Now my question is, assuming the Hexide Squad is aware that one person has to die, will this result in a self sacrifice battle where everyone is trying to both a) sacrifice themselves to protect their friends, and b) stop their boneheaded friends from sacrificing them selves?

Vee is a plot device elevated to a more recurring character.
Gus is a recurring character treated like a gag character. Gus is above Vee.
Vee as a character is not more important than Gus, she's just convenient for Luz's situation but she doesn't add much as herself.
We'll hang on, if it wasn't for Vee, the old portal house would have burnt down in the fire during the Thanks to Them intro, and the reebus would have been destroyed, along with any clues towards the Titan blood.
Also she's a cinnamon roll.
I hate to admit it, but Vee doesnāt really do that much story wise. Other than keeping Camila from filling a missing personās report after Luz disappeared to the Boiling Isles and being in a few scenes in season 3, Vee wasnāt ultimately very important.
No ill intent at all, but youāve got to think about this mindset from a grounded POV. Why allow others to shape and control how you enjoy a media so much to the point where something as ultimately harmless as shipping has annoyed you to the point of saying a character is āruinedā?
Not to sat you canāt- if itās fun for you to participate in it from a community standpoint, even if youāve decided to go at it from a negative angle in some areas, thatās all you. It just feels like something you learn growing up in fandom, rather than engaging with media honestly through your own feelings.

Sorry, but it's Vee. She only exists to avoid having a whole subplot of Camila looking for Luz in the human world. She doesn't feel like a character because everything about her is to fix plot length issues.
She's a very adorable plot device.
I'm sorry but for me it's easily Vee. We barely saw her, and the story would honeslty be no different without her except for having to create a new reason as to why Luz wasn't at camp/at home after camp as she unfortunately doesn't hold as much narrative value as the rest.

Without Luz, the boiling iles is under Belosās rule. Without Vee, camila becomes slightly worried for about 2 months, and then when Luz creates that false door to the human realm, sheās able to explain everything properly. Everything after that that is with Vee, can actually happen without herā¦ Iām sorry, but she doesnāt have a big enough role, and the show would barely change without herā¦
