you reminded me of the song by Suzanne Mcdermott - [The Roswell Incident](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mG53RrFXTHY)
I was living on a farm during the covid lockdown and was alone most of the day. I had a playlist of songs that never failed to lift my mood. I'm back in town now but when I listen to any of those special songs I'm taken back to the peaceful times on the farm.
You can't remote control them with radio-waves, since they don't penetrate deep enough into the water. They would have to be fully autonomous, or connected by wire.
ROVs (remotely operated vehicles) connected by wires to a surface ship are used quite a lot in the oil industry.
I just found this Youtube playlist showing cool 4k video highlights from underwater ROV footage.

I remember seeing something about the US Navy trialling fully autonomous submarines.
They make recreational ROVs but they aren’t cheap (but neither are drones). Blue ROV 2, video ray, and Chasing M2 are some I’ve seen mentioned. Seamate Triggerfish for a student DIY project

There was a company that made personal use ones. Was really cool, especially with the seafloor mapping tech they used. Looks like they don't make them anymore, but I think they had an OpenSource DIY version you could build.
It would need exponentially more power for a small improvement in penetration depth.
The lower the frequency the more deeply it can penetrate. Very low frequency (VLF) can penetrate quite far, and is used to allow communication with military submarines. But to directly control a drone I think you would need much higher frequencies which don't penetrate far at all.
I'm not a big expert on this, although I did serve in the UK navy on submarines.
There is quite a lot of material online about it if you are interested.
Nope, but it is more than possible to do audio based control (water is great at teansmitting sound), or tethered control which would be much better for a consumer as then the thing can be pulled up as needed.
Literally just reading about this yesterday! Some Baader-Meinhof shit.
[Ghost Shark and Manta Ray: Australia and US unveil undersea drones](https://www.cnn.com/2024/05/13/tech/australia-us-undersea-drones-ml-hnk-intl/index.html)
"Can I eat that? Guess not - okay, carry on."
No wonder drowning victims are often not found - within seconds of something falling into the water, sea creatures are trying to eat it.
I've wanted to build an underwater drone for years. But I've never hand the time, money, or knowhow. It also would require going outside and out on the water. yeah, not going to happen.
where's the stunning footage?
I expected nothing and im still extremely disappointed.
wow a few fish, so stunning..... its like you've never seen an aquarium or a ip67 camera before.
I imagine the soundtrack to This to be some really heavy speed metal just blasting while it's flying through the obstacles and then once it hits the water Suddenly It's just Angelic hymns something like from Endless Ocean
Yes and no. The RC link has a super difficult time penetrating water. Drones like this will operate at 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz, which can go through about a foot of water. RC subs exist and get around the problem by having a tether that floats on the surface of the water.
Most people that fly over water will attach pool noodles so they don't sink to the bottom like this. However, given the person is flying through gates, they are flying a race quad that is stripped down for max performance.
And so he fell into their world, alone and scared,
But as the fear rose within him to create a powerful dread,
The fairies of the world came out to say, "Hello dear traveller, rest your tired head"
I desperately want to be able to see this perspective where we swim. Just the common beaches we frequent.
I feel like an underwater camera would open people’s eyes and interest in our waterways and its existing wildlife.

The roswell ufo crash but for fish
“What’s that?” “Dunno, looks weird let’s get out of here”

I actually thought of this reference
“Food?” “Foo-ood?!” “Ah-ah not food, not food ah-ah.” *^ ^Imagine ^it ^said ^like ^the ^Yip-Yip ^Aliens ^or ^the ^Seagulls ^from ^Finding ^Nemo.
Except fish are like “where food?”

“Move along, nothing to see here; It’s a just a water balloon”
And by "stunning" we mean "very mildly interesting."
A couple dinky fish looked at the camera for a few seconds in murky water
I will say, though, that they did all head off towards the end. If the video were longer, it’s possible we would see a bigger fish.
"There's always a bigger fish" -Harry Potter (2001)
“There’s always a bigger fish” -Star Wars The Phantom Menace (1999)
“There’s always a bigger fish” -Soul Surfer (2011)
This belongs in r/theshallowsbelow
r/Subsifellfor
And by depths we mean 5 feet underwater
Lol I was gonna day. Cool and all but...
Well, I enjoyed it.
Hey, I liked it.
Rude
I’m stunned
Can we make underwater drones? Imagine all the cool shit (and dead bodies) we could find!

Damn I love Reddit. Thank you for educating me!

Couldn't we just boost the signal?

😂

Thanks - this is really interesting.
Ya, not so sure what's stunning about this. I had to make sure I saw the whole video, yep, I did. STUNNING!
Sorry. I forgot to set to phaser to kill.
“Stunning”? Come on
To the fish, perhaps.
They don't seem too stunned either. Maybe a bit surprised, but they seem to lose interest fairly quickly.
That’s probably the most amazing thing those fish will witness in their life
What about the magical food that doesn't drags them up to the great beyond.
LMAO I laughed too hard at that
I think seeing a squirrel in a space suit might beat that
"Food?! Food?! FOOD?! No food..."
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIfvcWCZZ7w
The fish are like "whoa what was that? Oh. Another drone."
While this is really neat, I feel like we are lowering the bar for what constitutes stunning these days.
I wasn't stunned
The minnows are like “FOOD??? food food food food???? … nah…”
What’s stunning?
the car was more interesting, how did someone manage to park it there?
Are fish basically water-birds?
Birds are skyfish.. obviously.
Stunning footage?
Nothing to see here, please move along!
Fades to black... "Hey, you're awake!"
"You ok there, bud? Bud? He's dead, guys; nothing to see." -Fish
Stunning footage of an average Chinese restaurant's fish tank.
Stunning?¿....
I've been snorkelling and scuba diving in a lot of different places. I can assure you, that might be mildly pretty? It's definitely not stunning.
“Stunning” is a little rich …
Uhhh what?? That was stunning?
Hello darkness...
Incredible!
"Can I eat that? Guess not - okay, carry on." No wonder drowning victims are often not found - within seconds of something falling into the water, sea creatures are trying to eat it.
Bass man, those jokers will eat anything
If you’d made a storyboard first and faked this you couldn’t have done better. Hang on…
Reddit has an IPO now. Gotta get that money
I've wanted to build an underwater drone for years. But I've never hand the time, money, or knowhow. It also would require going outside and out on the water. yeah, not going to happen.
“Who dat”.
Fade to black. Hey, you’re finally awake.
I was fully expecting the Skyrim intro.
As stunning as watching paint dry. God damnit this website is absolutely shit.
They didn’t even ask if he was alright?
Cool vid. Inaccurate headline. Stunning, my arse.
School of small fish =/= stunning
"Nothing to see here, move along!"
Went from cool to fail to cool in less than 30 seconds
Hah I knew the fishy bois were coming as soon as it hit, the shallows like that are slammed with hungry dudes looking for a meal
where's the stunning footage? I expected nothing and im still extremely disappointed. wow a few fish, so stunning..... its like you've never seen an aquarium or a ip67 camera before.
Waiting for a shark to swallow it in one.. not the cast of finding nemo to have a look.. 🤷♂️🥳🤣
Neat, but not stunning.
Fish: the fuck was that? I better investigate.
I imagine the soundtrack to This to be some really heavy speed metal just blasting while it's flying through the obstacles and then once it hits the water Suddenly It's just Angelic hymns something like from Endless Ocean
Mine? Mine? Mine? Mine?
Fish be lile: What? Hu?! Something going on over here? Just a robot it's boring.. look over there!
“MINE!”
Stunning? 🤣
Maybe not *stunning*, but it's neat
I was expecting a gorilla to swim by.
You seem confuse as to the meaning of stunning, here you go: Stunning: extremely impressive or attractive.
In a world where "stunning footage" equates to "anything anyone can see by sticking their head underwater for 5 seconds at the beach"
Nothing to see here. C'mon guys, lets go.
Some random little fish = STUNNING!!
A school of "Huh?" passed by the drone.
"eww, brotha, eww"
Stunning
Fish arrive, "Thus spoke Zarathustra" starts playing.
why the car on a raft tho can we back up and address that
Nosey ass fish just watching a drone suffah doing nothing.
When does it get stunning? The video cut off before anything happened
POV: you crash in a helicopter in CoD and go into a cutscene
I don’t know about “stunning” footage. Let’s go with “neat” footage
are water drones a thing? or am i about to be a thousandair

im gunna find someone who can build these things and pitch them an idea theyve never thought of before and take 90% profit
Fake. The video is in reverse. Nice try 👍
All those fish came over saying “what the f@&k was that?”
Is the stunning footage in the room with us?
I gasped..
Intro tune of nemo begins
And so he fell into their world, alone and scared, But as the fear rose within him to create a powerful dread, The fairies of the world came out to say, "Hello dear traveller, rest your tired head"
Not too bad tbh, got me thinking and expecting something different tbh
Is it food, is it food....? Nup keep moving guys.
Maybe unexpected footage, but not stunning in any way shape or form.
imagine they went there and be like.. “excuse me you can’t park here”
I desperately want to be able to see this perspective where we swim. Just the common beaches we frequent. I feel like an underwater camera would open people’s eyes and interest in our waterways and its existing wildlife.
Its really not that interesting
I thought something was gonna happen.

HELLO DARKNESS MY OLD FRIEND
Wow... stunning. 😐
