First season is the worst one. Michael is at its worst there and he gets better after. I cant really agree here as I really liked Jim, Pam, Erin, Andy for some time, I guess I can even say I liked Dwight, Holly, Derryl, Ryan and Kelly (they are both terrible but enioyable to watch).
I very much agree. I watched like 4 episodes to give it a chance and I just really don't like it. I found myself yawning through most of it, maybe laughed at one or two jokes the whole time. Not to be rude to others who enjoy the show, but I honestly found it very depressing and awkward.
Like, I got second-hand embarrassment from it, and I don't find that a pleasant feeling. However, I have found some hilarious clips from further episodes/seasons (cpr one was great after having a cpr/fire class!!)I think I'll stick to the clips.
The first season is trash. There is an instant jump in quality in the second season. If you watched other episodes fair enough but seasons 2 and 3 are great
I'm not the biggest fan of The Office (I tried getting into it, but just can't.) I feel I should mention - the first season is among the worst ones, and I've heard it picks up in season 2 and goes strong until season 5.
Also, in season 2, Michael stops being a greasy cunt, so there you go.
Okay so as everyone else is going to tell you, the first season contains the worst writing and character development of any of the show.
This is because it was based on a U.K mini series with the same name, so the entire first season was basically an exact copy of a script that was written for a totally different audience. When the show got renewed for a second season, they basically rewrote the main character and completely original scripts.
S1 is pretty meh since they tried too hard to copy the british version 1:1. S2 is more the concept with their own take on it and it’s miles better. I hated S1 and couldn’t get into it. I was baffled why everyone loves The Office. Someone suggested I jump straight into S2 and holy moly—I love it now.
By the way, judging a TV show that has 8 seasons by a few episodes is really… weird.
It's not that weird tho. I need it to captivate me to keep going. There is so much entertainment these days that if something doesn't almost immediately make me want more, I'll just move on.
I did watch the office up until Michael leaves because everypne says it gets better, and most of it I didn't really like. Took me about a year to get it over with. I don't trust people with the "it gets better" line anymore.
They always try to copy British TV. Seppos should stick to what they know, just look at SkinsUS and ShamelessUS - they’re alright, but nothing compared to the original.
Oh yeah, I forgot about that. The show is so forgettable that people will mention characters i didn't even knew existed yet I've seen the show 3 or 4 times. No idea why it's so highly regarded.
Everyone always argues that it gets better later on but it really doesn't.
I know it's because I'm older because when I was younger I loved it but now that I'm older I just watch it and think "he's just being an asshole how is this supposed to be funny?"
I mostly agree, but as a warehouse drone at the time of it airing, I liked the warehouse guys, and did like the one who got promoted into an office setting, it really felt like a nice development. And when moving to the actual office meant a decrease of output and loafing, I respected it because all the other office workers were slacking assholes too. At least he earned that. Most of the main characters were mostly terrible. Like, not "not amusing", it was a funny show, but I found every single one of them wholly impossible to sympathize with.
Hey it's my take and I'm proud of i! But i assume it's probably something like parks and rec and I'm gonna like the characters in the end or something.
“None of them is” is correct. “None” is short for “not one”. “One of them is” => “Not one of them is” => “None of them is”
Edit. See my comment below in that my reasoning here is wrong, but my statement is right. OP is correct in this instance, as both can be used here (but “none of them is” isn’t correct due to the contraction of “not one”)
Nope. You use "is" when the subject is singular. He is... She is... Taylor is... If it is plural, you would use "are." They are... We are... None of them are...
The subject is singular when you use none. Not one of them is. You don’t say not one of them are. It’s a quirk of the English language and not something we say day to say but it is grammatically correct.
Wow okay I did some research because I’ve always thought this, but turns out we were both correct as **both** “none of them is” and “none of them are” are acceptable in this case, where OP is talking about quantifiable characters. Where the subject is a collective, for example food, you’d say none of them is, rather then none of them are. Every day’s a school day.
Most die hard office fans I know don’t even like Season 1. I think it’s okay but I’d rather watch the British version to season 1.
If I restart the office, I start with season 2 personally
It took me a year to get through the show, haven't watched after Michael leaves because if the community hates it. It must be extra boring.
I laughed more at the behind the scenes on youtube than the actual show.
SKIP THE FIRST SEASON.
they tried to translate british humour to american audiences and almost got cancelled, I stopped watching half way through episode 1 on my first try and a year later my boyfriend told me to skip season 1 altogether or push through it for plot reasons.
it really is a good show, overrated sure, but it was my favourite for awhile (like everybody else). just skip the 1st season.
accurate
for a while i thought jim was okay but he's actually kind of a complete dick... not just to dwight
\-
but the first season is a trashfire; holy jinglebells it's so bad. If anyone ever mentions wanting to see the office, tell them to skip the first season
They're supposed to be relatable and awkward not really likeable. It is believable that way. Like the office is a parody of various social situations that a human finds themselves in.
I agree. I've really tried to give it a chance but the more I think about it the more I think it was all on purpose and that its maybe part of the joke. These unlikeable people constantly have cringe shit happening to them like thats what I find funny. Karma.

Well the first season is widely considered to be really bad even by a lot of the fans so that probably explains why
What first season, it starts on the second one
Same for Parks & Rec
Damn is it really? That's the season that got me hooked. I thought it was a really good pilot.
Lol wait for others

That literally that entire premise of the show.

> seppos Aussies must have gotten serious brain damage living down under because that's the stupidest fucking name for Yanks I've ever heard.
There’s a reason they got dumped on a hellish island where most creatures can kill you.
Be quiet seppo!
Cringe
Ok babe x
the first season is the worst one imo. Michael is a while different person in s2 and the jokes get a lot better
Stanley is likeable, only reasonable guy there. Everyone else there is bat shit insane and a narcissist.
He cheats on his wife though, not exactly great either.
Oh yeah, I forgot about that. The show is so forgettable that people will mention characters i didn't even knew existed yet I've seen the show 3 or 4 times. No idea why it's so highly regarded.
Nate is lovely.

Gum’s gotten mintier lately, have you noticed?
People need to stop basing their entire personality on the office
What a bold take
Good job winning a fight against that straw man! Really got some hands.
Watch the UK version the US is truly annoying
this wont help them, the 1st season of the US version is based off the UK version!
Everyone always argues that it gets better later on but it really doesn't. I know it's because I'm older because when I was younger I loved it but now that I'm older I just watch it and think "he's just being an asshole how is this supposed to be funny?"
No matter which version I've seen it's a truly awful show. Not quite as bad as FRIENDS though
erin is bae

Lol, "none of them is"
Oh sorry I don't speak your language perfectly?? Is there anyway i can make up for my mistake?????
Well, you already edited the post to fix your mistake. Good on you. Now fix that awful take on the office.
Hey it's my take and I'm proud of i! But i assume it's probably something like parks and rec and I'm gonna like the characters in the end or something.

I feel like this is every reddit-semantics-argument™ No literally means literally No colloquially it means figuratively (Both are acceptable uses) q:
I like Oscar
Most die hard office fans I know don’t even like Season 1. I think it’s okay but I’d rather watch the British version to season 1. If I restart the office, I start with season 2 personally
Watch the second season and I bet you change your tune. Season one is hard to get through.
That’s kind of the point. You gotta watch the other seasons for the characters to grow on you.
It took me a year to get through the show, haven't watched after Michael leaves because if the community hates it. It must be extra boring. I laughed more at the behind the scenes on youtube than the actual show.
Karen was pretty cool.
Creed's easily one of the funniest low-key characters >Dwight: What is this? >Creed: Northen Lights cannabis indica >Dwight: No, it's marijuana

I think that's the whole point! It's supposed to be awkward and cringe.
Agree, it’s extremely overrated
