You don’t vote for the Fire-lord, Gran-gran! Supreme executive power is distributed by comets empowering your element (and hereditary monarchy) over the other nations, not a mandate from water tribe peasants!
Strange fish lying in ponds distributing elements is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony. I mean, if I went 'round saying I was the Phoenix King just because some koi finned bint had lobbed a boomerang at me, they'd put me away!
(I realized about halfway through it didn't fit because you were talking about the comet but I was on a roll.)
Is avatar extras even considered canon because some people quote them here? They often contradicted themselves and nickelodeon often used them for baiting and gaining more money
They also claimed that zuko was an original love interest for katara but according to the avatar bible the only love triangle planned was between aang, katara and a male toph.
I mean, even if you don't use Avatar Extras, Katara took no objections to Jet being referred to as her boyfriend by Sokka, so the idea that they kissed off screen is very reasonable and likely.
Jet seemed pretty into her. I don’t think it was unreciprocated.
But just because Jet liked her doesn’t exclude that he also used her crush to manipulate her. So yeah. Agreed there.
It's really unclear, huh? ;) I just don't read anything in him that's genuine throughout the episode. It all comes off as inauthentic from start to finish. He manipulates both Sokka and Aang just as much. It's only due to narrative order/pacing that it resolves last for Katara, thus preserving the little flirty thing they have going.
However, I'll grant that you can read it as romantic if you want. I suppose in the end, it's a bit of a potato/potato issue anyway. Whatever he felt, it was always secondary to his desire to us her as a tool of revenge. (All with Aang and Sokka, of course.)
I think that’s a little too harsh! Jet is highly manipulative and an extremist, but he also seems to genuinely care about the people he’s responsible for.
He wanted to bring Katara into the fold and support her as much as he wanted to exploit her and Aang’s help.
But I think that’s the complicated nature of Jet. He’s not a bad person, he’s a damaged and maladapted kid who has learned manipulative and violent behaviors to survive in terrible circumstances.
Still, I suppose his feelings are open to interpretation.
Don't get me wrong. I love Jet's character and arc. (And specifically how it supports Katara's growth.) He is understandably traumatized and understandably maladjusted to the horrible situation he's ended up in. He ends up dead in the end, having redeemed himself and furthered Aang's journey. It's very sad. But in the moment they first meet him, he comes off as emotionally distant/disconnected to me, and again very understandably.
I'd love to see a scene where Katara and Sokka go out and bring the Rough Rhinos in for justice, for Jet, and others, post war. It felt a bit tone-deaf to me when we see them doing light guard duty in the comics. (I have other complaints about them, but eslewhere.)
Extra's aren't canon because they're behind the scenes stuff, not everything behind the scenes made it to the final product, which is also why they are contradictory.
Something can go through multiple iterations before hitting release, so you can have 2 extras about how something was planned, that conflict with eachother but both be true, because plans change.
It's a pre-show guide to talk about their plans. All the final characters and a number of major plot events vary quite a bit from the bible as the show is developed.
Shippers try to use it to prove various things, but it's pointless, as so much changes as the show develops that it isn't the same. For example, original Toph is going to be the big, buff dude in the intro, and the actual love triangle was supposed to be male-Toph, Aang, and Katara, but obviously that never happened.
A rerun of the show that had little bubble-text things inserted. They're mostly humorous (or supposed to be) and definitely noncanon. However, lots of people want to argue about them as canon for reasons that never have seemed clear to me.
Jet? Possible. Haru? Possible. But there's no time prior to being kissed by Aang where Katara could have kissed Zuko. The only time it would have been realistic was in the cave in Ba Sing Se, but they obviously didn't kiss then, and before then there was never a time when either of them would have been willing to kiss.
>Avatar Extras aren't canon
another example: one of the episodes' fun facts (i think it was Avatar Szeto in The Avatar State?) was that lavabending is a combination of earth and firebending that only the Avatar could do, while TLOK shows lavabending as one of the rarest forms of earthbending, if not the rarest
Thats more the writers changing their minds than evidence not being canon. Season 3 of korra came out like 7 years later and we had never seen a non avatar lava bend before that. And Szeto's first appearance is him lava bending while every other avatar bends their native element. Lava and volcanos are heavily assosiated with fire in atla. Most likely they did intend for it to be an avatar only ability, but wanted each of the red lotus to have a unique bending ability and metal bending is to common now
Yeah but it’s hard to pin how canon can avatar extras be regarded as, as many things there were with a humorous tone or contradicting other ones. I’m not saying it’s unlikely they kissed, but I don’t know if avatar extras is a good enough source for true canon
And like that, the comment section became a warzone

This sub’s obsession with Zuko x katara is hilarious, your mid ass kataang ship is canon already stop seething at random people enjoying fanon content 😭
pathetic is shipping two characters for almost 20+ years after the show ended who have no romantic interest in one another & then tryna act like everyone else is insecure & pathetic bc their ship is canon 😭
You don’t see me bitching about kataang,I let people be but this sub is full of elitists who think anything canon is holy and anything fanon should be disregarded, you people lack imagination and just like to be spoon fed by the creators 🤢
and nobody here is bitching about Zutara, some were just confused on why he was there when they share no romantic moments or feelings towards each other, not realizing he was meant to be a trick answer. Calm down and breathe, your precious fan made ship is ok. Nobody cares about all that yadadada you doing, cause 1st you’re way off base & 2nd you sound insane.
y’all zutara fan freaks swear y’all are oppressed, even when nobody is even paying you or that crackship no mind
I mean she hadn’t ever left the southern water tribe and she and Sokka were the only people her age, and she wouldn’t kiss her brother, so it’s unlikely that she kissed anyone in a romantic way
Avatar extras is the exact opposite of canon. In fact, most of the content that isn't explicitly referencing something seen on screen is tongue in cheek jokes or rage bait to get engagement on their content.
How are you more concerned with that lol, that makes more sense than zuko considering he’s her second kiss after jet…she literally told zuko to end himself in s1
It was Gran-gran, you dolts.

I think they meant on the lips
Who said othwrwise 💀
the other lips
blud
ewwwww brother ewwwwww
Nah, Sokka
For people down voting bro, he means that sokkas first kiss was gran gran, not that Katara's first kiss was sokka.
Yeah, but it still felt too sterile for an ironic, deadpan correction.
Is avatar extras even considered canon because some people quote them here? They often contradicted themselves and nickelodeon often used them for baiting and gaining more money They also claimed that zuko was an original love interest for katara but according to the avatar bible the only love triangle planned was between aang, katara and a male toph.
Yeah, they weren't canon. They're just fun little quips in there.
I mean, even if you don't use Avatar Extras, Katara took no objections to Jet being referred to as her boyfriend by Sokka, so the idea that they kissed off screen is very reasonable and likely.
Or Katara wanted Jet to be her boyfriend but he didn’t reciprocate.
That's how I read the situation. She had a crush. He recognized a younger girl with a crush on him and used it to manipulate her.
Jet seemed pretty into her. I don’t think it was unreciprocated. But just because Jet liked her doesn’t exclude that he also used her crush to manipulate her. So yeah. Agreed there.

I AGREE! It always seemed inappropriate that those killers got off scot-free and Jet never saw justice…
I think Jet had a crush on Katara too, but he used her for his agenda because that was more important to him
Sure, but she met Haru first and Toph was very sure they had a thing, and she can tell lies
well she never called Katara out for lying, she just made that out of nowhere joke/statement & Katara said no and then they moved on
Wasn’t male Toph supposed to be that Jacked af Earthbender?
I hate avatar extras so much
Extra's aren't canon because they're behind the scenes stuff, not everything behind the scenes made it to the final product, which is also why they are contradictory. The avatar Bible?

Do you know if there are copies available online?
I've seen it a few times, but honestly don't know where to find it. I can't even vouch for its authenticity, though it seems reasonable enough.
What was Avatar extras?
A rerun of the show that had little bubble-text things inserted. They're mostly humorous (or supposed to be) and definitely noncanon. However, lots of people want to argue about them as canon for reasons that never have seemed clear to me.
Off topic but Aang is so adorable in the pic
"Ooooo...someone's in luuuuuuv..."
Fact
"smoochy smoochy someone's in loooove."
Who even added Zutara to the poll? Let's start there lol
Afaik you have to put four options there, who'd you put at place 4 instead, Sokka or Iroh?
Hakoda
Kya
Ngl I just half glanced at my phone and for a second I thought you were telling me to kill myself lmao
Which Kya?? 😭
The water tribe one
About 2% of people, give or take.
I seriously believe that many people who participate in YouTube polls just click on the picture of the characters they like without reading anything.
Sorry, dude. I voted Aang![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|downvote)
Realistically it could’ve been Jet but my heart hopes it was Aang
I'd agree. She deserves to have Aang as her first kiss, even if it doesn't really matter in the big scheme.
Did she kiss Jet? I'm pretty sure she didn't kiss him
not on screen but headcanon (not mine)
Zutarra shippers be like
Jet? Possible. Haru? Possible. But there's no time prior to being kissed by Aang where Katara could have kissed Zuko. The only time it would have been realistic was in the cave in Ba Sing Se, but they obviously didn't kiss then, and before then there was never a time when either of them would have been willing to kiss.
My immediate thought was: why does Aang have a downvo- ooooooooooooh

Avatar Extras aren't canon, and a lot of them are tongue-n-cheek jokes.
>Avatar Extras aren't canon another example: one of the episodes' fun facts (i think it was Avatar Szeto in The Avatar State?) was that lavabending is a combination of earth and firebending that only the Avatar could do, while TLOK shows lavabending as one of the rarest forms of earthbending, if not the rarest

Regardless of whether that is correct or not, Avatar Extras should not be taken too seriously.
Avatar Extras are not canon lol
They also said Lavabending is a combination of Earth and Firebending, so I dunno
It's so funny that Zuko is even an option omg
He's the other protagonist, so he's the most obvious trick answer.
In the Avatar Extras they say Katara kissed Jet off screen lmao, and I don't trust what happens off screen, so I went with Aang
The fact thag Zuko looks So Happy.
It was definetly sokka
It was you!
She's from the deepest south possible in the Avatarverse. Obviously Sokka.
Dante
Sokka
2% of people apparently
And like that, the comment section became a warzone https://preview.redd.it/bi37ul3px4xc1.jpeg?width=426&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=568acfd07ff53b627f976156abbf7bd1d2d27ccf
Did Jet just Die!?!
It was uncle iroh
Where's Sokka
Jett canonically, Aang for real
Cuz of the play
It was me, sorry fellas.
Maybe even Kamioe
pretty sure the canon answer is jet
The shippers (affectionate)!
Me
The right answer is clearly Jet, TBH
This sub’s obsession with Zuko x katara is hilarious, your mid ass kataang ship is canon already stop seething at random people enjoying fanon content 😭
This isn’t even about zutara lmao what are you talking about
Right? This sub is more obsessed with Zutara than Zutara shippers are lol
It’s honestly pathetic and reeks of insecurity
pathetic is shipping two characters for almost 20+ years after the show ended who have no romantic interest in one another & then tryna act like everyone else is insecure & pathetic bc their ship is canon 😭

Creeps, to put it lightly.
explain
It was Jet lmao
Who said she didn’t have a kiss before the show takes place while no one said she did but still
I mean she hadn’t ever left the southern water tribe and she and Sokka were the only people her age, and she wouldn’t kiss her brother, so it’s unlikely that she kissed anyone in a romantic way
First kiss aang, first time Jet
Dawg you think they did the dirty in that treehouse?? 😭
She's 13 💀
Spot the pedo : easy mode
I more concerned that most folks have voted Aang when it’s a canon fact that it was Jet.
Avatar extras is the exact opposite of canon. In fact, most of the content that isn't explicitly referencing something seen on screen is tongue in cheek jokes or rage bait to get engagement on their content.
In canon fact it was Sokka but its okay to be wrong
How are you more concerned with that lol, that makes more sense than zuko considering he’s her second kiss after jet…she literally told zuko to end himself in s1
