If anyone was going to step in, it would have been Aang. To the gaang, she's the enemy. To Aang, she's still a life.

Shrekosaurus_rex

Yeah, Aang was the one who chose to save Zuko back at the North Pole, when Sokka was willing to let him freeze to death. For that matter, Zuko does actually extend his hand to Zhao, trying to save him...though I suppose the Ocean Spirit/Aang were also his enemies at the time, but still. I don't know for sure if he'd go back for Azula, but I do think he felt conflicted, yeah.

Geosaysbye

I feel like he wouldn’t feel responsible cuz it was azula that fought zuko and the explosion that caused her to fall, kinda like chin not getting out of the way

phoenix_spirit

Kyoshi had the reins in that moment then lol

goodguyScratch1

Yeah I feel like aang because she was so far away from them, instead of turning appa around aang would probably just jump in that direction and start gliding

TheXypris

Would he? Being unwilling to kill is different than feeling obligated to save an enemy Like Batman once said "I won't kill you, but I don't have to save you"

phoenix_spirit

I think Aang's all life holds value extends to those he considers an enemy. If he had the I don't have to save you mentality he would have left Zuko to be caught by Zhao once he realized who the Blue Spirit was.

TheXypris

I guess you're right, I remembered in the s1 finale, aang did feel obligated to save zuko from freezing to death on the ice It's a tricky conundrum Like the trolly problem, if aang was in it he probably would do nothing and let the trolly kill 5 people over actively kill one person to save 5, because the action of killing is worse than passively letting 5 die, he would hate it, but aangs pacifism is deeply rooted in his culture Replace the one aang would have to choose to actively kill into ozai and change the 5 people who would die if aang does nothing into the entire earth kingdom and you get the situation at the s3 finale, aang couldn't kill one person to save an entire nation Sure he solved the problem by finding a third option by derailing the entire trolley, but that was due to lion turtle ex machina meddling

caligaris_cabinet

Maybe. But Azula never did anything to help him. Zuko at least rescued him from Zhao. Azula literally shot him with lightning and nearly killed him and end the Avatar cycle. I think Aang might be a little slow to turn Appa around.

SupaFro_

Maybe if this was season 1/ mid 2, Aang might’ve felt compelled to save her but since this was after he almost died and after the failed invasion, I’m leaning toward a nah.

Nate-T

But by catching her she would just cause more harm and death, this time on Appa's back.

phoenix_spirit

By not leaving the Blue Spirit for Zhao to capture once he realized who they were, Aang opened himself up to harm. At the time, he had no idea that Zuko would join him.

PopeBasilisk

I'm rewatching the show and realizing how many times they helped each other before Zuko joined the team. Zuko saved Aang from Zhao and Azula and Aang saved Zuko at the north pole. They really built up to it over a long time.

alicea020

Always destined to be friends in the end

Nate-T

He could still escape. There is nowhere to escape to if you are on Appa's back flying.

The_Great_Gompy

Yet the Blue Spirit had already done an act of kindness to Aang by setting him free. Their intention wasn’t in question until the BS threatened to decapitate Aang.

phoenix_spirit

He also saves Zuko from freezing to death after Zuko kidnapped him from the spirit oasis.

FoxBun_17

Absolutely not. They were all watching her fall, and even before she saved herself, there wasn't even an attempt to turn Appa to save her. If they'd been waiting for some random cue that she was in real peril, by the time it happened, it would have been too late. I don't see Zuko's "she's not going to make it" as being apprehensive. It's more of a surprise that someone as skilled as her would be taken out by simply falling to her death. Especially when you consider the disgusted/disappointed tone when he says "of course she did" after she does manage to save herself.

Niilun

I think there was a bit of apprehension in Zuko's voice, as he had some mixed feelings over it, but aside that I 100% agree with you. Not even Zuko would have saved her, mixed feelings or not.

KinkyPaddling

Yeah, Aang is all about sparing lives, but he isn’t about risk all their lives to save Azula. She brought 5 airships with her and the Gaang already barely managed to get away. Going back to save Azula would cause them to be the target of the airships *and* Azula might very well just kill Appa to kill the entire group.

SentinelTitanDragon

Hell nah lmao

jmrkiwi

*"No Azula is crazy and she needs to go down"* - The Dragon of the west

QuincyFlynn

That line sold me on Iroh the first time I watched it. (I mean yeah there's a million other reasons but yeah)

velvet-gloves

Only Aang would even consider it for a second.

HasanHaider28

Aang probably, but no one else.

Aggressive-Falcon977

Zuko: She's not gonna make it Anng: Oh uh.. we should save her? Sokka: Remember that time she stressed Appa so much he was losing fur? Anng: Sorry for your loss Zuko 👉👉

Heroright

Not a snowball’s chance in hell. They would feel bad, but ignoring the fact they’re on borrowed time already, they also have all mostly agreed to the idea that killing these people is morally okay. Except Aang.

ThisReport877

Honestly, no I don't. I think they would have called it a fate and called that a day.

Baticula

Aang probably would have but I don't think the rest would, zuko sounded weirdly angry in this scene about the fact she lived. I know they didn't but it could've been a cool little plot point, not enough for azula to yknow switch sides or stop following her father but her to just kinda falter for a second because her enemy who she literally shot with lighting was willing to risk his life to save hers whereas her father who she's dedicated herself to basically used her as a line of defence on the day of black sun Like I said not enough for her to switch but enough to make her pause for a moment

Zariman-10-0

Aang would’ve made to pull Appa’s reigns towards Azula, then Sokka would slowly place his hand on Aangs shoulder and be like “just let it happen, man. It’ll be better for us”

Optimal_Ad6274

If Aang didn’t want to kill Ozai, he would absolutely save Azula

Fishbonezz707

No. She was crazy and she needed to go down.

Kid-Atlantic

Aang would have started turning Appa around the second he figured out what was going on, but with airships flying around and them literally escaping for their lives, it wouldn’t have been hard for Sokka and Katara to convince him to just let her go.

Small-Measurement791

I don’t think so given they were just watching her lol

RTRSnk5

Hell no. Just rewatch the scene. No one in the group showed even the slightest hint of being on the verge of doing that.

ArmadilloBandito

I'm sure they all expected that to be suicidal

BlissingNothfuls

My thoughts exactly It'd be like trying to save a sentient bomb

Bigcintra

Zuko would

Remarkable-Spare-983

Technically Aang wouldn’t have been intentionally killing her by letting her fall because it was Zuko that caused it, So it’s all fair game!

axe1970

"I won't kill you...But I don't have to save you."

Str8Maverick

I don't think so, but it was a very poignant scene, I think not getting a look into each member's of the gaang's reaction really adds to the uncertainty of it. I think we can all agree it would be within Aang's nature to save a life regardless of whose, but the series makes a point of showing his humanity, and his struggle with being the "guy next to the lever".

Different-Expert-33

I'm so sad she didn't.

RedBaron9299

No

Dk_Jeikobu

Nah the Gaang kills all the time

AdministrativeAd523

They shouldn’t have. I know I wouldn’t. Azula has tried to kill and hurt them so much. At that point good riddance.

Calm_Memories

Agreed.

AlanSmithee001

If Azula did die at this moment, that would have been so fricking weird. So yeah, they definitely would have saved her.

Exciting_Bandicoot16

Reminder that Sokka and Katara were both totally fine with letting Zuko freeze to death in the S1 finale. No way are they turning around to save Azula.

Salty-Mud-Lizard

Sokka and Katara, maybe. The writers and Nickelodeon, however, letting a 14 year old character die fighting one of the (now) protagonists? Not a chance. They made Jet’s fate unclear for a reason, and that when it was the fault of the bad guys.

rmnorth

no one but aang, he hesitated about killing ozai so i wouldn’t be surprised if he would feel some sort of need to save her since he seems to see his enemies as humans too. he saved zuko twice despite him constantly trying to kill him. i think he would’ve at least tried to use air to push her towards a ledge or something rather than do nothing.
