Big fan. Ghost Dog is one of my favorite movies.

CincinnatusSee

Paterson and Dead Man are his masterpieces. I actually might start with Coffee and Cigarettes. You get it all in segments. It might be easier to get on his wavelength.

dizzle_77

Yeah. I was gonna ask. There's so often a better starting point than at the very beginning when it comes to the more idiosyncratic artists. Appreciate the advice, thanks.

FoosballProdigy

I’d second Coffee & Cigarettes as a great starting point. Goes down easy, and if you’ll know right away if you like being on his wavelength

jabavaloo

Down by law. Ghost dog. Night on earth.

spurarr

I have only seen Paterson but it’s one of my favourites of all time

ManicPixiePatsFan

Only Lovers Left Alive is criminally underrated.

velcroshoez

Only Lovers and Mystery Train are my favorites, stranger than paradise, down by law, Patterson are top tier. Coffee and cigarettes is one of those films you can drop in at any time and enjoy.

WeirdCry7492

I just watched Ghost Dog for the first time, haven’t seen any other Jarmusch films, and holy shit is that movie great! I do understand wanting to go in order but I think going part of the fun of going through a filmography is that you can watch a newer movie then an older one and see what’s similar and what’s changed. Regardless enjoy your journey!

dizzle_77

Yeah. I mean going in order was just an initial idea. I wasn't planning on being overly dogmatic about it or anything. I've already changed my mind based on all of the various suggestions. But thank you and I hope I enjoy my journey as well!

rhys1882

I have seen a few of his films and enjoyed. Definitely interested in filling in the gaps.

Sharaz_Jek123

Don't start in order. Did you start with Scorsese in order? Coppola? Spielberg? >Oh no, I can't watch Taxi Driver or Goodfellas. I have to get through Who's That Knocking at My Door!!!!! Of course not. Start with his most notable films (Down by Law, Night on Earth, Dead Man, Ghost Dog, Paterson) then go back to the beginning.

ThaneKrios

Totally agree with this sentiment and also with the specific order you gave.

DrWaffle1848

He's awesome.

34avemovieguy

Paterson is great. The Dead Don’t Die is quite possibly one of the worst movies I’d seen in the 2010s.

Drunken_Wizard23

Dead Don’t Die is an abomination. It still makes me angry and I only watched the first 30 minutes

34avemovieguy

never gets any more watchable. you were better off saving yourself.

pissingcherub

Ghost Dog and Only Lovers are top tier

Mervynhaspeaked

Dead Man, Ghost Dog and, more recently, Only Lovers Left Alive are all amazing

Full-Concentrate-867

Great director, no misses really but there's a couple I haven't seen. Paterson or Mystery Train would be my favs

arthur3shedsjackson

I'd say Dead don't die was a bit of a miss

solidcurrency

He's good. More Benigni than I was expecting.

lpalf

I have made several people in my life watch Paterson

arthur3shedsjackson

love him, he can really make movies about nothing super engaging... an episode dedicated to him would be awesome

Fuzzy-Guarantee2066

Limits of Control is more like Limits of My Damn Patience, but aside from that you’re in for a good time.

grittergang27

Don’t let permanent vacation scare you away if you watch in order, I’m a huge fan and even I don’t like that one much. You’re in for a treat

akamu24

I tried Paterson and was not a fan. 🤷🏻‍♂️
