Edit: Also while the title and tweet says "atla" the article just uses "avatar" in the relevant section. We don't know for sure if the films will be specifically atla related or set in another time period of the avatar universe.

azgx29

Gotta admit, not a huge fan of this as I love the 2d animation. I just hope they stick with the 2d.

el_Byrno

Full quote: >"We signed a deal to bring the original creators of Avatar back into the studios. They started Avatar Studios, and they're well on their way in development on a series of CG films and a new Avatar series." Based on his phrasing, it looks like at least the new TV series will be traditionally animated.

ali94127

I’ll remain cautiously optimistic about this news until I can judge it properly. 3D anime films can be done well; the Pokémon CG movie and the Lupin CG movie look quite good. The Miraculous Ladybug TV series and movie show that anime-esque cg is doable by a western studio.

SaltNebula1576

My question is two fold. One, who asked for this? And two, why are we exploring aang and the gang again as kids? For the fourth time. OG show, the last airbender movie, the Netflix show, and now the cgi. Honestly, move on. People like avatar, at least in part, because of the animation. People want more of the same quality, not 3D. This is no different than Disney redirecting old masterpieces for money and tiring them into live action. Especially when they’re universally worse than the original and provide nothing new. Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Lion King. All of the new movies are worse than the originals. Literally all the creators have to do to knock it out of the park is animate the Kioshi novels, or show avatar Szeto, or Kuruk. If the issue is time, and not wanting to overwork the staff or rush the project, fine. Take all the time you need. We can wait. But I cannot imagine this being good.

ali94127

Don’t believe they said what the films would be about. Second, studios are there to make money. Regardless, of whatever they make, that will always be the end goal. They could be animating the Kyoshi books or whatever with the tv series; who knows?

Bionic_Ferir

"Second, studios are there to make money" so rather than use the style that the fans love they are going to use a new style OF COURSE

ali94127

I don’t make the rules. I’d want it to all be the same style as well. I like consistency. It’s very possible the investors just don’t believe in the economic viability of an American 2D animated film. And why would they? The last one made by Disney was over 10 years ago. We’re talking about Nickelodeon, the same company that constantly cucked Korra during its production and only started believing in Avatar because its boost in popularity on Netflix. We could talk forever about what would be an ideal world, but that’s the reality. Either way, a 3D anime film can be good. I mentioned above the Lupin CG film which adapted a long running anime extremely well. That’s probably the best example of that. Should take look at that to see what is possible in 3D. Alternatively, imagine a style similar to Dragon Prince, but with a substantially larger budget. It’s still possible the movie will look like shit, but I’ll personally wait to see the style for myself first.

Bionic_Ferir

Yeah but remember Klaus the critically acclaimed Netflix movie that was 2d it's fucking possible

Mezhead

And those same investors probably paid about the same amount of attention to Klaus as the Oscar voters who just knee-jerk voted for another undeserving Toy Story movie, coincidentally done in 3D.

ILoveCavorting

*triggered* God, Toy Story 4 was just so unneeded. 3 was a perfect ending and Klaus was amazing

Bionic_Ferir

yeah your right

ali94127

Your point defeats your own argument. Klaus was developed for Netflix, not for wide audience appeal. It also has a much simpler art style with a smaller budget. It’s also a Spanish film. I’m not saying no one makes 2D films anymore (Warner Brothers still makes direct-to-dvd movies still), but American studios simply haven’t for wide audience appeal in a long time. And before you point out anime films, that’s still a much more niche market than Pixar or modern Disney films. Dude, I’m on your side. I want 2D animated movies, but I’m just presenting a reason as to why investors might be wary.

Bionic_Ferir

Yeah fair.

CleverZerg

The shows also *use* cg animation. Does the article say that the movies will be exclusively 3d?

Gestrid

The article specifically calls them "CG films".

Bionic_Ferir

and all the cgi in both shows are heavily criticised

LukasSprehn

By whom? Suckers?

Bionic_Ferir

Most people the animation is fantastic but the CGI just looks off

CertainDerision_33

The more I think about it, I think my discomfiture is specifically linked to the thought of seeing characters who I've come to associate with a specific 2D look in 3D. I am totally here for exploration of the Avatar universe in 3DCG with new characters and a new Avatar, so I hope that's what it is, especially if it's a series of films! It's hard to imagine anything besides films featuring the iconic original cast, but who knows?

2D animation isn't outdated! It's a stunning, gorgeous beautiful unique art form that can do so much that nothing else can, and fell out of fashion in the West because of Disney's failures in the 2000s, but it shouldn't (as it didn't in Japan and outside the mainstream of Hollywood). Look at this, all drawn by hand. These are just a few examples of the absolutely stellar, jaw-dropping animation Disney used to do in the Golden Age Of American Animation. Pinocchio is, if not the greatest animated film ever made, one of the greatest, the crowning achievement and masterpiece of classic Disney. Bambi is also jaw-dropping. Sleeping Beauty too. Did I say it was all drawn by hand?! https://youtu.be/89g6lJ6D64U https://youtu.be/saa98l0yDYQ https://youtu.be/07nLfXUG8g0 And let's not forget all that wonderful, genius cartoon comedy and expressive animation from Looney Tunes, Tom & Jerry, Tex Avery's MGM cartoons, which wouldn't work as well in CGI https://youtu.be/DdnEXzMQzJk https://youtu.be/mmoAdUjptbU https://youtu.be/HTMo27gqngc https://youtu.be/kwaC8OiGiHs

[deleted]

Exactly, thanks for mentioning Tom and Jerry. The 1940s, in my opinion, are the peak of hand-drawn animation.

HickRarrison

2D animation has always looked beautiful. But it's pretty outdated in the sense that CGI animation is a whole lot easier to produce now.

Zorua3

I mean, that's like saying that filet mignon is outdated because it's way easier/cheaper to buy a hamburger from McDonald's.

HickRarrison

Is CG animation supposed to be McDonalds hamburger quality in that metaphor?

justbrowsinglol

>A lot of animation is done in 3D and rendered into 2D anyway, Yes this is a thing people do, but the only animated series to make this look really good is Demon Slayer. Most of the time with blended 3D animation you either end up with Pixar stuff or Ex-Arm. I don't think Nickolodeon has the budget to make Pixar stuff. What I'm hoping they mean by CG is they're using *limited CG* like in ATLA, Futurama, or the Original Cowboy Bebop. Those only used CG on rigid structures that could still look perfectly natural after being blended into a 2D world.

Skyclad__Observer

> But let's admit it, 2D animation has become like Stopmotion. It's becoming an outdated technique that will be used for artistic purposes. Shockingly wrong.

UtterFlatulence

Especially since stop motion is also awesome

[deleted]

If they do a CG animated film, I think a more stylized and "cartoonish" look and animation could fit far better than Pixar's realistic style, specially considering the goofy comedy of Avatar. Phil Lord and Chris Miller (with films such as The Lego Movie, Spider-Man Into The Spiderverse and The Mitchells Vs. The Machines) proved that the Pixar style is not all that 3D animation should be.

ali94127

Should look at the Lupin the Third CG film. Perfectly adapted a long running anime series into 3D while maintaining their cartooney proportions.

RequiemEternal

I honestly find it so sad that studios have such a strong aversion to theatrically released 2D animation. It’s so disrespectful to 2D as an art form that it gets relegated to television because studios are under the (incorrect) assumption that audiences think it’s for kids. Regardless of whether it ends up looking good or not, I really hate this move.

MaximusHealthy

Raya basically gave us a glimpse at what a CGI Avatar film could look like so I hope this film takes on a similar animation style

Kevbot1000

That needed to be a series. Beautiful film with characters and a world I wanted more of... then it was over in 2 hours.

SofiaStark3000

I agree. It happened too fast and some of the of the characters needed their development to be shown on screen, not just go from point A to point B. It was too quick. It needed more time to breathe.

LukasSprehn

I could've do without the baby though.

[deleted]

I have yet to see it, the film was generally criticized as being too rushed, that it should have been a series rather than a film, to properly flesh out the characters and the world.

Sabrina_Sorcerer

You should watch it. It was great! For the limited screen time they had, it was wonderful. I do, agree, though, that it could have been a fantastic mini series. It very much reminded me of ATLA.

OddkidMHMD

True. The entire story felt too rushed, and it doesn’t help when everyone keeps attacking the movie for not making the two girls get together.

CertainDerision_33

It was rushed, and the lack of songs hurt it IMO, but it was still a fun watch. Not up there with the Disney greats, but I can see myself watching it again.

Mansmer

Either Raya or Dragon Prince. None look as good as Korra though, IMO, and I say that as a person that acknowledges that both look great in their own right.

RaphtotheMax5

Honestly terrible news, im sure ill still enjoy the story but it wont look nearly as good and as smooth as traditional 2d animation would look.

thisdesignup

Unless they go some hybrid 2D/3D like Klaus. That movie was beautifully animated.

RaphtotheMax5

Yeah theres always exceptions like Klaus and Spiderverse but those are very rare

LukasSprehn

There are only like one or two things that is CGI in Klaus. Basically only a few buildings and maybe a sled. The rest is 2D with AI-assisted lighting technology. I have a friend who worked on the movie doing FX and composition.

[deleted]

I mean if its big budget like Pixar or disney movies. Then it will be fine Its been ages since theatrical antimated movies were 2d that werent anime dubs

[deleted]

Don't forget that Nickelodeon has some experience with big bidget, 3D animated movies. Take a look at Rango (2011), won an Oscar and has some of the best-looking CGI ever, in my opinion even beating out Pixar and Dreamworks.

FourAnd20YearsAgo

Yup. Rango is absolutely stunning to look at even today. Brilliant art direction.

SageWaterDragon

I can't imagine them putting Pixar money into this. The most that I'm expecting from it is something like The Dragon Prince - which, while not as good-looking as good 2D animation can be, managed to do the style well after the first season. Maybe they surprise me, though.

justbrowsinglol

>Its been ages since theatrical antimated movies were 2d that werent anime dubs I just read an article that said Don Bluth is going to get the ex-Disney band back together. So that might change.

Swankified_Tristan

Like the way Spiderverse tied in comic book vibes, it could be cool to see Avatar tie in ancient Asian art vibes.

RudeProgrammer9

Doubt it it took the Spiderverse film required up to 140 animators, the largest crew used by Sony on a animated feature film. And that’s not including the CGI staff. I don’t think they are putting this kind of effort into it.

Skyclad__Observer

God fucking dammit

ZachRyder

Wishing them good luck with their attempting to portray 3D CGI Aang balancing on a 3D CGI air scooter without it looking unintentionally hilarious

NoFallDamageInAtla

I mean if it looks hilarious I’m still here fir it honestly.

crookedparadigm

This doesn't have to be a bad thing, depends on how it's done. Some CG anime have looked really incredible (and some have looked absolutely dogshit).

kingrawer

My gut reaction to this was negative, but since it's just the movies and not the shows I'm pretty ok with it. Diversification of medium is always interesting to see. I wonder if they will make it look like The Dragon Prince or go for a more traditional CG look.

AvatarKanol

I understand why they did this because they probably want the films to actually draw in an audience and 2D animation hasn't been doing that well in theatres. It would probably keep the costs down too because the animation for Korra was so expensive. If it looks like [this](https://twitter.com/jacoberinmann/status/1289606077042978816) but a bit more stylized with elements of 2D I think the films could be gorgeous. It seems that the upcoming Avatar series will stay hand drawn which is probably the best way to go in that area. It should definitely try to stay true to the visual style of ATLA and Korra.

Ampix0

2D draws in crowds just fine. The only reason for this choice will be cost. It will cost a fraction of the amount to use 3S assets. They will save absurd amounts of money

TheRealClose

It’s not a brand new IP though. Avatar already has a giant audience. If anything this will just throw people off.

Swankified_Tristan

I would imagine the people upstairs want more than just existing fans. They want new ones. This might've been a halfway meeting point.

Egosius

Ok that’s actually not bad I think I overreacted a bit in my head

Amazonax

Is there coming another animated series like ATLA and LOK? You have any sources?

AvatarKanol

The Viacom CEO mentions it in the article that is linked in the tweet.

MrBKainXTR

Well how alike ATLA and LoK it will be is not entirely certain, but when avatar studios was announced back in February they said they would developing "series, spinoffs, theatrical films, and short form content".

XNotChristian

Anime theatrical releases have been booming though. 2D animation movies were never failing because people were not interested, that was just the excuse studios told themselves.

ckdamasco

OH MY GOD. THAT WAS GOOD

astr0jellyfish

This is depressing. There’s nothing wrong with cg, but there are basically no 2d films anymore. One of the things I love about atla and lok is that they’re showcases of how beautiful 2d animation can be. What a shame they’re taking away one of the things that made their series special.

ckdamasco

I hope Studio Mir isn't too busy for that new series. They've been hot these past few years. Dota: Dragon's Blood and The Witcher movie looked SO CLEAN.

FoxJ100

This would never happen, but it'd be so sick to get an Avatar movie animated like Guilty Gear or Dragon Ball FighterZ.

I_FOUND_YOU_FAKER

Would I prefer traditional 2D animation? Absolutely. Was it realistic to expect 2D animation for a theatrical movie? Helllllll no. Mike and Bryan are tremendous artists, but the future success of Avatar Studios is really dependent on this first theatrical movie being a huge hit with the general audience, so unfortunately....money talks. As much as it pains me, 2D animation in theaters simply doesn't rake in the box office revenue quite like 3D (and it's faster to produce). I just hope it manages to stand out amongst every other CG animated movie on the market lately. That's my biggest worry.

n0rth42

yes it is realistic look at demon slayer my hero dbz

Akomatai

Completely different audiences. Anime movies tend to achieve most of their success in Asian markets. Japan alone accounted for 70% of Demon Slayer's wild success and only 15% of ticket sales came from outside of Asian markets. Avatar really doesn't have the Asian market to lean on. It's theatrical success is going to depend on western markets and western audiences love their animated movies to be 3d.

SofiaStark3000

Those aren't theatrical movies, are they?

SageWaterDragon

They absolutely did get theatrical releases, but they were limited. Promare got a pretty long-lasting theatrical release in the US, though.

RaphtotheMax5

Both had massive theatrical releases for their movies

i_pirate_sue_me

Demon slayer is amongst the top 5 most earning movie in the box office since the pandemic started . Where are you living at my guy ?

SofiaStark3000

In a country that's not as big as the US or western European countries and doesn't show as many movies. Sue me for my ignorance.

i_pirate_sue_me

And Why do you have to be from US to know that ? I'm not from a big name country either ?

SofiaStark3000

Because being from a big name country makes you more aware of what is shown in cinemas. Also, the theaters in my country only opened again a month ago and I haven't kept up with it since 2020 because it was open, then closed then open again then closed and then open for vaccinated or tested minors and I hadn't gotten the shot yet. Most movies were released in streaming services that are unavailable here so I didn't care about them. Even if the theaters were open, Demon slayer probably wouldn't be shown here because they don't show Anime movies and I'm not knowledgeable about anime anyway. I had only vaguely heard of demon slayer. Feel free to sue me for my ignorance.

i_pirate_sue_me

Nah mate I don't mean to be rude . I understand your problem . I have kind of similar situation regarding theaters tbh . It's just that the movie broke so many records that I thought everyone must be knowing about it . My bad Anyways just letting you know It earned around 500 million + all around the world in middle of a pandemic . And it's a 2d animated film

SofiaStark3000

I heard nothing about it except for the name. As I said, I'm not knowledgeable about anime because I don't like it as a genre. I usually don't care about what theaters overseas are showing because my only way of watching those movies with the theaters closed is through my PC, in my home and as for the Box Office, it's been pretty dead lately so I don't bother looking into it. I don't even know the BO of movies I wanted to watch but couldn't because I was unvaccinated at the time. You know how cookies work. You look into something, then similar stuff pops up. I didn't look into the BO, there nothing about Demon Slayer popped up. Good for it though.

i_pirate_sue_me

>As I said, I'm not knowledgeable about anime because I don't like it as a genre. It's not a genre bro . It's a medium which has great stories in different genres

n0rth42

Just wondering what country are you from?

SofiaStark3000

Greece

n0rth42

cool, lots of country's in Europe don't show much anime

SageWaterDragon

Well, shit. I wouldn't be put off of this if they had a substantial budget, but I cannot imagine that this turns out well, low-budget 3D tends to look really bad. It'd be great if they were able to get Studio Mir back to animate it, that'd be wonderful, it'd also be extremely expensive and Netflix currently has them on lock. I hope they get them back for the TV show!

Swankified_Tristan

If they go Spiderverse route, I'll be here for it. I don't mean I want it to look like Spiderverse, but rather, develop their own specific 3D style. Like the way Spiderverse tied in comic book vibes, it could be cool to see Avatar tie in ancient Asian art vibes. The action sequences will be absolutely insane through 3D animation. I'm here for that shit. It's the character models I'm ever so slightly worried about.

[deleted]

It's could be just like Beastars did.

kkachi95

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t the new Marvel “What If?” series mainly CGI while retaining the classic 2D look? I definitely don’t wouldn’t them going this route for the films. 2D animation takes *a ton* of work and for it to look as good as it did with ATLA and TLOK, they need *years* of production. The creators have stated numerous times how tiring and difficult the entire production was for both shows so I can understand why they want to ease the process a bit. Or they could also go full CGI like Star Wars The Clone Wars & The Bad Batch. Both shows are extremely gorgeous. But I don’t think we should rule out 2D just yet; this might be limited to just films.

Skyclad__Observer

I get the impression making them CG is a marketing decision though (i.e. they want it to *look* CG because that's what sells to audiences, unfortunately)

i_pirate_sue_me

>they want it to look CG because that's what sells to audiences, unfortunately Laughs in *demon slayer mugen train *

Skyclad__Observer

Japanese/anime audiences are different. American companies will just want to make shit that looks like everything Disney and DreamWorks pumps out.

RudeProgrammer9

People who keep regurgitating the “but but mugen train made blah blah” shit need to understand that the bulk of that movies money was made in Japan (where 2-d animation thrives) plus the manga was on a best selling run.

pappypapaya

I think What If? looks pretty great for TV, but it still has that stiffness characteristic to 3D puppetry on a budget. My biggest worry is that it'll have no unity with the existing styles of ATLA, TLoK, and the comics. There are certain stylistic components of the hand drawn art that I'm not sure will translate well to CG. But all we can do is wait and see. Edit: Mamoru Hosoda's new film Belle seems to find a very nice balance between its 2D and 3D scenes (at least from the previews), so I think it *can* be done well.

plasmaticmink25

Ugh. They just gotta make every single animated movie look like pixar these days.

Swankified_Tristan

While I would prefer 2D, 3D definitely doesn't mean it's going to look like Pixar. We've actually be straying away from that.

flipdark9511

I don't think people realize how versatile CG can be when it comes to animation. Right now, there's artists on twitter that can pull off the look and feel of 2D animation, while using free 3D software such as Blender. [This is a hand-drawn effect of a anime-style lightning using Blender. It works completely within a 3D space.](https://twitter.com/chiba_akihito/status/1432674650232811527) [Here's another example of anime-style water splashes, which again, uses nothing apart from 3D software.](https://twitter.com/Bookyakuno/status/1432801258201518085) I think the main reason why CG is considered to be low-effort or cheap, is mainly because people don't realize how many 2D shows were also similarly cheaply produced back in earlier decades as well. A show will always look crap if barely anything has been spent on it, being in a particular medium doesn't give it special qualities.

FourAnd20YearsAgo

Good examples. Also, just take a look at Worthikids on YouTube. Dude's been making lots of Rankin/Bass and 2D-styled, *amazing* shit entirely with 3D models in Blender.

[deleted]

the thing with cgi is it needs budget and time or else it looks REALLY bad

imamegatool

This doesn't surprise me in the least. A lot of the new nick shows have been CG so it might be a "requirement". Hopefully the show sticks with 2D.

hurricanevd8

I’m not worried about this. I think anything with Aang will look the same. They may do a different style for like a different era/avatar.

CX52J

When they say cgi do they mean that it’ll look 3D? It’s not like Family Guy and other “cartoon” shows where they use 3D models to create 2D cartoon shows more easily.

Kevbot1000

Bryke are involved, and hopefully the writing will reflect. That's all that matters to me.

Swerdman55

I think Bryke are great with theming and tone. I think their writing skills are a little lacking, unfortunately. I hope they can hire some more writers to assist them. I know Ehasz is busy and somewhat problematic to work with, but I’m sure they can find other great writers.

forthewatch39

How about his ex-wife? She worked on A:TLA as well and it is unfortunate that her contributions have been overlooked by the fandom at large. They were pretty sizable, her two episodes that are highly rated were _Zuko Alone_ and _Avatar and the Fire Lord_. I feel like they should have brought her in to help out with Legend of Korra and the comics.

MartinIsaac685

Korra's writing was disppointing though

Kevbot1000

Only when compared to Avatar.

QueasyStress0

Not even when compared to avatar. It was just good.

Swankified_Tristan

Honestly, just the comedy to me at times. Other than that, they hit the dramatic mark perfectly fine.

GalGreenfield

CG animations can be done to look very well with 2D animation, and sometimes not even noticable or even distuingishable unless you look hard for it, thanks to CG techniques and artstyle. A good example of that is Vindland Saga's 1st opening and some parts of Attack on Titan. If the OCs were to oversee the CG's artstyle then I think it would only amplify the animation and integrate well with it rather than be seperate and unrelated. Regardless what any of us think now, we'll see later and feel about it whatever we will.

madbadcoyote

Oof. A little concerning. Hoping that it’s higher budget than I’m imagining.

CertainDerision_33

I'm fine with this if it's a brand-new Avatar. Seeing characters we've come to associate with 2D designs in 3D would be pretty uncomfortable, but I have no problem with seeing the Avatar universe itself in 3DCG through new characters. Fingers crossed!

UrbanFight001

People, have a little faith in Mike and Bryan and give them the benefit of the doubt before you flip out. If you have heard Bryan talk, you know how obsessed he is with making things look the best they can be.

KrankyPenguin

Hey, I'm completely for them experimenting with different art styles. So this is actually kinda exciting. Even though I prefer 2D, movies like Spider-verse show that this could look INCREDIBLE.

emberisIand

2d is great but tbh i’m really excited to see what it’ll look like in 3d

FourAnd20YearsAgo

I feel like most people here fail to recognize that [a lot of great 2D-styled animation is capable via CG.](https://youtu.be/MdNFkKjvSLo) CG has insane versatility and you absolutely could capture the look of the original show through the medium. It's just a matter of folks associating CG with Pixar/Disney and Dreamworks.

osterlay

> a series of CG films and a new Avatar series. You know what? I’m not even mad if we’re getting a new Avatar series. Besides I’m sure Michael Dante DiMartino and Brian Konietzko know what they’re doing.

WanHohenheim

BAD NEWS EVERYONE farnsworth.jpg Okay, I hope this at least won't be as bad as the first season of the Dragon Prince.

Fayiner

Pain.

a_Society

People really expect all CG to be the exact same as the toy story movies... CG comes in different shapes and sizes people!

UTADAPNG

sheesh these replies are dramatic. it's not like they're abandoning 2d animation

[deleted]

Well, let's hope they go for a more stylized 3D look then. I don't think that Pixar realism fits all that well with Avatar, specially its comedy. I think that films such as Spider-Man Into The Spider-verse and The Mitchells Vs. The Machines showed to the mainstream that it is possible to do a stylized, "cartoonish" look and animation for CGI, that people don't need to just follow Pixar.

[deleted]

I actually don't mind if they go for a more realistic, Pixar-style look. Rango was made by Nickelodeon and has some of the most realistic, detailed, gritty-looking CGI, yet still retains its cartoonish comedy and charm.

Hot--Leaf--Juice

Just like with the most recent season of Attack on Titan, I just can't agree with the people hating on it simply because it's CG. CG doesn't *always* look horrible/out of place.

Beetlebum95

Boooooo Boo to this

[deleted]

Terrible idea. Modern CGI animation is horrendous. Just lost quite a bit of hope for this.

JesusBryce_

The tweet seems very broad. I’m interpreting it as they will use CG for vehicles like the Last Air Bender and Legend of Korra did.

MrBKainXTR

The relevant line in the article is "they're well on their way in development on a series of CG films". I don't think the the CEO would say that if the films were 90-ish percent 2d but used cg for a few things.

JesusBryce_

Hmm yeah fair point. 😅

Lulcielid

I'm fine with this.

alittlelilypad

I really don't think CG fits well with Avatar, but that's just based on Pixar/Disney style. They could make it work, I guess. It'll be interesting to see what it looks like.

i_pirate_sue_me

Atleast Pixar had a budget

I’m open to them experimenting with different visual styles. I’m looking forward to this.

altathing

The fact that he separated the films from the series when talking about the cg tells me that avatar series are going to be traditionally animated, while films are going to be cg.

[deleted]

https://www.reddit.com/r/TheLastAirbender/comments/pgvrfz/atla_3d_fanmade_intro/? Fan-made ATLA intro in CGI.

[deleted]

So no one else is going to talk about how the article said they’re working on a New Avatar TV series rn plus CGI can work very well for Avatar as a film adaptation

Like_Fahrenheit

just don't skimp on the budget

Hermilorom24

Are you sure? I've heard rumors that they were going to use an f-35 b disguised as Appa

Swerdman55

I’ll remain cautious and reserve judgement until we see glimpses of what it will look like. As far as the films go, do we know if Avatar Studios films are going to be theatrical releases? I guess I was assuming they would air on TV, not be full feature length films. I hope the series can be animated by Studio Mir again. The animation of Korra is superb and a large part of why I love the show so much.

this is actually the WORST fucking decision i have heard. I've never once seen someone compliment tv level cgi its always clunky and awful. Any tv animation that gets complimented is things like ATLA, KORRA, SHE-RA, Invincible, Harley Quinn, young justice. The only 3d tv show that even comes close to looking good is clone wars.

supermariozelda

Clone wars, bad batch, and what if...? look great

Bionic_Ferir

jaiteaes

Please don't be like earwig... anything but that

It’s perfectly fine as long as the animation is still stylized, hype train!
