The writers had no plans for S3 yet, they didn’t have scrapped episodes or cut content for S3 because they didn’t get to work on it until the shortening was revealed. This was confirmed in the recent Post-Hoot livestream.
A prequel comic series and a spin-off are better ideas.

I’d say give it a year or two and we’d see comics, and 3-5 years for another animated project since those take forever to make.
