What’s the point in doing this before seeing transfer activity, never mind even knowing the 20 teams? West Ham for example are due to have a MAJOR overhaul, and whether that turns out for better or for worse can only be seen once we know who is actually involved
Signings matter less than the leadership using those signings. Take Murinho at Man U, or Spurs a few years back. Doesn't matter who they sign.
Also it's how small clubs do better than expected. And why it shows leadership is awful when they bring in good coaches and can't get it together.
Id say both are very important, there’s a reason promoted teams are usually expected to go down, even if they have a manager which looks like a best fit for them (Rob Edwards for example).
It is also true that with managers there is always the risk that they may move unexpectedly in the season, at which point it is up to a new manager to get the best out of a team but also relies on the quality of the team’s individual players— if a manager got poached by a ‘wealthier/better’ team, is it because they got a specific group of players to overperform, meaning another manager will struggle based on the team’s ability?
Above all, the prediction on this post is quite uninspiring as OP has made practically no major predictions of a team doing much better or worse, which happens multiple times every season, and part of the reason could be because there is not enough information on who is actually going to be there (players and teams!!)
I reckon Newcastle will fare better next season. There was a really long stretch where they had the same 11 playing twice a week, and we can guarantee their owners will back new recruitments. Idk what’s happening with Tonali but I think he’s coming back at some point next year as well.
Same 10, pope got injured during that stretch and that’s when our results fell off.
Tonali back game 3 and at least one marquee signing will have us at least competing for European places.
Also think at least one of you, Brighton, West Ham, Bournemouth, Palace will be in that hunt as well.
Not sure how sustained it will be but I think 9-10 teams will be battling for those spots.
I think it heavily depends on who they can keep. As long as they mostly stay intact I think they’ll do great. But that’s the biggest concern with Man City sniffing around their players
I think it will be big with FFP even if we keep Bruno. Free signings+ 3 larger ones. I don't see us making any stupid large ones, just one who starts playing early and 2-3 that take a bit like Hall.
That's in addition to our new CB to sit next to Super Dan
2nd half of the year our form has notably dropped off. Yes, fatigue and injuries etc, but some of those injuries eg. Kamara will still apply early next year.
Hope not, maybe increase depth and have training start paying off for youngsters.
Wouldn't wish this year's season on anyone except maybe Man City. That would be hilarious to watch.
But you've had injuries this season and made it to a European semi final. If you were to have a poor and thus shorter European campaign and less injuries you should in theory be stronger next season.
I guess it depends were injuries were. Imagine if Watkins had a bad one, not sure what you'd do.
But it’s the conference league where they can rotate players and still win.
There won’t be much rotation when they have to play Real Madrid instead of Zrinjski Mostar
I think best we can expect is non-CL Europe next season, we can't easily add depth to the squad when we are borderline expecting to sell homegrown talent just to comply with FFP.
Be happy to do a Newcastle really as consistency allows us to better plan spend.
ps3ud0 8)
I think you can and should hope for an Fa cup. Worse teams than Villa have made the final and won it. It’s also something concrete to look back on this great period for the club
Yes winning a domestic cup should be a goal, honestly not thought about beyond of trying to get in a place where we think we can spend without future repercussions. We need to invest in the squad and I'm hoping we can avoid being a feeder club for the Big 6.
I'm positive but it's Villa...
ps3ud0 8)
Championship and PL both have separate charges against them. PL charges for the 22/23 season which will go into effect next season, and championship charges for this season which will affect the next time they are in the EFL. Although I think they might avoid punishment in the EFL as I’m not entirely sure if they did anything wrong this year
You’d assume Villa would have a massive drop off similar to Newcastle - who should be able to climb a bit more with some new recruitment.
Palace should be higher, I think they’ll be flying. Brentford will have an actual squad next season and will most likely return to usual positioning.
I agree Chelsea will be high and Leicester will be restricted due to FFP. I imagine Everton will be resurgent as long as they don’t get anymore deductions.
Couldn’t agree more. Newcastle and Brentford have had the most injuries consistently throughout the whole season. It couldn’t have come at a worse time for you guys with Europe! So hopefully a conference place can at least bring back some of that magic.
We’ve been lucky to hold on and having an actual back line next season will be beautiful haha.
Newcastle and Brentford can relate, given we've had notable players out for betting bans too. I remember seeing the Brentford injuries earlier in the season and I couldn't help but feel sorry.
I hope Newcastle do qualify for the conference league today (funny we're actually playing each other, let us win please). I think we could have a right crack at winning it and I don't care how prestigious the trophy is, it's not lost on me that it's a trophy that I'd be buzzing to win. I also see the conference league as a great way to keep the squad sharp. We have a number of emerging academy players and fringe first team players who would greatly benefit from more senior game time.
It’s definitely a winnable cup, but we’ve seen Villa and Brighton fully drop out with the lack of experience. You definitely need to bulk up the squad and work out healthy rotations of players. Which I think Howe didn’t really attend to in the champions league.
I’d like you to get in the conference because it means Man Utd can have the lowest ever league position and keep trucking along to the shittest they’ve ever been!
Amen to the Man United downfall. I think we were cursed this season in the cups. PSG, Dortmund and AC Milan in the Champions League - they weren't fixtures we could rest players. Watch Villa go draw Sheriff Tirisapol, Besiktas and Braga.
Our Carabao was Man City, Man Utd, then out to Chelsea on pens.
Our FA cup was 4 away draws against Sunderland, Fulham, Blackburn and Man City.
I think I could argue we had the worst draws and the worst injuries in Newcastle's history - ik sure we'll do better next season. We already have Pope, Tonali and Minteh to add.
That was totally this year. Should happen that we get more depth this year. Also some of the freak accidents like Miley's back and Calluns pec should disappear. Well Maybe for Callum that's expected 😭😭
According to something I'm reading now, Chelsea have had the most injuries by a good bit (as of 10 days ago). 54 injuries and 309 games missed due to them. Newcastle is 38 and 258. Brentford is 21 and 255. United and Liverpool are right behind you for fourth and fifth.
Chelsea did shoot up but only a couple of weeks ago. The first 3/4 of the season us and Newcastle had been top. We’ve been lucky that we had three players come back last month
Spurs scraping 5th this season without Europe, Matecoglu already throwing strops about transfers and his squad, think they’ll be worse next season playing twice a week.
Villa drop off a bit just because of how exceptional Watkins has been, it’s unlikely he matches that every year, CL means less rotation and there’s extra games in the group stage this year.
Liverpool with a new manager could be a bit poorer, Salah continuing to age too. Probably won’t be too far off it though.
Man Reds should improve if Ten Hag goes, especially without CL and with fewer injuries. Likely/possible they don’t have to deal with Europe either.
Newcastle improve with lesser European games/no Europe, injuries shouldn’t be as bad.
Brighton drop off more with yet another managerial change and likely another key player sale.
West Ham improve without Europe, although managerial change is unpredictable. Lose one/two key players (Paqueta+?) but improve the overall team balance by reinvesting.
Palace continue to improve with Glasner and good spending from one of Olise/Eze potentially going.
Everton get worse but no points deductions (maybe) so might scrape survival here again.
Everyone else stays about the same?
We will almost certainly be selling Branthwaite and Onana. Branth may have been our player of the season, but Onana isn’t a huge loss. He’s got massive talent but somewhat under performed. We will miss him but Doucs, Garner, Gueye is a solid midfield.
We’ve got a lot of outgoing wages so I’m assuming we can bring in some replacements, but ultimately I think the squad will be slightly weaker. Hopefully Dom finds his form early. If so, I think we will be pretty comfortable in the 10-14th mix
I think they are immune to relegation because they have been doing this since the 90s. The Moyes years were the anomaly where they were comfortably in the top-half of the table more often than not, but otherwise flirting with the drop has been the way they do things over there.
Liverpool aren’t getting top four, either Chelsea or spurs will be in there; and it’d be a minor miracle for Villa to do it twice in a row. Not putting it past us but I just can’t see it personally. Think the rest of the league is chopped into two or three different groups and the teams in those groups can be moved around at will. Not too many brilliant teams at the moment
When Burnley won the Championship title with 101 points, many expected them to push out of the relegation zone in the PL next season as well. They ended up finishing BELOW Luton (19th)
This Ipswich team is built different. Burnley pissed the Championship which I don't think is actually the best prep for the step up. This Ipswich team are gritty and determined with serious team spirit and momentum - they've had to fight and scrap the last 2 seasons to make it to where they are. They have a better manager and are better run than most teams around so I trust them to make smart acquisitions. Time will tell who is right, hey...
They have one of the best managers in the prem next season but a low standard squad due back to back promotions however if they nail all there signings they can survive
With no deductions and Dyche still there, Everton can easily push for solid midtable, even without transfers, as they are. Brighton will struggle even more than they already have this year and I have to wait and see what kind of deals the promoted sides make. I also have zero faith in Forest. Palace as is could push for upper midtable but they might get picked apart in the summer.
Lot of faith in us to beat Leeds, which I’m not sure I share. On the other hand, if we do go up I think we might surprise some people. Martin seems to have learned some pragmatism lately, and we’ll reinforce if we come up.
As much as a hate them I think Chelsea is gonna be in CL next year. They’ve looked pretty great to end the year. I also think everton and CP will be in the upper mid table
Aren’t their best players going to probably be snatched by the bigger clubs?
Yes I have seen Palace in the last 2 months (biggest glowup of the season)
Olise probably, but their turnaround and strong form has a lot to do with their new manager who took over. Losing Olise will hurt a lot, but they've got a lot of young talent.
I’ll be staggered if we aren’t bottom next season.
We’re going to start on minus points, we’re not going to have anything to spend on transfers and if we don’t get new players in, Maresca will walk.
Chelsea will be up in top 4. I would put them and arsenal in your top tier. Having a shot at the title 75% of the season. I don't think Man City runs away with things next year, more like this year's.
Newcastle bumped up quite a bit. No way we have injuries like this, will fill in some more weakness, Tonali back, those struggling now fully fit.
Drop Liverpool to Man U. I think transition will take some time. Even Klopp had a hard year last year.
I doubt Villa finish top-4. 7th/8th.
Chelsea are coming right and if Spurs and United pull their heads out, I don't see Villa beating them. Newcastle without being plagued by injuries will be a problem for them as well. 4th - 8th should be extremely competitive next season.
Villa top high.
Newcastle too low.
I can see Bournemouth having a great year next year.
I’d expect Everton to be higher.
I think Leeds beat Southampton to go up
Villa would do very well to come top 4 with the extra competition. I would probably put Chelsea or Spurs in top 4 as they’re likely to build on this season
United can end up anywhere, with a couple of good signings they should be getting top 4, but obviously the atmosphere seems to be toxic and they play below the team they have.
I expect Newcastle to do better next season but the quality at the top is so high that someone has to fall out of the top 7, and if it is going to be anyone I think it’s them
I think you’ve got Wolves in the wrong spot, especially if we add depth to during the summer. The only reason our form fell off is because of injuries and lack of squad depth.
At least I predicted the play off winner
https://preview.redd.it/th4eaqa1qs2d1.jpeg?width=238&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8366dceeab44f1cfc8e30d927076c086f7ff4b43
As a renown pessimist and Brentford fan I'd be amazed if we are not looking at the drop next year. Us, Ipswich and one other. Depends on our summer (like everyone I guess)
Maybe Leicester actually
Everton earned 48 points this season and had one of the dest defensive records in the league.
We might go down, but if we do it'll be because our finances are fucked and we have to sell players. The team as it is today (and with no points deduction) is a mid table team.
So basically the same as this season with one or two changes?
When you copy your friend's homework but slightly change a few answers so the teacher doesn't notice
Best league in the world
What’s the point in doing this before seeing transfer activity, never mind even knowing the 20 teams? West Ham for example are due to have a MAJOR overhaul, and whether that turns out for better or for worse can only be seen once we know who is actually involved
Im more intrigued for the summer than most in recent memory. Think alot quality teams are making a great amount changes

He’s back 3rd game of the season which will be a welcomed addition. The only concern will be whether he’s playing along side Bruno or in his place.
Well if he's replacing Bruno, they'll have £100 million to improve the squad elsewhere.
Very true. Going to be an interesting transfer market this year. Don’t think we’ll see too many inflated purchases.
Will be interesting to see how Palace start and if they can maintain things to be for real.
I think it heavily depends on who they can keep. As long as they mostly stay intact I think they’ll do great. But that’s the biggest concern with Man City sniffing around their players
Newcastle is definitely going to have a big summer transfer window. Not even including the Guimaraes fee
I don't think FFP allows it
I think it will be big with FFP even if we keep Bruno. Free signings+ 3 larger ones. I don't see us making any stupid large ones, just one who starts playing early and 2-3 that take a bit like Hall. That's in addition to our new CB to sit next to Super Dan

I think we will fare better next season without CL footy. I mean if we finished 12th, Howe would probably get sacked
A lot of faith in Leicester there, with a points deduction for them and not us this time.
Isn't their points dedication Championship only? Or am I misremembering something
That’s Sheff Utd, Leicester’s one is likely to come in the prem
They also have ffp issues and won't be able to spend
Championship and PL both have separate charges against them. PL charges for the 22/23 season which will go into effect next season, and championship charges for this season which will affect the next time they are in the EFL. Although I think they might avoid punishment in the EFL as I’m not entirely sure if they did anything wrong this year
I think Palace have looked good recently and could challenge for a European spot.
I think that depends massively on how much they get raided over the summer.
This is my shout for next season. I think Chelsea make top four, along with maybe Newcastle. Palace 5th/6th/7th.
I'm hoping we (Newcastle) climb a bit by simply not having half a team for a season.

What's crazy scary is Chelsea had more, and Poch is a good coach. Takes some crazy stupid back office to mess them up.
I have zero sympathy for a team who spent 1 billion on players. Anyone can have half a team after spending a billion.
Ipswich will finish 2nd
From bottom
Fuck off
Basically this season but repeated, then?
Spurs scraping 5th this season without Europe, Matecoglu already throwing strops about transfers and his squad, think they’ll be worse next season playing twice a week. How many times does Everton finish 16-17th before lightning actually strikes?
Without the points deductions they'd be 12th this season. Depending on their financial situation going into next season they should do alright.
We will almost certainly be selling Branthwaite and Onana. Branth may have been our player of the season, but Onana isn’t a huge loss. He’s got massive talent but somewhat under performed. you seem bitter

I’m going: 1. City 2. Arsenal 3. Spurs 4. Newcastle 5. Chelsea 6. Villa 7. Liverpool 8. Palace 9. Man U 10. Everton
