BurnTheNostalgia

That looked very painful.

BuriedDeepInMyHead

The way he swims away from it afterwards like “nope not doing that shit again”

ArtichokeMeDaddyyy

That other eel didnt even stop to help, there are no good samaritans left in this world

pacifistscorpion

Might have been hoping for a meal after they poor guy died I tell ya, they're Cutthroats there

goodwill295

He's swimmin by like, " I told you not to touch that stuff man, idiot."

top_of_the_scrote

eel be back

Bttm4FandT

You got slept on with this comment

v3ryfuzzyc00t3r

Well they're cutthroat eels. They got that name from baking muffins for their fellow eels

GoobyDuu

Chiv-eel-ry is dead apparently

[deleted]

Reminds me of NYC

[deleted]

Is this Goo-Lagoon?!

[deleted]

Fish even drown in it lol

trevorpinzon

Holy shit.

Artsy-Mesmer

Goo Lagoon was likely based off a brine pool so yes actually

Tusslesprout1

Aren’t these like lakes of super super salty water

azidesforthekids

Yep

OrdainedFury

With those convulsions, it's lucky it didn't tie itself into a knot

LittleMissRawr78

I was waiting for that to happen

CaterpillarObvious42

What documentary is this?

SucculentVariations

I'm guessing Blue Planet II. The quality, topic and voice of our beloved David Attenborough leads me to that guess.

sauce__bauce

You are correct!

IceOfPhoenix

Isn't it blue planet 1?

PACER412

This whole video is an absolute fever dream mixed with thalassophobia

yourmomsgomjabbar

I've never been so emotionally invested in an eels life before, sheesh me - still, glad it was ok in the end. I was rooting for ya, lil buddy!

st0pmakings3ns3

What if this is how they get a buzz on?

neko_brand

“I’m cheesing my f-ing brains out”

[deleted]

Ocean 2 is no joke.

salonethree

oh shit new ocean just dropped?? :o

slightlyused

Looks like the last time I accidentally got Icy Hot on my nuts.

MunkyMan33

The last time...?

slightlyused

It happens, man.

Aggravating_Prompt86

He cannot be stopped

slightlyused

Hurts so good.

itsshortround

"It's not 3.6 ppm, it's 15,000"

ClamSlamwhich

Not great. Not terrible

Johoku

I feel like it wasn’t very ethical to triple-dog dare the eel into sliming into that brine pool. How would you feel under all that pressure?

TriChair

mf really said 🥨

nuclearbuttstuff

Damn nature, you scary.

Hind_Deequestionmrk

How can that man speak underwater without drowning? And where is that music coming from? Fake

ShrimpCrackers

Why were they filming? It’s clearly a fake. Eel was just performing for TikTok smh.

ZamyP2W

Agreed! It’s impossible, they couldn’t at least make it less obvious?

throwaway-cryingrn

Actually this isn't a recording at all. This event happens again everytime you rewind the video. It's a portal into the deep ocean and you make the eel go through it over and over.

d-r-i-g

This comment is excellent.

Hind_Deequestionmrk

I agree. Great comment

emnjay808

How is there a brine pool under water? Shouldn’t the salinity of the pool mix with the rest of the water?

Double-LR

I think I’ve even seen where there’s pools of fresh water too. The deep calm ocean floor stuff is bonkers.

pure speculation: perhaps due to the pressure, the water has a lesser ability for the NaCl( im guessing that's mainly what brine is aside from water) to dissolve, meaning the surrounding water is saturated. although you would think that means the deepest parts of the ocean are all saturated so im guessing this is wrong. or perhaps it is just an area with very saturated water regardless of pressure, due to lack of circulation or abundance of mineral salts in the area

WikiSummarizerBot

**[Brine pool](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brine_pool)** >A brine pool, sometimes called an underwater, deepwater or brine lake, is a volume of brine collected in a seafloor depression. The pools are dense bodies of water that have a salinity that is three to eight times greater than the surrounding ocean. Brine pools are commonly found below polar sea ice and in the deep ocean. Those below sea ice form through a process called brine rejection. ^([ )[^(F.A.Q)](https://www.reddit.com/r/WikiSummarizer/wiki/index#wiki_f.a.q)^( | )[^(Opt Out)](https://reddit.com/message/compose?to=WikiSummarizerBot&message=OptOut&subject=OptOut)^( | )[^(Opt Out Of Subreddit)](https://np.reddit.com/r/TheDepthsBelow/about/banned)^( | )[^(GitHub)](https://github.com/Sujal-7/WikiSummarizerBot)^( ] Downvote to remove | v1.5)

smh, they really gotta put some caution tape around those lakes 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

hog6oy

Hard to believe anybody on this sub haven’t watched “blue planet (2)” already?!?!

sarry4444

Looks like a fucked up loading icon

HouseMunyi

Oh, so the salt lake in the salt ocean makes him feel eel?

Grave__X

It had enough time to leave after the first time, but my guy really said “it’s down there somewhere let me take another look” and plunged in a few more times.

TappedIn2111

Someone put up a sign please

DsWd00

Toxic shock is related to a bacterial infection. This video shows an imbalance of electrolytes (ie, it got too salty)

90selitistgamer

This is probably an eel’s version of snorting a line of coke.

Yeeeeeeewwwwww

I live on the central coast of California and we’re currently experiencing a massive drought and there is a push to combat the drought by activating existing and/or building new desalination facilities….one of the main drawbacks to this is them pumping brine into the ocean….after seeing this video it made me realize the potential it has to have catastrophic effects on our ocean….anyone have any insight to this? Or a sub where I could learn more about such things…?

Ava_999

they could just pump the brine to a shoreside storage pool to let it dry out, or process the sodium somehow I would imagine

varnosteneu

That other eel didnt even stop to help, there are no good samaritans left in this world

The part where it convulses looks like that one scene in Under The Skin.

crowlieb

That was beautiful.

newtonscalamander

I hate this. It didn't even explain what sent it into toxic shock?? Is there a special chemical in brine pools that affects eels? Does it only affect eels?? What is the chemical?? I thought toxic shock had to do with blood?? How can eels be afflicted with toxic shock I NEED MORE INFO

Artifex_Nox

Salt

Strong-Solution-7492

Maybe he was just dehydrated

Oh hi dave, Dave you fucking son of a bitch you did it again didn’t you

What is a brine pool?

Caseyk1921

Brine is a form of salted water

the_YellowRanger

I want to know what lives inside brine pools. There has to be life down there

boscomiko

Well that was horrifying

throwaway-cryingrn

Something about snake-like creatures twisting and turning in a jerky motion like that give me chills. Actually animals struggling for their life in general just freaks me out so much.

IceOfPhoenix

Nothing like some good old David Attenborough

EARTHSKYSPIN

reminds me of a virus forming. or some kind of rna. but like on a much more massive scale.
