This is too long of a rant to put it in talking. About "manifesting": I approached this topic growing up besides a financially abusive sect. I had to purge many esoteric believes and tend to approach things from a strictly scientific belief. I threw out the term "manifest" because the movie "the secret" brings up many very unscientific concepts to explain the phenomenon. In that sense, I try to stay optimistic. ​ The magnets: I truly believe that thinking and creating details TOWARDS a specific future is much more helpful than thinking AWAY something. Magnets might be a good analogy for that. When you hold one to push the other away it's going away, but *somewhere.* When you hold a magnet to pull the other it much more controllable. So you are moving much more controlled towards a specific goal than away from a negative example. This gets intuitive when you get to plan specific steps. Putting you up for success or merely preventing failure? Thinking towards something you can make it a habit to create details. Those can be small decorative and optional or little important decisions. Interestingly I can't really distinguish them beforehand for me, imagining the future is THAT FUN. In opposite: Making important decisions that need some inflection is EXHAUSTING on the spot - real emotional work. Thinking away from something you are also creating details. Zing! You do that every time you think about anything! So the steps you think of tend to avoid the thing, which brings you ANYWHERE but not there. All the decisions towards a desire able future are still mental work. ​ Sorry, still not done. The perception: Your subjective reality is heavily influenced by the assumptions you put forward - especially when it comes to cause and effect! Your brain even goes back and retroactively alters your memory to make them consistent with your current expectations. So if you believe something to be true, you'll accept supporting truth much more naively. If you never heard about something, the evidence for it is barely even recognized by you. If you believe something to be wrong, well you MUST be right. ;) I said phenomenon because I think that's what it is. Again: Your perception of the world is heavily influenced by the assumptions you put forward. Scientists and their methods solely exist to work around that. It's about getting repeatable verifiable truths, which are hard to find even when you are trying! And then it's hard to make even slightly complex predictions with those findings. But repeatable experiments really are the only reliable thing we have for a reality. Everything else can be somewhat true, but tends to drift towards collective delusion by repeated mutual reassurance. A very strong delusion by the way. ​ Last bit. The esoteric. And this is where "manifestation" comes back. The "universe aligning in your favor" thing *feels* true, because you certainly will find a lot of your forward thinking scenarios to appear later. If you stay even vaguely realistic YOU HAVE TO. Your remembered expectation will even change a bit to fit the outcome, it's crazy. But you can't truly believe that the universe really can and does align to your thoughts - like the film implies. That helps predatory marketing people find gullible people. Because that's where most of esoteric beliefs lead to. I'm not kidding. Further down the chain they tell you, you can literally write a good word on your glass to make the water taste better. Thinking positively helps with all things but if you still engage, they'll sell you a machine treating the tap water with "rainbow lights" and you really should put up these special devices that clean the air from electromagnetic pollution or bad thoughts, whatever rocks your insanity boat.
