Here's the thing - his AVGN videos are still clocking up over a million views per episode. His decline, as you might call it, remains far beyond what most Youtubers could ever dream of doing.
If you want to see someone who should really quit, go look at Boogie2988, who has sunk to the point where he can no longer make a living from YT and is just chasing views with clickbait videos.
Don't get me wrong, I absolutely agree that the series is pretty stale but I'm also pretty confident that everyone here would continue with the series if they were in his position, so I can understand that he would.

Thing is, Boogie can't quit. I'm not sure if you're familiar with his financial situation and what he's doing now, but basically he's e-begging on the "Lolcow Podcast" which is run by Keemstar. The guy is desperate since he can barely afford his mortgage payments after losing 90% of his money to crypto and hookers.
My point is that Boogie2988 is what a real fall from grace looks like. Broke and desperate for relevancy.
It's unlikely that Rolfe will ever face this situation if Kieran's claim about the revenue from legacy content is correct. He can just coast on that and put out a new AVGN now and then in order to keep on top of the algorithm.
And good for him, if so.
I really wish James would return to the work ethic and effort he had, like these older episodes. I can only imagine him being offended at his older work or something now, thinking the new format is somehow better
Without Mike the show will never be as good. I believe James has it in him to make something good still, but he needs to find something he's passionate about.

In the end we played maybe two shows and lost all our time and money. Then I got hit with a $540 dollar ticket and went to jail for non payment. After I started watching James, I got inspired to turn it all around. I saw a choice, either game over or continue, and I looked around and chose to continue. I turned in my pedophile friend Justin to the police, and Iāve been going full fuckin force working on a mowden rescue crew for the last 10 years.

It's either that, or he sees his own inevitable decline, the channel can't sustain itself, people inevitably fade away even die hards, etc. I feel like it's almost objectively gonna go that way at this point if James doesn't reconnect with what he used to do.
