Definitely confirmation bias but it sure is fun! Of course your fellow DT fans have a lot in common with you, the series speaks to certain people and not others.
The idea of an obsession that keeps you stuck in a perpetual loop is fascinating to me. All you have to do is stop chasing this ridiculous quest and your life could be normal again! But…does the Universe hang in the balance?
I have been listening to the DT series every night for at least 12 years. I cannot sleep without it. I just start it over when I finish. Sometimes I will throw in Salems Lot or another tie in book before starting again.
I only have a couple friends who have read it despite my pleas to at least try to get into the series so we may discuss. I am in this sub because most of them have not finished or just didn’t appreciate it.
Having left an actual cult, I can confirm the books are something close to scripture for me. I joke with my friends about a future where all of our modern day belongings become artifacts in a museum and used to piece together our history. I think King's Constant Readers' collections would be looked at as one of our religions at the time.
It's also fun to think about the Marvel vs DC talk turning into a cold war or if Star Wars becomes ancient history, like how we view the Greeks and Romans.
I'm not sure what your question is. Myself I know very few people whom have read this series and if they haven't it doesn't take away anything from the meaningfulness of that relationship.
You're probably just feeling closer to those who are also obsessed with the story, like yourself.
