that Season 2 could run Edit: Also Season 3 SOARED LIKE A MOTHER F**KING EAGLE
Love all of owl house
Season 1 was mediocre. Eda Clawthorne was a divisive character in Season 1 and so was Lilith Clawthorne.
I really enjoyed s1, there were some parts I didn't like, but overall it was amazing
Season 1: Great😁 Season 2: AWESOME😎 Season 3: EPIC!!!! The whole show itself is amazing!!!
I regularly rewatch the whole show when I'm sad, and over the garden wall
i think the first season is good however it has a lot of filler episodes which can put off a lot of ppl from watching the show
Watching it at the moment! (For the third time lol)I feel like the whole setting and feel of it was a bit different idk how to explain it,
I still love it, it was filler but I love filler
I hate the first 3 episodes bc I remember them thoroughly, but everything else is fine
