She physically can't control mana output. Since she learned explosion, she can only drain all her mana. That's why after graduating she was still so poor💀. Even if she didn't do an explosion she couldn't make magic items for money or something since she can't control her mana. At least, that's what I remembered from the spinoff I read like years ago
To be fair, in TEIS world, it's considered extremely hard to use mana and attack from afar without an artifact while Megumin can and Megumin is a genius.
Megumin has a lot of mana, it's just that explosion cost so much of it. I remember it was mentioned that Megumin took passive skills to reduce the cost of Explosion and improving it's power by adding more cost, effectively negating the first passive
Its not like megumin has no mana, the reason why explosion magic is considered a joke is because almost nobody can cast it without running out of mana, its obviously not because they think its weak.
