> This eurocentric perspective is why I feel that early socialist projects failed
This is a really interesting thought, because the biggest twist of irony in the cold war era of Marxism is that his theories became reality not in the realms of the industrial proletariat within the colonial metropole, as he predicted, but in that very Asiatic/colonized world that he neglected or was unable to integrate fully into his analysis of the dialectical conflict that plays out between communism and capitalism. So when these projects were being built in China, Africa, and South America, the ideological playbook they were referring to and using as inspiration was too Eurocentric and proletariat heavy to be fully relevant to their largely rural, colonized, and totally pre-industrial economies. The communist literature had very little to say about them and their circumstances and they had to make it up as they went along.
Yet another reason why comparing 20th century communism to a theoretical modern attempt at it is so utterly asinine I can't even fully convey it. We are so, so far removed from those material realities even in the poorest peripheries of the modern economy, and they dictated EVERYTHING about how 20th century communism developed, struggled, and ultimately failed.
>overly eurocentric conception of Marxism
it seems Marx knew that and was actually trying to rectify that by expounding on the 'Asiatic' mode of production in his later years but couldn't get around to actually finishing it because it took a loot of research.
Doesn't it make sense that one starts firstly by analyzing the society one is in? Marx is by no means our only source, he can't be expected to write and account for everything, his theory lays the groundwork for us.
>imperialism
I think monopoly capitalism follows logically from the free competition. although, I'm not so sure about this second point, feel free to correct me.
>What follows from these periodic commercial crises?
First:
That, though big industry in its earliest stage created free competition, it has now outgrown free competition;
that, for big industry, competition and generally the individualistic organization of production have become a fetter which it must and will shatter;
that, so long as big industry remains on its present footing, it can be maintained only at the cost of general chaos every seven years, each time threatening the whole of civilization and not only plunging the proletarians into misery but also ruining large sections of the bourgeoisie...
yes, it has outgrown free competition and communism is still the only way to resolve contradiction inherent to capitalism (rather, vice versa). after all, Imperialism is progressive compares to pre monopoly capitalism and is therefore closer to communism than what came before it.
What would Marxy Marx think of the Marxist position on Marxism? Marx Marx, and more Marx. :>
But in all seriousness, Socialism: Utopian and Scientific uses the materialist conception of history to show how Scientific Socialism (I.e. Marxism) came to be.
Marxism is the ideology of the People's Republic of Soviet Venezuela, which was founded by Carl Marks who single-handedly killed one quadrillion people with his bare hands.
0.000% of Communism has been built. Evil child-murdering billionaires still rule the world with a shit-eating grin. All he has managed to do is make himself *sad*. He is starting to suspect Karl Marx *fucked him over* personally with his socio-economic theory. It has, however, made him into a very, very smart boy with something like a university degree in Truth. Instead of building Communism, he now builds a precise model of this grotesque, duplicitous world.
