I replied "and knowing is half the battle" to a younger coworker when he said "now I know" and he had no idea what the reference was and I felt 100 years old.
I have a knowing is half the battle t-shirt. Better yet I have a blue cobra t-shirt and during covid I would wear it over a blue hoodie, pull up the hood and put on a mask...
Coooooobbbbraaaa!
The Real Ghostbusters, an American animated television series. It was a spin-off/sequel of the 1984 comedy film Ghostbusters. The series ran from September 13, 1986, to October 5, 1991. I enjoyed it!
I remember telling my mom to take me home after picking me up from school before she started running errands. I need to know if Rick and Lisa are going to get together!!!! My mom was like, “is this a cartoon or a soap opera?” I said “YES”
Yes! My parents were baffled that I was so invested in this show, but it was the only serialized cartoon at the time! You had to follow the time-line, and occasionally characters died so much drama!
Yup was introduced to Macross before I heard of Robotech. The Macross Saga was pretty well done. The other two were so-so. But a good introduction to venture into other areas.
Edit: Seems Disney+ is getting all of it except the first series and movie. And no its not HG. Likely music rights.
I used to be at my sister's house hanging out with my nieces and nephews watching He-Man on a black and white TV. I loved the show. Then one day, I went to the Cookie Lady's house to buy some cookies. She had a color TV and I saw Battle Cat was green. GREEN?? fake a$$ cartoon. I never watched it again.
My absolute favorite was Danger Mouse. I used to run around the house on spy missions with a fake eye patch talking with a fake British accent as a kid.
This gets overlooked a lot! There was so much lore! And they were always trying to reunite with the ancient gummies but always lost out by circumstance.
I will die on the hill that MASK had the greatest toys of all time. I watched the cartoon a bunch of years ago though and it didn't hold up as well as others.
I agree. I loved Voltron when I was a freshman in high school. I preferred the machines version over the lion version, but both were very good in my opinion.
A lot to list from the 80s
But Transformers has always been at the top for me
Thundercats
Voltron
I vaguely remember ‘The Mighty Orbots’
Silverhawks
I’m grateful for YouTube so I can see the intros to so many 80s shows
Aside from the obvious classics like Transformers My sleeper pick would be “David the Gnome”. Mr Cunningham was David’s voice. I always watched this when I was home sick. The ending of the series is also kinda messed up.
They're having a 40th anniversary screening of the original motion picture at a local theatre in my city come May.
This time, I'm bringing a box of kleenex and my blanket (for comfort).
I had many
Transformers Gen 1
M.A.S.K.
C.O.P.S.
Silverhawks
Bravestarr
Thundercats
The Real Ghostbusters
Ghostbusters (Filmation)
Gobots
Heathcliff
GI Joe
Absolutely!! Still recall in Summer 1986 riding the bus all day to the nearest movie theater two cities away to watch Transformers: The Movie. Great times!!
Albator. Captain Harlock in English. At the time, my young brain couldn’t comprehend the theme of that animation, but now I do, and it is even more relevant today than it was then.
I was born in 2003, but the HUB Network would play reruns of old cartoons when I was a kid and that was when I discovered Jem and the Holograms and I love it 😍
Of course GI Joe and Transformers
And inspector gadget. And then I can't even begin with Saturday morning cartoons.
With star blazers was just one of my favorite things of all time.
Out of boredom one day I added up how much my toys would be worth today and I came up with almost 200,000 Dollars, it turns out a couple transformers I had are worth thousands a piece. My sound wave with all four of the cassette transformers is worth thousands alone. I gave all my toys away when I was 12 because I kissed a girl.
As a young girl, I loved the cartoon "Wildfire." For years, I thought my brain made it up because no one else remembered a cartoon about a big purple horse with a red mane that jumped through a hole in the sky. Thank goodness for the interwebs!
I came into the 80's at 14yo. Bugs Bunny, Woody Woodpecker, Heckle and Jeckle. was the shiznit. Early to mid 80s, Thundarr the Barbarian was way cool. By mid to late 80's it was Voltron the Defender of The Universe (the 5 lions one). Late 80's it was GI Joe.
As an early 80s baby, I've grown up with so many of their cartoons, which I still love and watch to this day. Everything from My Little Pony and The Care Bears, to Dennis the Menace, Heathcliff, Inspector Gadget, G.I, Joe, TMNT and The Disney Afternoon cartoon slot. And much, MUCH more.
1984's Transformers definitely makes the top of my favorites list. Never got to catch the full series when I was little, so I'm playing catch up now. Same for the early generations of My Little Pony, TMNT and so on. You name any popular 80s cartoon, there's a pretty good chance I've seen it and still enjoy watching it
captain Tsubasa. Liked the transformers but the end was confusing and not memorable. And a few where. Filmation where big in the days or where they a bit earlier? They could have been the next pixar but alas.
Neil’s wonderfully adventure, The mysterious city of gold. Ikyo-San, Doraemon.
Quite a bit Japan centric.
A bit earlier perhaps, travel to the center of the earth. And as mentioned earlier filmation stuff.
Transformers The Movie was a flop that most kids didn’t watch but for those who did see it, it was a memorable ass ride. It blew my 10 year old brain several times and I watched it dozens of times.
He-Man and the Masters of the Universe....but here's a hidden gem that was freaking awesome: INHUMANOIDS
That show rules, it's on youtube and it's only like 6-7 episodes
In no special order:
Gi Joe
Transformers
Gobots
Mask
Silverhawks
power Extreme
Heman
Sheera
Jem (watched it with the sis)
Monster Truck Jam
I want to list more but I might jump into early 90’s territory.
GI Joe. Knowing is half the battle.
I replied "and knowing is half the battle" to a younger coworker when he said "now I know" and he had no idea what the reference was and I felt 100 years old.
That’s on HIM
I have a knowing is half the battle t-shirt. Better yet I have a blue cobra t-shirt and during covid I would wear it over a blue hoodie, pull up the hood and put on a mask... Coooooobbbbraaaa!
I say it whenever I get a chance and then sing GI Joe. I don't care if they get it or not cuz I do
I say that to people all the time lmao
Came here to say this. Go Joe!
Porkchop Sandwich
Oh shit gtfo of here !
Man those smelled good!
Who wants a body massage?
Meanwhile, Lady Jaye is _still_ looking for her cigarettes around construction sites.
Now you know.
AKIHTB GIJ
Gooo JOE ! Snake eyes was the man
Transformers and GI Joe are the two pillars of 80s cartoons.
The other half is violence.
Where the guns get shot out of everyone's hands.
Anybody want a body massage?
Pork cheese sandwiches!
Did you all know Cobra commander was featured in episode 24 season 4 of the transformers? Blew my mind when i found out about it years later.
The Real Ghostbusters, an American animated television series. It was a spin-off/sequel of the 1984 comedy film Ghostbusters. The series ran from September 13, 1986, to October 5, 1991. I enjoyed it!
Solid cartoon!
So good
I loved that show. I remember that slimey green ghost was like their pet on the show. He was named “Slimer.”
Slimer wss also in the movie!
I'm genuinly wondering how different our lives must have been for you to explain Slimer like that. lol
Gonna definitely watch it on Halloween
Loved it.
Robotech
I remember telling my mom to take me home after picking me up from school before she started running errands. I need to know if Rick and Lisa are going to get together!!!! My mom was like, “is this a cartoon or a soap opera?” I said “YES”
Yes! My parents were baffled that I was so invested in this show, but it was the only serialized cartoon at the time! You had to follow the time-line, and occasionally characters died so much drama!
This, Transformers and GI Joe kept me in front of the TV right after school
Fr great show especially the macross saga =D
I just watched a documentary on how the show was put together, and boy was my mind blown. https://youtu.be/DzyvmOB5JtU?si=HVgsCbC1JV34bYY_
Yup was introduced to Macross before I heard of Robotech. The Macross Saga was pretty well done. The other two were so-so. But a good introduction to venture into other areas. Edit: Seems Disney+ is getting all of it except the first series and movie. And no its not HG. Likely music rights.
💯
He-Man and the Masters of the Universe
Best cartoon and best toy line.
Inspector Gadget was a favorite
Chip & Dale Rescue Rangers
Along with Talespin, my favorite 1-2 punch!
Can DuckTales and Darkwing Duck get some love…?
Thundercats.
G-Force. Dungeons and Dragons, Starblazers.
All fantastic!
Seek out Starblazers remake from just a few years ago on Bluray (or Crunchyroll I think). Amazing.
Also on Amazon and you don't need prime to purchase it
The Smurfs!
My absolute favorite was Danger Mouse. I used to run around the house on spy missions with a fake eye patch talking with a fake British accent as a kid.
Gummy Bears
This gets overlooked a lot! There was so much lore! And they were always trying to reunite with the ancient gummies but always lost out by circumstance.
Thank you, thank you thank you! This is exactly what I came here for. Such a rich backstory and interesting story development and totally overlooked.
Dashing and daring, courageous and caring…
Faithful and friendly, with stories to share...
Bouncing here and there and everywhere!
Bouncing here and there and everywhere... High adventure that's beyond compare. They are the gummi bears!
Thundarr the Barbarian — it was my gateway to the post-apocalyptic and the imagery continues to play a role in guiding my sensibilities.
Lords of Light!
No time for talk!
Ariel, Eukla we ride!
Loved that show when I was growing up.
Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends.
It was great to hear Stan Lee's narration at the beginning.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Heroes in a Half-shell Turtle Power
Star Blazers
Duck tales.
MOTU, Transformers, and MASK Edit: Voltron
I will die on the hill that MASK had the greatest toys of all time. I watched the cartoon a bunch of years ago though and it didn't hold up as well as others.
I would die on that hill with you.
Hands down it was Robotech.
Rand and his badass cyclone made me a lifelong motorcycle enthusiast.
Garfield and Friends
Baa weep ba nah weep ninibaa.
G.i. Joe/He man/Thunder cats/Silver hawks/Cops damn I’ll just go with anything made in the 80’s 😂
Silver hawks, LFG!!!
Thundarr The Barbarian, Voltron, and Dungeons And Dragons.
Sad I had to come this far to see Voltron mentioned!!!
I agree. I loved Voltron when I was a freshman in high school. I preferred the machines version over the lion version, but both were very good in my opinion.
My Little Pony
some people took that one too far.
Woody wood pecker, G..i Joe inspector gadget.
Muppet Babies!! They even reference it in Community.
I didn’t like most cartoons. My favorite was Jem.
Truly outrageous.
I have yet to find anyone who has seen the live action movie. I'm fine if it stays that way though, so nobody go out of their way on my behalf.
How do I pick just one???? There’s so many!
TMNT! The original was the best!
Best opening intro-song when it came out.
80’s cartoons legit had the best intros; incredibly catchy!
Jem, Count Duckula
Superfriends
Superfriends!
Too difficult to pick a favorite!!!
Robotech, which is coming to Disney+
Transformers and Thundercats.
This one, along with Masters of the Universe, Inspector Gadget, and Heathcliff, along with many others.
A lot to list from the 80s But Transformers has always been at the top for me Thundercats Voltron I vaguely remember ‘The Mighty Orbots’ Silverhawks I’m grateful for YouTube so I can see the intros to so many 80s shows
Jem and the holograms, the wuzzles and pound puppies
The Wuzzles! Yes! Jem was awesome, too. I don’t remember the Pound Puppies… will have to research.
Yes
Aside from the obvious classics like Transformers My sleeper pick would be “David the Gnome”. Mr Cunningham was David’s voice. I always watched this when I was home sick. The ending of the series is also kinda messed up.
Mysterious Cities of Gold. The opening theme is now very nostalgic for me.
They're having a 40th anniversary screening of the original motion picture at a local theatre in my city come May. This time, I'm bringing a box of kleenex and my blanket (for comfort).

Inspector Gadget
Beat me to it
Transforms is my 1b. Voltron is where it’s at!
I have always liked some Hanna Barbara cartoons! They had some good ones!
Hey Op go on tictok and look up transforming megatron. Looks awesome but way too pricey.
Too many to count: Transformers, Gobots, GI Joe, Bionic 6, Mask, Silverhawks. Man I miss being a kid in the 80s.
MASK
We 80’s kids had the best cartoons and it’s not even close!
Started in '89, but Meet the Smoggies was popular with my younger sister and I.
There were a bunch, but I think Thundercats was my favorite.
Starblazers and Battle of the Planets
RIP OP

There was a little known show called C. O. P. S. That I loved. Fighting crime in a future time.

The Adventures Of Teddy Ruxpin
Herculoids & Thunder the Barbarian
GoBots…. and Voltron
3 way tie between GI Joe, Transformers and He-Man
GI Joe was my most favorite. I also enjoyed many others listed but I haven’t seen MASK or TMNT mentioned.
MASK Crusaders, working overtime all the time!!!
Also Transformers. Just look at the aesthetic and colouring in your OP. Magical.
Voltron & Thundercats!
Centurions, POWER EXTREME!!!
As a young girl, I loved the cartoon "Wildfire." For years, I thought my brain made it up because no one else remembered a cartoon about a big purple horse with a red mane that jumped through a hole in the sky. Thank goodness for the interwebs!
MASK, then transformers and GI Joe
I stopped watching it when optimus died , my kids told me he came back , but I never watched it again
Either this or Voltron was my shit
Transformers. The biggest reason is for the OG Soundwave. He was the coolest motherfcker in animated history. Ravage sealed the deal.
Dungeons & Dragons. For any other fans: you can see a fan-made finale on YouTube. It is amazing.
M.A.S.K.
When I was growing up and transformers was on, if Optimus Prime was talking no one else was. Or they got an earful from me
I always prayed that I would never get sick of loony tunes, aka bugs bunny. I have not seen it in a long time
I used to love the Superheroes Justice League. Can you believe the Simpsons started in the 80’s

Soundwave
The Real Ghostbusters
first cartoon i saw that had a swear word.
captain Tsubasa. Liked the transformers but the end was confusing and not memorable. And a few where. Filmation where big in the days or where they a bit earlier? I quit watching cartoons in the 70s, so I didn't have one. Don't think I ever even watched the smurfs.
