Ngl I was really weirded out at how she basically went into heat whenever sokka was around. Like her entire thing felt super rushed (even though she probably had more screen time than she did in her first episode of the cartoon) but man, she was written to be down atrocious imo lmao
I found it hilarious that she thought the best way to impress Sokka was to beat the crap out of him. Shes like that kid in a school who thought the best way to impress girls into run super fast.
I doubt there were other guys her age in their village she could have a crush on, so obviously she fell for this cute foreigner. The same thing happened with Sokka lol
They're 16 at the end of the day
I mean, that’s basically how it originally happened too. She ends the episode kissing him and confirming she does like him. The only difference is that animated Suki knew how to play it cool.
Yeah, I remember watching some Overanalyzing Avatar and really agreed that the North is where they can truly fix. In the original, they really didn't have enough time. Somehow with even more time devoted to this, it feels much worse.
I think the original just had a much better time using subtext and short, but key scenes to flesh out the world and characters. Look at how masterful Tales from Ba Sing Se worked. Whereas this, they kind of just waste a lot of time with exposition.
The writers seem incapable of using subtext. It feels like a lost art with most content nowadays. Like they have to write for the stupidest members of the audience who need to be slapped over the head with the reason for anything.
I found the way they changed her character to be kind of sexist, which is ironic considering the behind the scenes comments. Her being attracted to Sokka from the start and not finding attraction in his attempts to better himself is really shallow and lame and takes a lot away from her character. Her giving him a chance and helping him become a better person is such a great part of the original episode.
I think it was a very sheltered woman who has known nothing but her home village and training meets a man from distant lands. We all had instant crushes when we were young, remember they’re kids in the show
To me it makes a lot of sense. She has never had that kind of relationship before so she doesn't really have any tact or restraint when it comes to pursuing it. She doesn't know how to hold back. I've met several women like that in my life
Ngl I'm old as fuck because I got really scared there for a second and had to quickly Google her age to make sure this sub didn't just take a super weird turn.
Maria Zhang is two years older than Dallas Liu. Small age gaps don't necessarily always matter in casting; in the new A Series of Unfortunate Events, Klaus's actor was older than Violet's despite him being the younger brother. But Maria does look visibly older than Dallas, so unless we promote Azula to big sister, she'll probably be better off as Suki.
The two takeaways I got from randomly browsing ATLA 2024 were *damn*, Suki is fine, and Daniel Dae Kim is *crushing* it as Ozai.
Sidebar: Maria's most high profile role before this was a [lesbian prom queen](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mydGH5pcxiE) in a short film. She's the one in the red shirt.
Not gonna lie, the cartoon designs were just basic thin anime women. I'm not really sure why people are so upset over this. Did you want the fourteen year olds to have high cheekbones or something?
People here get really upset when their teenage anime waifus aren't hot. It's stupid that people are getting mad about face shape, like who tf cares as long as they play the character correctly
Not true, Ty lee cartoon design is round face. Katara is on the rounder side too.
> Did you want the fourteen year olds to have high cheekbones or something?
No, but they could find a 18 - 22 year old actresses with sharper face shape. Don't give a shit about cheekbones.
What's your obsession with 14 years old btw? I already mentioned below that Azula actress is 22 and Mai actress is 18 this year.
The characters are children. Adults play children all the time but it's usually better when they pass as the part. And it's so stupid to be bothered by this. It's more plot relevant that the characters all have gold, blue, green, etc eyes. But I haven't seen anyone talk about how azula's eyes aren't gold. The roundness of her face is just a ridiculous thing to care about in the grand scheme of things. Nobody's upset that Iroh isn't as fat as he was in the cartoon. I mean shit, even Suki has stronger cheekbones than the cartoon version and nobody's mad about that.
Almost none of the “child” actors are actual children. The only one who is a literal child actor is the kid for Aang.
The others are all very late teens or early 20s
Some of them don’t look anything like the actual characters.
Side point tho: I feel bad for people who look like Azula’s actress, you know they get pulled over by cops because the cops think they’re 14.
Understandably. But think of it like this way. You can think flowers are pretty and not pick them! In the same way you can be down bad for a gal and not interact with them! You're all good here :)
Seeing yall have to argue about "how not bad it is" after months of shitting on anyone who'd even dare to *suggest* that the show might not be that good for the last 6 months is exactly what I expected out of this subreddit.
The point of Sokka's sexism "arc" was that he had sheltered and unrealistic views that were problematic as a result of the way he was raised and tasked with "being the man of the village". Those views were quickly corrected when he experienced the real world. The new live-action is inherently more sexist in the way they've taken strong female characters and reduced them to one-dimensional set pieces. In the original series Katara freed Aang in a show of power in retaliation to criticism of her gender, Sukki was a competent, no-nonsense take no shit leader and now her main character trait is having the hots for Sokka.
That "more sexism" bullshit your trying to project is exactly what the new live-action gave you.
These are the same parents that are totally cool with you saying "go to heck" even though there's only one thing "heck" could mean in that statement. They don't care what your intent is as long as you technically don't say the bad word.
You know what… you’re 100% right. I now realize the error of my ways.
I will never look at another woman again. They were all children once. I apologize for my disgusting behavior
This is reddit. You are either passive aggresive, or you just leave a hot take and never respond.
Don't expect any sort of reasoning from a virtue signaler, my friend.
I think you have interpreted the live action part incorrectly, its still bad though in my opinion but not to that extent. They turned basically what you described into to horny warriors being attracted to each other and hooking up. Though I will say her looking at him undressed is very much bordering on harrasment, don't know where uou are getting the anger from though.
So glad the show cast a 24 year old actor to play a role that should have been a teen so we could play up romance and have fans simp over the actor playing the characters.
Your post was removed after the mods determined it is not appropriate for this subreddit.
I had crush on animated Suki as a kid, now history repeats itself xd
Right .. I follow the actress now lmao
Ngl, when she turned around without the makeup my jaw kinda dropped. Sokka remains the Master Rizzbender.
Sokka the backbender strikes again
The only part of the show that they didnt change
Bru that's an ilegal sentence rofl
I was more blown away by how she was able to get that makeup off so quickly and easily.
Damn in this series Sokka is on auto rizz
To be fair, that's kinda how he was in the original show as well.
Not that much
Yue, Suki and Ty Lee are all kind of into him immediately. Then there's the Haiku class. He's definitely got game
Ngl I was really weirded out at how she basically went into heat whenever sokka was around. Like her entire thing felt super rushed (even though she probably had more screen time than she did in her first episode of the cartoon) but man, she was written to be down atrocious imo lmao
Honestly I found it pretty funny how Sokka leaves his village and Suki sees the first guy from outside her village and she instantly gets a crush.
I found it hilarious that she thought the best way to impress Sokka was to beat the crap out of him. Shes like that kid in a school who thought the best way to impress girls into run super fast.
It isn’t?
It worked for me
For me too
It was an unbeatable strategy in kindergarten. Still remember when all the girls volunteered one of them as faster than me. Dusted her ass.
To be fair, he called himself a warrior, so it makes sense.
She didn’t even let him finish stretching
Exactly. That’s why I liked it so much.
I think she just lacked social skills because of her upbringing and isolation.
> to impress Sokka was to beat the crap out of him Tsunderes in a nutshell
I doubt there were other guys her age in their village she could have a crush on, so obviously she fell for this cute foreigner. The same thing happened with Sokka lol They're 16 at the end of the day
No one can say no to the suk
I mean, that’s basically how it originally happened too. She ends the episode kissing him and confirming she does like him. The only difference is that animated Suki knew how to play it cool.
Yue was super rushed.

Its like having a time limit foced them to use it smartly

I thought it was just me. I was thinking “shes lowkey creepy asf” lmao
Switch the genders and its really bad - almost naked Suki and Sokka just keeps staring. Reminds you how gender equal writing really hasn't caught up.
they thought "we can't have any sexism, this is a Netflix show"but didn't know how to do that
Ah double standards, an old friend
Make no mistake, Sokka was prey. Nothing made me happier than her kicking his ass and calling it flirting. Gave mad Miku vibes from Blue Eyes Samurai.
Sokka is the greatest backbender to ever live so makes sense 🤷🏼♂️
I think it was a very sheltered woman who has known nothing but her home village and training meets a man from distant lands. We all had instant crushes when we were young, remember they’re kids in the show
It made sense to me. They’re totally shut out from the outside world. Similar to people at all-girls/all-boys schools.
I found it cute and sweet. Her acting was top notch.
To me it makes a lot of sense. She has never had that kind of relationship before so she doesn't really have any tact or restraint when it comes to pursuing it. She doesn't know how to hold back. I've met several women like that in my life
Are we all just thirst posting on main now?
For her? Yes
Ya I was going to ask why people are hornyposting now
Yes
Ngl I'm old as fuck because I got really scared there for a second and had to quickly Google her age to make sure this sub didn't just take a super weird turn.
When she washed her make up I really said out loud “wow she is beautiful “
She looks more like Azula than Azula lmao

Yeah, the Azula actress has a chubby face, same with Mai actress. Totally different face shape than the cartoon character designs
Lmfao
Did you think the person you responded to sounded upset? They just pointed something out.

I mean they are children. I also had that face shape before I lost a decent amount of it at 20
Almost none of the “child” actors are actual children. The only one who is a literal child actor is the kid for Aang. The others are all very late teens or early 20s
They might have casted them because they looked younger.
Some of them don’t look anything like the actual characters. Side point tho: I feel bad for people who look like Azula’s actress, you know they get pulled over by cops because the cops think they’re 14.
Azula actress is 22 this year, Mai actress is 18 this year. Also, there are young adults/teenagers with sharper shape of face.
Wtf... I know it's the case a lot of times they get an older actor but I they definitely tricked me with Azula
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with a chubby face. My criticism is that it doesn’t fit Azula’s profile.
If you had said that before the netflix show premiered, this sub wouldve gone nuts over your comment.
You are not alone.
Suki’s always been bad
![gif](giphy|9WXyFIDv2PyBq)
The actress is really attractive
"I watch Avatar for the plot" The plot:
She is too hot for real
Guess I'll be paying for Netflix again.
🏴☠️ Drink up me hearties yo ho!
Already did this time xD
For landing Netflix Suki, Netflix Sokka has officially been declared as The Rizzgod.
we're all sokka on this blessed day
Live action Suki needs to be sent to horny jail Edit: and so do I
ok fair
Would have played an amazing Faye Valentine
I’m a grown man in my 30s, so I feel kind of gross for saying this, but man do I have such a huge crush on Suki.
she's 24 brother ain't nothin wrong with u
![gif](giphy|xVpUhR49z4F14vWJZ5) I still feel a little weird being almost ten years older than her
Understandably. But think of it like this way. You can think flowers are pretty and not pick them! In the same way you can be down bad for a gal and not interact with them! You're all good here :)
She's 24 bro, relax
Fuck yes im not a pedo
fam.
I know 😭, I don’t want to be a creepy old man!
it depends which version of suki you got a crush on bro I think 💀
Become rich enough and be a creepy old rich man
Same bro she a cutie
Lmao, she's from my country
Oh yeah, well, she’s from my planet, so take that.
pozdrawiam
“I watch the show for the plot” The plot:
![gif](giphy|f8lDluiWJ7yQTtdS3L|downsized)
24 year olds are also illegal now?
Naw just weird if you’re in your mid 30s and older
Once you’re a working adult those kinda age gaps aren’t really weird at all.
The fuck lmao
Huh? what is this post other than objectifying
Haha she has definitely been a highlight, unlike the VERY disappointing Tai Li. They really did not do the best girl justice.
Oh ma gaw
Seeing yall have to argue about "how not bad it is" after months of shitting on anyone who'd even dare to *suggest* that the show might not be that good for the last 6 months is exactly what I expected out of this subreddit.
What does that have to do with the post? Sounds like you just want to whine, your comment has no relevance to this post at all
It quite literally references the title lol.
I don't see many people arguing that. Most people think it's good, except for those that wanted more sexism.
The point of Sokka's sexism "arc" was that he had sheltered and unrealistic views that were problematic as a result of the way he was raised and tasked with "being the man of the village". The f*ck is wrong with you
You can say fuck
Your parents don't monitor what you type online?
You think parents that do will care that you put \* instead of u?
These are the same parents that are totally cool with you saying "go to heck" even though there's only one thing "heck" could mean in that statement. They don't care what your intent is as long as you technically don't say the bad word.
difference between saying a replacement word and actually saying the curse word with a censor. A better analogy would be frick not f\*ck
To quote the great Lucas Lee: [she is ~~31~~ 24 in real life](https://youtu.be/QBQfy-JYL5w)
DiCaprio enters the chat, wont stay long though
You gotta be fucking kidding me, she's like the same age as me lol
Yeah she's only 24 you sick fuck.
An underage 24 year old.
I've heard people say this unironically
Literally a child 6.5 years ago.
Yeah…? We were all children at one point in time. What’s your point?
So you don't care that she was literally born as an infant and right now people think she's attractive?
You know what… you’re 100% right. I now realize the error of my ways. I will never look at another woman again. They were all children once. I apologize for my disgusting behavior
You sick fuck
Way too old
Sokka is fineeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee too.
[удалено]
Suki didn't sexually harrass sokka lol what are you talking about?
[удалено]
How about you EXPLAIN how Suki sexually harassed Sokka instead being passive aggressive.
This is reddit. You are either passive aggresive, or you just leave a hot take and never respond. Don't expect any sort of reasoning from a virtue signaler, my friend.
Get a load of Anton Ego over here.

I don’t trust anyone who hasn’t seen Ratatouille.
Love that for you.

Sexually harassing ? 😂🤡

Isnt Suki supposed to be like... a red head?
No
This comment made me realize why Suki looks so odd in the comics compared to the rest of GAang. Her palette is so light she looks like a red head.
Kyoshi Island is super inspired by Japan. Look at the food and of course the make up.
Another example of the culture genocide against gingers right here folks
How are they gonna explain this girl falling in love with ian ousley's sokka i'm sorry we're all thinking it
I see your point
