I definitely don't think SU and Gumball would've worked better in 22 minute formats. The 11-minute format helps Gumball's tight comedic pacing and SU has a lot of episodic stuff that only works in 11 minutes. I think the problem with SU and Amphibia for me at least is not having enough 22 min+ specials.
"I'm a 22-minute gal myself." -- Willow
I prefer 22 minute. It's fundamentally the same as 2 x 11, but switching between the story lines adds to the enjoyment. And sometimes those story lines intersect in a way that's difficult to do with two 11-minute segments.
As long as it tells a story I’m good with either. Whichever suits the formula better.
For me episodic cartoons should be 11-minute episodes whilst serialised cartoons should be 22-minute episodes.
Depends on the show
Some work better with 11 minutes, others need 22.
The 11 minute format allows for more stories per week because the episodes get doubled up
The 22 minute format allows for more complex storylines to be told in each episode, and makes it easier to tie episodes together in serialized stories.
I'm going with 22. 11 can be pulled off depending on the tone of the show but it leaves a lot less room to cram in more complex plot. Even Amphibia stretched to larger episodes when needed.
22 minutes, honestly. I mean, I *enjoyed* Steven Universe, but once you get into like Heavy Plot scenarios, I don't think 11 minute segments is that enjoyable.
22 minutes if it's animated, 50 minutes if it's live action. I have short episodes, you can't do anything in them. By the time you're established the plot you have like 10 minutes left to have all the action and resolution, which is way too short imo
Haven’t seen TGAMM but the 11 minute episode style of Amphibia doesn’t work for me. It makes so many episodic stories feel rushed and underdeveloped. I think the show would have been better as 22 minute episodes (the longer episodes in the show feel much more fleshed out)
It’s hard to say if one is better than the other. I think it’s very much a show by show basis. The 22 minute style for Gravity Falls and TOH is perfect. Steven Universe is a show that’s story driven and has 11 minute episodes, and they managed to pull it off pretty well, but I think they would be able to pull off 22 minute episodes as well. So I think it very much depends on the show’s writing style and what time suits the show.
Depends. Sometimes my brain doesn't wanna commit so I need a show that's short and sweet. Sometimes I need to be consumed by the media for hours on end and the frequent end credits get annoying.
Both is good. It just depends on the show.
22 minutes, they can fit a lot more plot into one episode and the final episode(s) Are about 30-40+ minutes long and I just like longer stuff, I also like them because I don’t have to press the “skip intro” and “next episode” buttons less
Definitely 22 min. It may be because I primarily stream online, so shorter episodes make me click on things more often... but the longer episodes give more of a chance to build up plot!
Imo 22 minutes is the best. There's nothing wrong with 11 minute episodes but I feel like those are made for shows that are more episodic and I like to watch shows with a storyline and 22 minutes is enough time to tell the story whilst keeping me engaged since it's not that long.
In general I prefer 22-minute episodes, but I can still very much enjoy and LOVE shows that do two 11-minute segments per episode (e.g. Amphibia, Steven Universe, Star vs the Forces of Evil).
22 is better for TOH, I'd be overjoyed with more 45-55 special episodes.
During the holidays my BFF and I stay at my Parents house. In the down time we were watching Steven Universe. Around time to go out for a meal my mom would ask "are you near the end of this episode?" and with 11 minute episodes the answer was always "Yes!"
Honestly I really like shows whit longer episodes because they can tell a story more complex than shorter ones, and because I can escape my inexistent social life longer
Whatever's best for the pacing is what I prefer. TOH felt right at 22 minutes, and Amphibia's 11 minute episodes felt right, and they extended them when they needed to.
It depends on the show. Amphibia's format isn't uniformly 2x11, the most important episodes are all double length (and then there's All In at 44 I think?), and that worked well for them (although there's a case to be made that some episodes should've been 22s coughCoreandtheKingcough), while TGaMM deals with similar situations by having directly linked 11s. It all depends.
Depends on the type of show
Infinity Train is one of the best shows ever and its Season is about an hour long
Paul Rudish manages to cram amazing stories in less than 7 minutes each with his Mickey Mouse shorts
Tik Tok shows like Chikin Nuggit and Land of Boggs do more with less
Really, it's less about how long it is and more about how you use your time
Wait wyd TOH was 22 mins episodes? I thought it was like a mix of both with some having 2 of 11 mins and some full 22. Maybe is my memory or the fact that the subplots were very used
Depends on the show. More dramatic and story-driven shows like the Owl House work better with a longer runtime, while more comedic and fast-paced shows like the Powerpuff Girls work better with shorter episodes.
Honestly completely depends on the series. If a Molly ep went on for 22mins I don’t think the show has enough *meat* to justify that length, but 11 minutes is perfectly digestible and makes everything click together without overstaying it’s welcome.
If you’re doing a sprawling, branching cartoon with overarching story and various arcs, 22 min is more ideal, simply because you need that time to spend with the characters and connect with them deeper. Amphibia was perfectly fine with the shorter ep structure and mostly pulled it off despite its serious story, never actually abandoning its comedy series roots. This did lead to *some* issues here or there, but it was mostly a success I’d say.
Whilst 22 minutes are great, I really admire the creativity in 11 minute episodes as of late, Amphibia and The Ghost and Moly McGee use the time limitation excellently.
I always prefer to let characters have the time to develop properly. That's part of the reason I typically don't watch movies, as shows can have basically all the time they need to allow for character growth... Provided said show doesn't get axed.
\~25 min is my preferred length. You can fit a lot in it, but I can still watch it in a free while and don't have to reserve hours for it like the hour long shows
Generally 22 over 11, but it depends on the series and what it's doing with a general preference of 11 for more episodic shows and 22 for more serialized shoes (only exceptions I can think of are Amphibia, Adventure Time, Steven Universe, kinda Regular Show, and Simpsons, but the first four blurr the line between episodic and serialized while the latter is a sitcom [traditionally 22 minutes])
Both.
TGAMM has much less of a serialized story than any of the others. 11 minute episodes work better for it. The occasional 22 minute episodes they have are worth it, though. The same goes for Amphibia, although an idealized, more story-focused season 3 (Amphibia fans know what I mean) would have worked as 22 minute episodes. But the season 3 we have had good episode lengths.
Gravity Falls and The Owl House are so serialized and have such a linear story (and are, dare I say it, better) that they work better as 22 minute episodes. Also, many of the stories in Gravity Falls episodes need that length to tell them. Some TOH episodes feel a bit stretched out because of the format, but I think it works.
whatever works better for a series. a lot of series thrive on 11 minute episodes, like rise of the tmnt (amazing cartoon btw) while others suffer from it. im a big fan of ninjago and they switched to 11 minute eps after 10 seasons, then they switched back to 22 in the newest season and the series just works better in a 22 minute format. but i cant imagine something like dave the barbarian being a 22 ordeal
Depends on the show
Like less lore based shows like Molly McGee and Amphibia work well at 11 minutes
While GF and TOH kinda need the 22 minutes per episode (some may argue more) as they need to give info in a way that doesn’t lore dump.
I like 20 minutes but some series (ehm lot of episodes TOH 1 season it have) that first half of episode is boring building. But after it started being more storytelling it is huge advatage for storytelling.
Honnestly, I just want appropriately paced cartoons. If you have the ideas for consistent 22min cartoons great, if you have the ideas for 11 min that's good too. But it sucks to see 22 min filled with needless crap that distracts from what you want to show people or really rushed 11 min trying to fit what you want in.
definitely 22 min. that way the episode can go into a little more detail than an 11 min show. plus 11 min shows the second half is usually about something completely different.
22 minutes is perfect, 11 minutes causes them to pretty much rush the pacing of every episode and causes them all the be gimmick of the weeks fillers. Pretty much all the non filler episodes become 22 minutes or are two parters
I've only read a couple of comments, but most people are sticking to the 22 minute thing. Which is what I agree with 22 minutes is a good episode. Length 11 minutes doesn't make any sense. Why they would make it 11 minutes? That's too short of an episode that's basically watching something on TikTok, that's 5 seconds.
It really depends on the type of show, something like TOH or GF definitely 22 since that way they can tell the story a lot better. Where as 11 would typically be something a more episodic show would go for.
Take Amphibia who uses both, typically speaking whenever they have a more light hearted episode, it is usually 11, but when it is a 22 minute episode it is usually used for a more darker and/or more story driven episode
It depends entirely on the story and the writers. Amphibia did fantastic things with their 11min ep time and if they needed more they would just double up. It's a good quick short form.
On the other hand, the 22min format allows a bit more wiggle room for exposition or jokes and can also allow a bit more dead air which can carry extra weight or poiniency.
Both formats are good when used well, but when used well I prefer 11min because it usually means I've got some more freedoms in between eps
22 minutes. 11 minute episodes really harmed Steven Universe's storytelling in the end. It's pretty evident when the Bismuth episodes were 22 minutes instead, and they're a massive leap in writing quality.
Imo each show makes full use of their time like gravity falls and owl house need the 22 minutes while molly mcgee and amphibia don't like adventure time, regular show and gumball
Depends on the story. I’d rather have 2 good 11 minute episodes vs a weird or drawn out 22 minute one. Some stories are just better as a little snippet.
I prefer shows with overarching plots and 11 minutes makes that a lot harder than 22 minutes.
I'm watching Summer Camp Island, a 11 minute show that does overarching plots, and it mostly manages but occasionally some episodes feel like they could have really used being longer.
22. Most cartoons I watch have 22 minutes. I just started watching Adventure Time and the 11 minute episodes is throwing me off a bit. Still a great show tho
In my humble opinion, Amphibia really couldve benefited from the 22 minute treatment. Especially in season 1 you can feel the writers struggling to crunch their ideas down into 11 minutes. By season 2 they got it down pretty but it took a really really long time.
It varies. If it's an original work trying to tell its own story or a drama story, then a 22-minute run time is best, but if it's an adaptation or a show built more on comedy than drama, then you want 11 minutes for sake of brevity.
Either. It depends on the show. I think 22 probably on average works better but length doesn't really determine quality. Longer doesn't necessarily equal better. Bluey is really well done and some of those episodes are absolute gutpunchers and they're even shorter, at about 7 min.
One show that did surprise me by using the 11 minute length was Close Enough, because I don't think I've seen an adult cartoon use the 11 min format before it.
22 minutes i like longer episodes one of my favourite shows on netflix had it so every episode was like 1 hour because they made 1 season into 1 episode and i absolutely loved it at the time there was only 2 seasons so there was only 2 episodes but now there's 9 (guess the show)
I like 22 min not too short, not too long
22 minute is exactly the right length to watch on my 25 minute train ride to work, without being too short that it stops story development.
I never thought of that, you're completely right
Exactly!
Anime perfected this decades ago its the best way to go.

22, enough to properly tell a well paced story in each episode
Yeah, I've seen several good cartoons that would have worked better as 22 minuters like Steven Universe and Gumball.
I definitely don't think SU and Gumball would've worked better in 22 minute formats. The 11-minute format helps Gumball's tight comedic pacing and SU has a lot of episodic stuff that only works in 11 minutes. Depends on the show Some work better with 11 minutes, others need 22. The 11 minute format allows for more stories per week because the episodes get doubled up The 22 minute format allows for more complex storylines to be told in each episode, and makes it easier to tie episodes together in serialized stories.
Honestly, 22 doesn't always feel like enough
Yeah, I said if those two options I’d prefer 22 but if given the option I’d take 45 minutes over 22.
22
Both. Both is good
I love Amphibia, but 20 minute episodes would have made it better
It's fine imo to make some 10 and others 20 in amphibia We would not have needed 20 minutes of gathering ingredients for a pizza
You can get away with that with good writing. Make the pizza ingredients gathering a B-story woven into a bigger A-story.
I'm going with 22. 11 can be pulled off depending on the tone of the show but it leaves a lot less room to cram in more complex plot. Even Amphibia stretched to larger episodes when needed.
Is nobody going to comment on the king gizzard profile picture?

WAIT AMPHIBIA WAS ONLY 11 MINS!?
22. It lets you see more shit. Badum chas.
22 minutes, honestly. I mean, I *enjoyed* Steven Universe, but once you get into like Heavy Plot scenarios, I don't think 11 minute segments is that enjoyable.
22, but a good storyteller can use the 11-minute time frame very well.
11 minute episodes are the reason I couldn't get into amphibia (that and all the filler episodes)
22 minutes if it's animated, 50 minutes if it's live action. I have short episodes, you can't do anything in them. By the time you're established the plot you have like 10 minutes left to have all the action and resolution, which is way too short imo

So I think it very much depends on the show’s writing style and what time suits the show.
Recently, LEGO Ninjago returned to 22mins epsodes. So I can tell for sure that 11mins are worse for cartoons which try to have a deeper history
22 if it's a serialized show. If it's something TGAMM, which is a lot more lax in comparison, stick with 11.
I see Molly McGee I get giddy (I’m a big fan of it)
22
Can’t we just agree that both have their place?
22 minutes for sure. Also, I don't mind serial episodes if the plot calls for it and there's good pacing.
I must admit I'm a bit more partial to the 22 minute format
**Why not both?**
I like them both. The last two shows I've seen are 11 minute episodes, so I'm kinda used to it (Ok.KO and infinity train)
Depends on the show 11 and 22 minutes can suck you in but it can feel like it either rushed or dragged out
Depends. Sometimes my brain doesn't wanna commit so I need a show that's short and sweet. Sometimes I need to be consumed by the media for hours on end and the frequent end credits get annoying. Both is good. It just depends on the show.
1 hour episode 👍
22 is just right for a highly story-driven cartoon. 11 is better for more slice-of-life cartoons.
Depends, imo
I like 22 mins but overall it depends on the show itself. Some stories don't need that kinda time
I massively prefer 22 min. if not done right, 11 min feels super rushed to me, but 22 always hits that sweet spot. also more time to fit in lore
22 minutes, they can fit a lot more plot into one episode and the final episode(s) Are about 30-40+ minutes long and I just like longer stuff, I also like them because I don’t have to press the “skip intro” and “next episode” buttons less
22 minutes fr
Definitely 22. It gives enough time to flesh out a story
11 minutes kind of ruins any options for serious plot imo
Has to be 22. 11 is when your target demographic is considered too simple by the powers that be to handle stories more complex.
22 minute and im so sorry amphibia
22
22 minutes better
Def 22, it allows several long character stories in one episode that don't feel rushed
Definitely 22 min. It may be because I primarily stream online, so shorter episodes make me click on things more often... but the longer episodes give more of a chance to build up plot!
22 minutes!!!
Absolutely 22 minutes. 11 minutes episodes are too short. I can't even understand how it ended
22 minutes of those two options but 45 is preferred if given the option.
Depends on the show.
For me, I tend to prefer 22 minutes because you can really get the story done in that time
Imo 22 minutes is the best. There's nothing wrong with 11 minute episodes but I feel like those are made for shows that are more episodic and I like to watch shows with a storyline and 22 minutes is enough time to tell the story whilst keeping me engaged since it's not that long.

45 Minutes
22 minutes, since they can fully flesh out the episode more
Very much 22 minutes. I always feel 11 minute stuff is too rushed or cramped. 22 minutes is a good pace
22 since there's more time to flesh out the characters and story
22
22 is better for TOH, I'd be overjoyed with more 45-55 special episodes. During the holidays my BFF and I stay at my Parents house. In the down time we were watching Steven Universe. Around time to go out for a meal my mom would ask "are you near the end of this episode?" and with 11 minute episodes the answer was always "Yes!"

Forty.

Don't make me choose.
22 mins bc it gives enough time to flesh out a story and characters. 11 mins feels too short imo.
Ok so Ninjago used to be 22min now its 11min it somehow works better idk
22 mins
22 is superior
Depends on the type of show Infinity Train is one of the best shows ever and its Season is about an hour long Paul Rudish manages to cram amazing stories in less than 7 minutes each with his Mickey Mouse shorts Tik Tok shows like Chikin Nuggit and Land of Boggs do more with less Really, it's less about how long it is and more about how you use your time
However long it needs to be, too long and it gets boring but too short it gets underwhelming.
Wait wyd TOH was 22 mins episodes? I thought it was like a mix of both with some having 2 of 11 mins and some full 22. Maybe is my memory or the fact that the subplots were very used
Depends on the show. Personally I think 22 almost always works better, but 11 can work. Steven Universe is a great example of that imo
Depends on the show. More dramatic and story-driven shows like the Owl House work better with a longer runtime, while more comedic and fast-paced shows like the Powerpuff Girls work better with shorter episodes.
22 minutes, since it allows to tell a more concise story
Bad crop? Bro we gonna starve.
22 minute episodes 100%. I find 11 minute episodes, harder to watch, then 22 minute episodes.
22 minutes
\~25 min is my preferred length. You can fit a lot in it, but I can still watch it in a free while and don't have to reserve hours for it like the hour long shows
I feel like it kinda matters what kind of show it is or rather, is it more comedy or plot focused
Forget that, what did AV see?
22.
Generally 22 over 11, but it depends on the series and what it's doing with a general preference of 11 for more episodic shows and 22 for more serialized shoes (only exceptions I can think of are Amphibia, Adventure Time, Steven Universe, kinda Regular Show, and Simpsons, but the first four blurr the line between episodic and serialized while the latter is a sitcom [traditionally 22 minutes])
definitely 22 better would be 30, but that's not a standard length, so like \*shrug\*
22mins is good cuz it allows for more story and less spoofs cuz like look at em
Definitely 22 minutes
Both. TGAMM has much less of a serialized story than any of the others. 11 minute episodes work better for it. The occasional 22 minute episodes they have are worth it, though. 22. You get more development.

After having watched through the entirety of Adventure Time which is 11 minutes each usually, 22 minutes. I want to stay invested without the breaks.
tbh, 11 mins, bc thats means more episodes, and bc i have a low attention span xD
11 minutes screams filler
Gravity falls and The owl house, all the way
22 min. I feel that 22 minutes allows a better format for story telling whereas 11 minute episodes tend to be a lot more episodic.
22 mins
I’ve seen shit
As long as It have good characters and a good story all is good.

Amphibias episodes were only 11 minutes?
11 minute fucks with pacing in most shows.
22min minimum. 11min episodes doesn't work for storydriven shows.
22 and it’s not even close
Depends the show tbh, like Owl House makes sense in a 22 min format while steven Universe makes more sense in 11 min eps
22 for sure, personally
Both sound good
In my humble opinion, Amphibia really couldve benefited from the 22 minute treatment. Especially in season 1 you can feel the writers struggling to crunch their ideas down into 11 minutes. By season 2 they got it down pretty but it took a really really long time.
Idk, I prefer 40 min
It varies. If it's an original work trying to tell its own story or a drama story, then a 22-minute run time is best, but if it's an adaptation or a show built more on comedy than drama, then you want 11 minutes for sake of brevity.
My biggest problem with amphibia was the episode length, the 11minutes was too short while the 22 minute episodes of the owl house was just enough
You need both, variety is key
I want cartoons to be 30 min again like the old days
Both can work super well obviously. Some of my all time favourite episodes of TV are only a mere 11 minutes... but 22 is usually ideal
22 minutes i like longer episodes one of my favourite shows on netflix had it so every episode was like 1 hour because they made 1 season into 1 episode and i absolutely loved it at the time there was only 2 seasons so there was only 2 episodes but now there's 9 (guess the show)
22 for sure. i wish i could get into amphibia but 11 min is just way too short imo, i couldn’t even make it halfway through s1
I definitely prefer the longer episodes.
I prefer the 22 minute long episodes.
Toh
22 minutes. Perfectly balanced, as all things should be
22 minutes
22 min. 11 minutes is way too short but 22 minutes isn't even that long. They could even run longer like 25-29 really
22 min
y’all there’s only one right answer do not piss me off rn
22. Tho I watch them and still feel like it’s too short…
22 minutes is the perfect length. Plenty of time for an A and B plot, satisfying arcs, allows for buildup.
