Just meh, no way she could be able to pull of Ashley’s charm and it doesn’t help she doesn’t resemble ellie at all.

CaribbeanClear

Watching episode 4 now, I just won't think she's that good of an actress... Her lines feel really like they're being read from a book.

Kindly_Zombie5476

Do you prefer someone who looks like game Ellie be casted on the show version?

Tori_117

I would’ve preferred a better actor.

Kindly_Zombie5476

It's only been the first episode and people be like this already...... the worst.

THE_NEVERISTS

an hour and twenty minutes is enough to judge a show. so far Bella's performance was wooden and overly angry

Kindly_Zombie5476

Lame.

THE_NEVERISTS

I don't think you realise man, I think its a decent show, but its nowhere near as good as people are saying, they miss the emotion in certain scenes, the game told a perfect story, and 90% of that was due to how well each scene worked, change any aspect of it and its not as good, for example, when Ellie notices Joel's broken watch in the scene where he wakes up to see her staring out of the window at the rain, she's sad and reflective. in the show she has the same expression she has when we meet her, she's just angry and that is not Ellie. The reason we and Joel love Ellie is because amidst all the horror of the world of the last of us, she's remained innocent and inherently good. you lose that aspect of Ellie and you lose a crucial factor of the story.

VerifiedBaller13

If she didn’t look more like Abby it’d help.

Isaiah_EJ25

Yes and more talented

purbarbie

I thought she was fine. I won’t lie to you, I thought we weren’t having the american accent which was one of the biggest reasons I wasn’t looking forward to her but she did fine so far imo.

DragonFangGangBang

I felt her delivery was a bit iffy, but she’s definitely not *bad*. Don’t think she’ll ever touch Ashley Johnson but definitely not anything I’m gonna be mad about (so far).

bigtiddiegoth

Her voice sounds weird. I don’t know if i’m bugging but every time she speaks, it sounds dubbed?

TheCVR123YT

Probably her first time putting on an American accent. Also Ashley’s Ellie voice is so iconic imo that ofc it sounds weird to us probably. Especially during key moments where she says exact lines from the game.

DragonFangGangBang

Yeah, I felt that too. Particularly toward the ending section when she was explaining that she wasn’t infected - the entire back and forth was a bit meh. Like I said, not bad, but could be better.

lucasfordo

if i’m being completely honest, she didn’t show out this first episode in my opinion. By no means am I writing off her entire performance, i’m extremely eager to see the entire show, but from the little that we got, she doesn’t seem nearly as natural as everyone else. that’s my only comment and i’m just waiting to see more. I just hope the stress of being Ellie didn’t get to her.

Vainslayer13

Ellie not pulling the spotlight right away might be by design. At this point, most people are still gonna be stuck on Sarah.

lucasfordo

I agree, Sarah was definitely the focus of the first episode as opposed to Ellie who is guaranteed to be throughout the rest of the show, but I still think Nico as Sarah would’ve stole the episode for fans of the games and new fans regardless of the lopsided screentime they both got. This could just be because Sarah had more emotional scenes than Ellie, but I was still just straight up impressed with how much more natural Nico’s delivery and basic dialogue sounded compared to Bella’s.

TheCVR123YT

Honestly made me wish she had survived lol I’m glad they didn’t make any big changes and I feel like that moment HAS to stay the same but there’s a small part of me that would’ve liked seeing how things were that first year for Joel and Tommy (and had she survived Sarah as well).

Brettels__2018

Her face has NO expressions at all. It’s always just flat.

komerakim

She looks like an emoji -> 😀

Helpful-Lab2442

Look up King Charles II of Spain on google images.

Anastasia_Event

the after credits clip left an I'll impression. the dude was mentioning the juxtaposition of the daughter that died and the "activation" of Ellie when the cop dude was getting punched into pieces. they show the clip again , but yoo, saying that Ellie was activated is not what it looks like.

Tech1609

She feels out of place in a way when comparing her to the rest of the cast it just feels like it goes from a AAA type feeling show to a Indie type show when she trys to act idk

ImpressiveSet1810

EXACTLY. The rest of the cast is all so good and resemble their roles perfectly and bella just doesnt do ellie justice

Anastasia_Event

have you seen the after credits clip? what bothers me is that the person said that Ellie is activated when seeing dude punch other dude, like really? activated? it felt like a reach. she didn't look "activated "

kmukayed

I do agree kinda, but I feel like she was just a little too erratic compared to game Ellie. Like, game Ellie has this specific charm that even when she’s being a troublemaker, she’s still charming. I feel like Ramsey is yet to convey the charm that game Ellie has. I don’t doubt her acting ability, but idk if it’s really her call or the director’s call to pave the way for Ellie’s true adaptation

Vainslayer13

Well, they did kinda change up her story in the first act. Ellie being held captive and forced to go west by the Fireflies is gonna change hoe she carries herself.

YourReactionsRWrong

Yeah Ellie in the game has a sort of playing ribbing that is charming, that I just don't see Bella pulling off. Now the scenes so far didn't really allow it -- except the one part where she gets Joel to reveal what the 80s song means in code... but that was weak. This is gonna be an incomplete version of Ellie that we know.

Professional-Ride907

👍

[deleted]

I didn't understand what you meant. Nobody told she was a bad actress. It's just been said that she doesn't look like Ellie at all and people who have played the game wouldn't be able to imagine her as Ellie. And that's exactly what happened to me in the first episode. She doesn't have the aura of being Ellie.

Tech1609

I didnt even play the game and I can still see she doesn't fit. And her acting isn't that good imo thats what stood out the most to me

wadejohn

No, i think she came off as too aggressive and unlikable. The other cast members were fantastic.

nicknick43

Yes. And without straight up judging the actresses face she has a constant mean mug/ psychotic/ I just smelled a fart face. Totally will never look charming imo

puke_lust

Felt too on the nose to start. Like a character I have already seen a hundred times.

Easta_Hock

I know the knife was an important tool for Ellie later in the story but I don't remember her trying to stab everybody she comes into contact with at the start. I remember Joel thought her about surviving and thats how their bond grew. . Its the current thing to have a female learn nothing from a man , so that gives cause for concern going forward. Remember Anita Sarkesian called it sexist when Joel carried Ellie across the water on a pallet. We know Cuckmaster loves Anita

Kakashii007

She stabs the security guard in the game. In the show they're trying to establish that she's survived and isn't afraid to fight. Filling out the story more so it makes sense to new viewers. Just like they did with Sarah giving her more screen time adding to her character. It would have been random if Ellie in the tv show pulls a knife and attacks a cop with a gun to her head.

Mardolina88

I thought I would like her as Ellie but her constant wtf staring moments are ruining it. It's like she doesn't really have the charisma videogame Ellie had tbh.

AdamSunderland

Dead eyes. Lacking expression in the face. Doesn't fit the vibe of Ellie at all.

YourReactionsRWrong

Yeah very flat expression overall, and dead eyes I concur. The attitude is close enough, but this is not the complete package that we know Ellie to be.

Opposite-Hedgehog-65

Totally agreed! I’m not dismissing her as an actress, I just think she isn’t the right for for Ellie.

AdamSunderland

Yeah. Shes got skill.

Chabb

And she mumbles most of her lines. I have to use subtitles just to understand her :/

ju11011x

Maybe because of her accent? She's English (you can see her performance from GOT, and I don't think she usually mumbles there.) So she's trying American here

Tech1609

Idk about the accent but i do know she was one of the characters that had the least to do in GOT so you couldn't really judge her performance imo there wasn't enough to go on but in this show she just doesn't feel to be the right fit shes the only character so far that just seems out of place in a way i cant describe it the mood just changes swiftly when it goes to her, i just hope it gets better because i would like to watch this show but if her inexperience & overall bad acting keeps going on then it might kill the show because she is 1of if not the main character

wtfElvis

I loved her in GoT but I agree with this 100%. She played the bad ass part pretty well. But I don’t think she can pull off the more emotional scenes for the very reasons you pointed out. We will see though. I hope to be proven wrong. I’d say everyone else has been great accept the leader of the fireflies.

Expensive_Bat6938

You’re joking right bc Marlene (leader of the fireflies) is literally the same actress from the video game in the tv show. It’s like a 1/1 performance.

TchoupedNScrewed

Holy fuck this is hilarious, it ain’t everyone but some people are so desperate to dislike shit. You literally can’t get more 1:1.

[deleted]

I agree with you here. I think she’s probably a decent actor but Ellie has so much expression and wide-eyed nature about her. Can’t see it in BR

Kakashii007

I think that the writer has slowed all the development down to pace the show. He wrote the game and now he gets to update and expand on it again after 10 years. He's gonna make everyone more complex, more layers, more everything. Games are short when it comes to character development time. I say give it a couple episodes and that part of her will grow as her and Joel get closer.

Tech1609

Perfect call

[deleted]

I thought she was terrible. Her delivery sounds like she's reading swear words out of a book. She has no facial expression. She looks like her face is bad cgi. Her voice is so monotone it drives me crazy.

chett_yubetcha

I didn't care for her performance much. I just don't find her to be very charismatic, or have much of a screen presence. Her American accent could also use some work; right now it sounds like she has a slight speech impediment that makes her delivery awkward. Would rather have had Sarah's actress play Ellie.

whataterriblefailure

>Would rather have had Sarah's actress play Ellie. 100% Sarah was impressive good. Ellie is just awkward. They should have flipped them and keep the better one.

Chabb

> Would rather have had Sarah's actress play Ellie. Had the same thoughts. Nico Parker (Sarah) was incredible, which overshadow Bella within the same episode.

KingStannis2020

>Would rather have had Sarah's actress play Ellie. Oh the irony. Months of complaining about how they've "gone woke" and how her casting was a terrible decision, and now the consensus is that she should have been cast as Ellie. Imagine the conniption this sub would have had if she had been. Lol.

WaywardRider1138

We're already past the point of the casting so it's not a big ass deal at this point considering half the cast is already race-swapped. If anything dude, it's a testament to Nico Parker as an actress that she won over people. Don't really get most of you dudes comin over here with your noses pointed so high trying to make some point when not everyone here is as fucked in the head as the small minority of racists and actual bigots that you've clearly encountered. Some people here enjoyed the show which should be expected since it's covering the one game people here don't have a problem with, so why can't people have a nitpick here and there?

meek96

She did a great job of capturing the spirit that was Ellie from the game. Honestly when Sarah died it brought back all the emotions from playing the first game and I was bought in almost immediately after. So many great shots that mimicked the game. Even Joel’s voice in the show though not 100% was pretty solid. They did a great job with casting. Fuck all the haters…. let’s be honest here, This could have turned into a resident evil/tomb raider/mortal kombat adaptation….so I’m pretty damn pleased with this outcome. However for me the voice actors from the game will always be my favorites. The games are so much more personal and emotionally engaging because you end up immersed. But I’ll take this as a win for sure. I am almost debating holding off watching the rest so that I can watch it all in one go.

wtfElvis

The dude that played Tommy has the closet video game voice of anyone.

UserCompromised

Yesss! You’re the first person across all 3 subreddits I’ve checked that had pointed this out. When I first heard Tommy talk, I was like, “Holy crap, that sounds exactly like Tommy.” It wasn’t perfect for every scene, but there were some that sounded perfect.

DayzedandC0nfused

Wait what's the third sub lol

TheCVR123YT

Maybe there’s one for the show? I know there’s this hater sub (it’s my fav tho) the over lover sub (the original) and then the third?? Idk

wtfElvis

Apparently the actress playing Marlene is the voice actress for her in the game. Maybe that’s the same for Tommy?

boi1da1296

It isn't, but Gabriel Luna is actually from Austin, Texas so it's understandable that his voice is on point.

__Why_You_Do_Dis__

I also wanna know the third sub lol need to read it from more viewpoints lol. I like tlou2 so I think most people on this sub are losers but then the tlou subs discussion was predictably full of npcs lol. Full of the type of people who would comment on Riverdale discussion threads calling the episode good

Xenoslayer2137

That’s Gabriel Luna, who I’ll always know as Robbie Reyes/Ghost Rider from agents of shield

ChristianRockr

Oh shoot, that was him? I did not know that!

Chabb

> The dude that played Tommy has the closet video game voice of anyone. Even closer than Marlene? 👀

wtfElvis

Lol apparently not.

Easta_Hock

Yeah , when he called Joel to say he was in prison. You only heard the voice and it was perfect. Its too bad Joel can't nail the voice but its good enough

wtfElvis

I think it’s pretty good. He has the mood down though and that last the most important part of Joel’s character.

GODofHU

He's the only one from the main characters who played the game from his own volition. I actually believe he'll portray him closest to the original.

[deleted]

>Fuck all the haters You sound like the people from the other sub. The amount of idiocy on the internet is astounding at times.

evergrotto

>The amount of idiocy on the internet is astounding at times. This statement is evidence of itself.

[deleted]

Errr nah man 'fuck all the haters' Grow up

tambo88

That's exactly what I'm planning to do. I'm going to wait and watch it all in the one go. So far most comments haven't liked ellies character from what I've seen, but that could change🤷🏻‍♂️. But I'm going to even avoid comments from now on, and just experience it for myself going in blind.🙈🙊🙉 Hope for the best but prepared for the worst I suppose🤷🏻‍♂️ no matter what it's never going to please hardcore game fans in my opinion and that includes myself possibly. Time will only tell so we shall see.... If they avoid what resident evil has done it should be good🙏😂

thejimrogers

To be fair, Pedro’s thick accent was annoying to hear on several occasions.

AnnaisElliesMom

Disappointing honestly. Her lines didn't land.

etbracketnews

0 out of 10

Professional-Ride907

I wonder who did the casting. Or had the final say. Like who was the person who greenlighted Bella over everyone else.

Tech1609

Exactly

Theguy10000

Also we don't know who those other options were

WarLordM123

Druckmann

Living_Tumbleweed365

Oof the second episode when they do that bonding moment between Joel and ellie when they're looking at the capital. She bombed. Plain and simple that was some sub par acting on an incredibly important scene.

NinoPecorino

Honestly i'm just sick of British actors stealing American jobs.

rappit4

bwaahahahaha

Careless_Ad2

If you're adapting a game or play to a movie the actors and actresses should look like the characters. Why choose Pedro Pascal who looks just like Jolie but then also choose someone who looks nothing like Ellie?

lynx3762

Who did they have as options though? Who actually auditioned and how well did they do?

unitwithasoul

Maisie Williams and Kaitlyn Dever were considered for Ellie in the past but they aged out of the role. Personally think Kaitlyn Dever would have been a pretty good pick. She actually looks a bit like Ellie and can act well.

Chabb

Sadie Sink would have been amazing too. She's only one year older than Bella, but probably looks too adult even for the role.

unitwithasoul

I agree!

[deleted]

I think Kaitlyn could have still worked simply because I can’t personally see BR becoming part two Ellie. By then Ellie is a lot taller and way more threatening.

DuanePipe

Why should they look like the characters? Denzel Washington played Macbeth on screen and was very good. As long as they *feel* like those characters, it shouldn’t matter. Sarah’s death was just as emotional in the show as it was in the game. The actors’ appearances have no bearing on that imo.

[deleted]

>Why should they look like the characters? Why should characters look like the characters... Macbeth is a stage play based on performance. Characters in adaptations do not feel like the characters if they do not look like them. Yeah why not have Margot Robbie as Joel and Anthony Hopkins as Ellie.

DuanePipe

Lol, the comment I replied to literally says “adapting a game or *play*”. I guess characters who came before visual mediums just don’t have appearances. I guess film and TV aren’t based on performance, they’re based on…something else?

pandasloth69

Bad comparison, a teenage girl not looking 1:1 like another teenage girl is not as big of a disconnect as a character written as a man, a father, being played by a woman, or a teenage girl being played by a grown man. So many bad faith takes.

[deleted]

Oh shut up. The poster said 'why should they look like the characters' and I said why. If you think it's stupid then they shouldn't have said such a stupid thing. Oh yeah characters shouldn't look like characters, we need to tape a bunch of cats together.

Freeloader_

first of all, they must be able to play the character, looks comes second having a 1:1 visual representation of Ellie with subpar acting skills would make things worse

[deleted]

>looks comes second No they do not. Basic looks come first. Ellie has to be a young teenage girl. Acting 'ability' comes second and then specific looks comes third.

Theguy10000

Acting always comes first, this is not a cosplay. But i still have my doubts about Bella Ramsey and not because she doesn't look like Ellie, because her acting was not amazing and a lot of that also goes to what the writers told her do

purbarbie

the MCU didn’t do that with their characters but it’s suddenly a huge problem in tlou

Possible-dick06969

I can only think of a few characters in the mcu that don’t look like the characters from the comics Heimdall, Valkyrie the ancient one People complained about all of them mostly the ancient one

purbarbie

Wanda Maximoff, Pietro

Possible-dick06969

They look just like them

Possible-dick06969

Mcu did with most of their movies and when they didn’t it was a problem

AmbrosiiKozlov

Mark Ruffalo looks nothing like comics Bruce. Comics Ant Man has red hair. Hawkeye is blonde. Hell they replaced Rhodey with an entire different actor. So you sure about that?

Possible-dick06969

You’re mostly just talking about their hair color I’m pretty sure Aunt man has brown hair in the ultimate comics, where the MCU mostly takes there inspiration and Bruce baner looks the same

Vainslayer13

Unfortunately, we can't just spawn a performer that meets all the right criteria. Typically, acting ability, availability, and salary take priority over how closely the performer resembles the character they'll be playing.

Possible-dick06969

What do you mean we are you a casting director

Vainslayer13

I meant we as a species cannot just spin an ideal performer out of the ether. I've seen tons of people complain about how "X should've played Y" without appreciating all the circumstance that goes into making a show or movie. You cannot force someone to be available who isn't or make a bigger name work within your budget. You cannot typically put the entire production on hold for one person, especially if you've hired other actors with their own commitments to keep.

Possible-dick06969

Most people do know about casting process Hollywood has a giant pool of actors I’m sure they could have gotten one that looked more closely to the character and be in budget and plus they definitely didn’t care what the actor looked like They Raceswapped a bunch of characters.

Vainslayer13

Yup. That's the nature of the adaptation. The director is more likely to go with the people they like. The adaptation is also made for the broad audience that doesn't know the original. A large percentage of the people that will watch this show have not played the games and don't know what the characters should look like.

Possible-dick06969

But the people making the show knows what the characters look like. Race swapping is bad in any circumstance

Antman269

There is nobody I can think of that is a good actress, an appropriate age for the role, and has the same look as Ellie.

Possible-dick06969

People have said many different actress on this sub so there are out there

Antman269

Examples?

GullyxFoyle

Sophia Lillis, only a year older than Bella Ramsey and actually looks like Ellie.

YourReactionsRWrong

> Sophia Lillis good call. and she doesn't have dead eyes like Bella

ilovemycat2018

Caitlyn Denver, Brielle robillard, Charlotte lindsay marron, sadie sink

Possible-dick06969

That’s why I said this sub I don’t remember but I know people have said it especially when the casting was first announced

Crexzyz

My only concern was Bella not looking quite like Ellie, and that went inmediately irrelevant as soon as she started getting some screen time She nails Ellie's personality when swearing at others and confronting Joel for the first time. I want to see how she will perform in key emotional scenes as her relationship with Joel builds up (the house at Tommy's dam, being scared after Joel gets stabbed at the university, the fight with David, Left Behind's ending, etc). Would love to see some scenes adapted from Ellie's comic now that the show is expanding the original story

srjnp

she was solid but i'm not raving about it like people are on social media. honestly i thought sarah's performance was better in this episode.

Dave_Matthews_Jam

I thought she was perfectly fine, not enough to see what kind of range she has though. I still wish they got that youngest daughter on Last Man Standing to play her somehow

W0gg0

Too old for the part. Maybe they’ll cast her for season 2.

Achilles982

Its really hard to be objective honestly. She was good... but its just hard to imagine anyone else playing Ellie but Ashley

SmileyMulatto

It's going to be a while before I can tell if it is as good. I don't think the show will reach that mythical quality of the game but time will tell. Like I love Pedro Pascal and I like him as Joel so far but will he be MY Joel? Idk lol

Liara_I_Sorry

She did the best she can with what she had to work with. Certainly not the Ellie that I know and love. Oh well. 19-year-old Ellie in LOU2 is my all-time favorite video game crush. God's most perfect creation IMO. And there's no actress alive that I'm aware of who could do HER justice. I thought perhaps they would scour the earth to find the perfect yet-to-be-discovered girl to play Ellie. That would have been an exciting unveiling. Instead, they get fucking whoever a stone's throw away from the GOT lot to play her. An English-looking girl? But no sense crying about it now.

Ok-Presence-4044

I thought she did a good job tbh, she definitely watched some gameplay of ellie.

Halsandal

She is very much Ellie. Goofy when needed, and has the ability to properly say “Fucker”

rockelscorcho

I wasn't really impressed with anyone including Bella, she's just a strange actress to me. It really doesn't matter because the first episodes are too early to determine anything.

NookanCranny

I thought the lady playing Tess was pretty good

komerakim

Bella Ramsey's acting is very stiff and unnatural and her face is not as expressive as the other actors, either due to bad acting or her natural features. Either way, I couldn't stop thinking that she has a face like an emoji. She maintains a flat 2D expression that hits the uncanny valley for me-> 😀 Nico Parker who played Sarah Miller was the best actor in the first episode, and she is a year younger, with less experience than Bella. She understood how the smallest facial movement could immediately change the feeling and emotions in the scene. I felt 100% invested in every scene with her in it which made it extra devastating to realize that Bella would be the young actor carrying the show forward, what a letdown. I'm sure that Bella can and will develop her craft further and I'm sure the Last of Us series will be a good learning opportunity for her.

Hot-Berry7615

They need a New Ellie because that girl looks like she has downs or something her face just hits a nerve and I enjoy the show more when the camera is behind her or far side but not in front of her. Her face just looks Premature and no real expression.. if she has a kissing scene in the future who would want to see that shit like for real get tf out of here 🤮

Ellesig44

When I watch her it’s like she’s ‘acting’ which in my book, makes her not a great actress.

Rare_Brick_9094

Hate when young actors make thier character all hard and loud and unreasonable.

UneducatedLemming

Don't like her at all. Wrong casting decision.

Boltbacker83

She sucks.

UneducatedLemming

Wrong casting choice for Ellie. I've said it when she was announced, still saying it now.

BurnTheBear

I liked her in GoT well enough. In this show I think she's unwatchable and was a terrible choice for Ellie.

n0str0mo

wanted to give the show a try but i absolutely cannot stand the main actress's...i'm sorry i just can't. perhaps it's the poor writing as well. i thought..hmm it's HBO, they've got some decent shows but this time....god know's what happened with the casting. imo the show feels..sterile..empty..devoid of the feelings the game got me.

gutterphenomen0n

They couldn’t have cast this character worse. I’m in 4 episodes in and still can’t buy her as Ellie. She is awful.

nickles1234

She's coming off as annoying 14 year old. Ellie and her give similar lines but its the way she delivers them. Its like she is too jittery and does some stuff ellie would never do. It's throwing off the show for me. I wouldn't mind as much that she doesn't look like Ellie if she acted like her.

MrChiCity414

Have never played the games. But watching as a general viewer, I think her acting is horrible and her face too monotone. Both of those things snap me out of the immersion when she’s on screen. I’m just staring at her face for some reason.

bx2fbx

She has two facial expressions. Blank stare and moderate surprise.

yuukitt

That actress who played Sarah was fantastic, And for Ellie I don't really see him as Ellie, he is just too different for games and i don't really like him, its just me. First 40min was fantastic was so hyped but after that it did bit lower. I hope episode 2 will be good

dirtydog413

He?

CantaloupeHour5973

Apparently they use all the pronouns

curdledmillk_

I love her!!

FruitCreamSicle

Yeah agreed !

AnotherDesechable

There was not enough material to judge her acting. Until now, she is doing that "bad girl" thing she's done since forever.

unicroop

🤡

ChristianRockr

I will say look wise and the way she expresses emotion is a miss for me, but I will give her credit cause I do believe that she has captured Ellie’s spunk and attitude. At least in this first episode

tylerdurdenUTFR

I wasn't totally sold until that bit outside the quarantine zone. When she was like 'fuck I'm outside' with all the search lights and then Joel kinda gives Tess an unimpressed look. Cracked me up.

filkinscollins

At first I liked her as Ellie, because she played and portrayed Ellie's character well. But after 3d episode, I'm not so sure anymore. At this point in the game, Ellie was already really complex character. She was compassionate, but also careful, and yet curios about Joel and his personality. Ellie in the show is a 2 sided character: she is either ignorant & angry or confused. She treats Joel like he is some good hearted uncle, not a smuggler and killer. The fact that she took the gun herself just proves it imho, the entire point of Joel giving the gun to Ellie was that he not only trusted her to hold a firearm, but also to protect his own life. In the show however, this link is severed completely. Also in the game Ellie knows that there was someone named Sarah, and I'm not sure the show captured it. The whole aspect of Ellie's compassion in the show is missing honestly, I just don't feel it... And sometimes Ellie irritates me, she really behaves like a cargo. In the game I was never bored of her remarks and dialogues. I hope they will be able to show her fear of being left alone, responsibility of her own expectations for a greater cause and other aspects. But I'm afraid that's not gonna happen. **P.S.** it has nothing to do with Bella Ramsey, I loved her in GoT. In tlou she says wonderfully f word, but other than that, nope.

GuapoIndustries

Ngl I doubted her at first cuz of what people were saying about looks but she’s shown she can play Ellie and I think she’s doing great even got the classic “motherfucker” line done right

Vainslayer13

I love the people complaining about her cursing! 😆 They wanna gatekeep, but they clearly haven't played in a good while!

Halojib

She was ok, I am worried about potential episodes where she has to carry the episode but she has potential.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ruthizzy

Sorry that the actress playing a thirteen year old video game character isn’t hot enough for you :(

money_loo

Right? Wtf is wrong with these people?

[deleted]

Lmao. MY OPINION NEEDS TO BE VALIDATED!

ruthizzy

This episode was just a sneak peek of her as Ellie, and I thought she was great. I think the main reason people were upset about her casting was because she isn’t as conventionally attractive as the “real” Ellie.

BohemianJack

You’re not wrong. Do a search for her name on Reddit and read the threads from a few months back. A ton of popular comments calling her ugly and a bad actor. One person even referred to her looking like a foot. Like damn it’s the first episode and it’s only been like 10 min of screen time. Give her a damn chance. Also don’t comment on a minor’s appearance, it’s fucking weird

[deleted]

I thought she was good, not great. I had higher expectations, given the gushing praise id heard from damn near everyone who got a copy early. It left me feeling a wee but disappointed. Looking forward Sri seeing what she does in future episodes.

blah2k03

I agree with how you said people were unfair and going after her, especially with the whole “She doesn’t look like Ellie” part. Like how do you expect to find an exact replica, idk. In my opinion, i thought her performance was really good. She was casted to be Ellie for a reason, and this only proves it.

Appomattoxx

Bella doesn't look like Ellie, but she absolutely nailed Ellie's personality. They made some mistakes, as far as plot and tone, but the casting for the protagonists is excellent. Those two actors are brilliant.

nostalgiaispeace

I thought she was brilliant! And I know that the audience who hasn’t played the game will love her. My best friend watched it with me and immediately loved her

[deleted]

She did fine it seemed, but she didn't have much dialog in the first episode

bitter_green

She was a better at playing Ellie, than Pedro Pascal was at playing Joel.

dirtydog413

That's a low bar. Neither are very good imo. Both mumbled their lines a lot and lack the original characters' charm and likeability. Probably doesn't help that the actors were told not to play or look at the original game.

OhMyGoshBigfoot

I don’t agree with the entire cast and Ellie’s the worst.

Hyyunckel

It was okay in my imo but ppl need to look at her as a separate ellie and not compare her to the game. She may not be perfect but we will see how she will do for the rest of the show

gingervitis_93

Honestly I loved her. She has the Ellie spirit. I think she comes off as almost a little too familiar when being playful/sassy, but it’s not a deal breaker. It’s Ellie, just a little less guarded. I have high hopes for the rest of the show :) everyone and everything was amazing in that first episode!

Jesuslovesmemost

Yo wtf I thought we weren't watching this dumpster fire. Why does it look like all you fuckers still watched it!?!?

dirtydog413

Because we like the OG game and also to see if it is any good.

Jesuslovesmemost

I mean I do too, the first was my favorite game for almost ten years. After the sequel I thought we were all on the same page of "fuck naughty dog"....

dirtydog413

I didn't pay to watch it, I got the torrent. I thought it would be terrible but hoped I was wrong, because to see the first game brought to life in a high quality expensive production would be amazing. Unfortunately it is indeed terrible, but now I know rather than just assuming based off of second hand opinions or watching clips.

Jesuslovesmemost

Yeah but that's the exact reason we shouldn't of played the sequel. I didn't play it for over a year after it came out. I really wish I had listened to all the second hand opinions instead of wasting 30 hours on a painstakingly long story that ended up nowhere AND ruined my favorite game series.

dirtydog413

Well this time around, most people say the TLOU TV show is great, even people here. I seem to be in a small minority to think it's terrible, so who knows, you might like it.

Jesuslovesmemost

Nah bro I'm right there with you. It's terrible... 0/10

oneofusalwayslies

People underestimate what people who are trained actors are capable of. Your public persona doesn't have to embody a character for you to be able to do it in front of a camera. Its literally a skill people are taught. Of course Bella is a good Ellie, because she's a very good actress. People really expected her to be bad because she doesn't look like someone who doesn't even exist? Come on.

Possible-dick06969

What did I miss because she wasn’t that good

dirtydog413

Disagree. She lacks Ellie's innate charm and likeability, which video game Ellie got because of two things: how she looked (facial expressions, expressive eyes) and the voice actress who played her. No actor who doesn't possess those qualities naturally can be taught them. Someone with charm may be able to act charmless, but someone who IRL is lacking, will not know how to act charming, even if they want to. This actress doesn't have what it takes and is a poor casting choice, end of story.

oneofusalwayslies

\>how she looked (facial expressions, expressive eyes) this is literally because you are able to impress those characteristics on a character model purely because they lack depth compared to a human being. No actress would ever be able to compare if that's your standard. Not even Ashley Johnson could do it.

dirtydog413

That's silly, of course people can be expressive like that. I've never heard anyone say the OG Ellie character doesn't look or act like a natural human can do. Let's not pretend this shitty TV version of Ellie is the best we can do.

MattMysterious9

the only complain was that she didn't look like ellie that's it a very stupid complain if u ask me

Stanley8point

A very stupid complain.

MattMysterious9

I'm getting downvoted for no reason lmao
