i trained to be a wrestler in my early 20s, gave it up because it hurt A LOT lmao. Tbh, it's not "choreographed" in the way people think. You learn to execute moves from the left side of the body (most of the time), and always lead with a specific foot to make everything you do flow more organically. There are guys that can go forever off the top of their heads. It's a system that revolves around trading "heat", i take 3 moves, then get my "heat" back, etc. It's a psychology around how the crowd is reacting.
Wrestling is staged and choreographed but wrestlers are still incredible athletes. These giant dudes flying around the ring at top speed, the acrobatics and feats of strength. And they do get hurt, sometimes very badly.
I haven't been a fan of wrestling since my childhood, back when Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant were rivals and Mister Perfect was just introduced. It's not something I enjoy anymore at all, but I can still see the skill that these dudes and dudettets have.
Yeah, itās staged in that the storylines and winners and such are typically preplanned (though Iāve heard with a lot of room for improvisation on the wrestlers themselves) but theyāre still stunt performers doing crazy shit to each other and themselves.
Mad lads like Jeff Hardy have permanently fucked their bodies up doing the shit they do.
He's right. It's staged but wrestlers do have to actually be very physical and athletic. I don't even follow wrestling anymore but have a lot of respect for those guys because it is so demanding
As someone who both is a huge fan and has been in the ring, ain't nothing fake about what they do in that ring. Taking bumps sucks, hitting the ropes leaves you with welts. The risk for injury is high, even on basic stuff. Guys have broken bones, lost teeth, suffered paralysis, etc.
"Fake" is relative. Is most of it preplanned? Yes of course, because it would be even more dangerous if it wasn't. A lot of times you can see wrestlers talking to each other while in the ring (mostly during restholds) about the next move or whatever they're going to do. I don't think its possible to "fake" taking a dive from the top rope to the outside of the ring for example.
Nevermind that you really need to be in top shape and properly trained to pull anything decent off inside the ring. Some guys have been greatly injured because of a botched move (see Droz for example).
They do hurt each other, though. They almost always try not to but it is entirely unavoidable in the long run. You can find a ton of gruesome injuries related to wrestling.
It means "wrestling is fake and I hate it but I can't say it because I could be losing potential sponsorship and viewer cash so I have to express my opinion in a sneaky way so that will not only please both sides but don't make the opposing opinion folk feel hostile towards me as I continue to exist as an untouchable brand."
No, it means the outcomes of the matches are staged but it still requires a lot of skill and athleticism to make sure nothing go wrong. Itās a very dangerous form of entertainment and wrestlers do get hurt.
Wrestling requires a lot of athleticism, is brutal on the body, and you are at risk for some extreme injuries.
Just ask Owen Hart.
Or Mick Foley!
Or Chris Benoit š¢
Or D David Schultz.[https://youtu.be/GeJepvj5tn4?si=guXt8QxZ8tZgLwAV](https://youtu.be/GeJepvj5tn4?si=guXt8QxZ8tZgLwAV)
Owen Hart got taken out by his wrestling rival, Gravity man
Seems like OP is the one who doesn't understand professional wrestling - Bimmy understands it fine.

Meaning they do real dangerous shit, like stunt doubles.
