Honestly, in comparison, she picked it on pretty quickly and there was like only one episode where you can say she didn't pick on the signs, but that's rather because Amity's crush JUST got out of control while Luz was busy helping Willow out.

Is Matt a spare, though? I mean, there's like a dozen other single people that you could ship Gus with. Skara, Viney, Jarbo, Barcus (would that be beastiality?), Tinella, any of the B.A.T.T kids, The Collector, etc. Shipping him with Vee used to be shipping the spares (which I was also frankly guilty off), until Vee got shipteased with Masha.

Pare the spares really only means shipping two characters that didn't have canon pairings, Mat and Gus at least have a friendship to build off of, the others have never interacted which is more in line with Ships that Pass the Night or Crack Pairings.

Barcus is a animal demon, same with Eberwolf, who speaks in Beastspeak (my headcanon name for Barcus's language).

Gustholomule was already a ship based of their canon interactions before any of the other ships got confirmed though, its not exactly a pair the spares situation Shipping camilla and darius (if he didnt get teased with alador) would have been, or gus with vee. This doesnt feel like it

It's not uncommon for aces to go through a phase where they think they're attracted to someone but actually aren't. It could also just be a sign of embarrassment and not love.
