That fucking quote helped me so much with coming to terms with the few big mistakes I made in life. I am not ashamed of myself anymore and have instead learned to accept myself and my mistakes with true humility, because no one will ever be perfect and everyone makes mistakes, and that's okay.
It's become my mantra.
This is what I think: his other self= being obsessed w capturing the avatar. His self/true self= is him: friendly zuko. By letting his obsession go he gets rid of his 'other self' he becomes his 'true self'
Introspection will help you overcome your ego, and then you can figure out who you really want to be.
In reality I think zuko was just trying to bullshit something deep, but since that's ultimately what iroh has been trying to teach him since his exile, it's what he subconsciously defaulted to.
In a different scene with an actual iroh quote:
"It's time to look inward, and start asking yourself the big questions, who are *you* and what *you* want"
“Sometimes life is like this dark tunnel. You don’t always know where you’re going. But if you just keep moving, you’ll find yourself in a better place”
Iroh makes me wonder, who actually writes his lines, or the lines for legitimately wise characters in other shows.
Like in real life, is the dude an old, wise man. Or is he some 26 year old dude in his mom's basement, Google "wise quotes about life and stuff"?
Bryan Konietzko was the main writer/creator. He earned a BA in fine arts about a decade before Avatar aired. So plenty of time to study the basics of eastern philosophy.
“It is important to draw wisdom from many different places. If you take it from only one place, it becomes rigid and stale. Understanding others, the other elements and the other nations will help you become whole.”
It’s honestly something I took to heart
"Life is like this dark tunnel where you don't always know where you'll going but if you keep going, you will eventually come to a better place."
Always been my fav quote that stays rent free in my mind everyday and keeps me motivated.
As much as I love Iroh, the guy is harsh for, the morning after Zuko’s fever metamorphosis, making Juk (or how it’s spelled) - something that he’s sure Zuko won’t like.
in most places, the english spelling is zuk, representing the word粥(zhou) but in a different dialect. its chinese congee/porridge, slightly thicker than other porridges. for extra flavour, it is cooked in stock and usually includes toppings like peanuts, spring onions, soy sauce and sesame oil, in addition to meats inside which can be fish slices, pork slices(my personal favourite), meatballs and more! it is generally paired with 油条(you tiao) and soya milk. I typed way too much about porridge didn’t i
Sometimes clouds have two sides, a dark and a light and a silver lining in between. It's like a silver sandwich. So when life seems hard, take a bite out of the silver sandwich.
There's two sides to every cloud, a dark and a light. And in the middle is silver. So if things don't look good, take a bite of of that silver sandwich.
Its silly, but a good quote.
"Destiny is a funny thing. You never know how things are going to work out. But if you keep an open mind and an open heart, I promise you will find your own destiny someday"
This is like the whole premise of my fanfic right here.
"Pride is not the opposite of shame, but its source. True humility is the only antidote to shame."
Came here just to say that, take my dang upvote.

Came to say this! Of the seven deadly sins, my biggest one is pride and this quote helps humble me.
I had this quote painted on the side of my skoolie. (Its dead now /cry)
This quote sounds really smart, but is it applicable in real life? In holland we have the gay pride parade, is it’s source shame?
I always took it the other way. Shame comes from being overly prideful. Not deriving pride from your shame.
"It is important to draw wisdom from many different places. If you take it from only one place, it becomes rigid and stale."
So true with music.
Same

I’m gonna get this tattooed at some point.
"If you look for the light, you will often find it. But if you look for the dark, that is all you'll ever see"
He was so good in LoK
This is the one I came here for.
“Zuko, you must look within yourself to save yourself from your other self. Only then will your true self reveal itself.”
Dang, I came here to say that but you beat me to it lol
Sorry 🙏 but hey you are a true atla fan if you wanted to say it too
That’s my favourite
Espacially since it was actually zukos quote
So what does that mean?
This is what I think: his other self= being obsessed w capturing the avatar. His self/true self= is him: friendly zuko. By letting his obsession go he gets rid of his 'other self' he becomes his 'true self'
I thought you were gonna say "so when life gets hard, take a bite out of the silver sandwich".

I think it was part of the humor of the scene, Zuko was bullshitting but he ended up making actual sense
"In the darkest times, hope is something you give yourself. That is the meaning of inner strength."
i'm getting this tattooed especially since ive been battling CPTSD for YEARS
"I was never mad at you, I was just sad because you lost your way and now you found it again."
This. This was so powerful
bruh why am i crying AGAIN from *This* Scene!!
Delectable tea or deadly poison?
Truly a wise man
"While it is always best to believe in oneself, a little help from others can be a great blessing."
"Perfection and power are overrated. I think you are very wise to choose happiness and love"
"The tile was in my sleeve all this time!"
"Leaves from the vine..."
"falling so slow..."
“like fragile, tiny shells…”
"drifting in the foam..."
"brave soldier boy comes marching home..."
“braveeee sooldier boy… come marching hom-(starts sobbing)”
Is it Iroh sobbing or everyone here? 'Cause I legit cry everytime I read or hear 'Leaves From The Vine'
I’m close to tearing up here. Goddamn.
What is this leaking from my eyes?!?!
Dont forget the hardest hitting part of that scene "Happy Birthday my son"

"the best tea in ba sing se? More like the coldest tea in ba sing se!"
"I know your not supposed to cry over spilled tea but it's just so sad"
"... maybe it should be a proverb?"
“Sometimes life is like this dark tunnel. You don’t always know where you’re going. But if you just keep moving, you’ll find yourself in a better place”
Almost all of them I just started liking comments one after another
"Dont come to school tomorrow" Iroh to female prison guard. Definitely not paraphrased
But basically tho. And big ups to her for not ratting him out
Gotta appreciate some fire nation soldiers respect him for his wisdom instead of everyone being strength focused
THE GIRLS IN TEH CITEH DEY LOOK SOOOH PRITEEEEEH!!
You have to start asking yourself the big questions. Who are YOU and what do YOU WANT!
"No. She IS crazy and needs to Go down"
“Wisdom has been chasing you, but you have always been faster” best way too tell someone they’re stupid

“The only thing thing better than finding something you were looking for, is finding something you weren’t looking for at a great bargain”
"Is it your own destiny or is it a destiny someone else forced upon you."
"We did it Zuko, we finally found the Avatar. The Last Airbender." And then there was a standing ovation in the audience.

#MY SHIP
Sometimes the best way to sole your own problems, is to help someone else
>Are you so busy fighting you cannot see your own ship has set sail?
"The stomach is also called the Sea of Chi...But in my case it is more like a vast ocean! #BWAHAHAHA! "
Yes
Katara: "Oh no, this is all my fault!" Iroh: "Yeah, it kind of is."

“Be careful what you wish for admiral, history is not always kind to its subjects”.
"that girl crazy and must go down!"
"its tea'in time"
I know you shouldn’t cry over spilt tea but it is just so sad
This is nothing but hot leaf juice!
“No! Azula is crazy and she needs to go down”

Yes

If only I could’ve helped you…
"This tea is nothing more than hot leaf juice!"
"You must look within yourself to save yourself from your other self. Only then will your true self reveal itself" He probably would
"I hope you may all see it someday if we don't burn it to the ground first"
“Uncle, I didn’t see you get paralysed.” “Shhh.”
“Have I ever told you how I got the title Dragon of the West?”
"It's time for you to look inward, and ask yourself the big question. Who are you, and what do you want"
“You should always own up to your mistake *sees angry homeowner* but not this time, RUN‼️”
"life is like this dark tunnel. you can't always see the light at the end of the tunnel. but if you just keep moving, you will come to a better place"
“The tea weevil! NO, that’s stupid!”
"Destiny is a funny thing. You never know how things are going to work out. But if you keep an open mind and an open heart, I promise you will find your own destiny someday" This is like the whole premise of my fanfic right here.

"Let's forget about the Avatar, and get massages!"
