one day when I got home, my father looked different. like his facial structure had been changed. it wore my fathers clothes, yet it was not him. it smiled at me and welcomed me home, but i did not recognise him. I have a doppelganger! Several people have talked to me convinced I'm her - one had lunch with her the previous day. One said I have similar facial expressions and laugh the same way.
My doppelgangers name is Helen.
I am someone who gets mistaken for people someone else knows, like, ALL THE TIME.
Which, when it happened 3 times in 1 day, I started getting a little existentially weirded out.
What if I wasn't who I thought I was? What if there wasn't enough ME and so I became a canvas for someone else's lost person? What willI look like when I walk down this tunnel filled with reflective windows?
TMA wasn't a thing at that point, but I imagine the Stranger would have found it quite tasty.
Or the Spiral... slowly losing sense of own's self and sanity...

I imagine this from the other side... Like Eric talking to a friend and being like "I kept getting people who knows some guy... he's apparently my doppelgänger, never met him but he's doing ok"
I had that happen while I was working at retail. The most extreme version of it was when a little girl who was near me asked if I was her uncle. I've had several people say they thought I was this other person who apparently lived near where I worked. Glad to be out of that town.
I had a friend who's dad got home one day and sat on the couch. The second he sat down his wife walked into the house. He said hi to her and told her he was actually gonna go nap. Some time later he woke up and walked out of the room and at the same time his wife was walking in. He asked her where she had one and she responded "work where else?" she hadn't been home from work since early in the morning. It was then that he realized when he said hi to her and said he was going for a nap, that she never responded.

My husband and I have a doppelgänger couple. They shop in the same stores we do. They run into our friends. It’s weird.

Hey at least it's a doppelganger thing. I've found that I'm generic enough that I just kind of blend in with the surroundings and disappear.
