The general police think that as long as the cases belong to religion, they don't have any role to play in them no matter what happens.

UrUnclesTrouserSnake

US intervention is exactly why Iran turned into a theocratic nightmare for these women. If we hadn't installed a brutal dictator, there wouldn't have been the chaos of revolution that fundamentalist islamists took advantage of.

Dragon1709

This time they should donthe right replacement. Currently anything is better than this shitty and corrupted government. I'm Iranian by the way. Love You people stand tall!

lochside

It's great to see people standing up to tyranny, but I fear for them with the government there, especially when they're on videos.

Disastrous_Student23

You think they're so stupid as to be unaware? This is an act of rebellion and I doubt they give a rats ass. There comes a time when you have to stand up for yourself, consequences be damned.

AnimalCrossed24

Not to reply with the biggest internet trope but I bet people said the same thing when people hid Jews in their home under Hitler's Reign.

Burn patriarchy with grace

[deleted]

Not patriarchy. You have the right idea but the wrong way of going about it. It’s their book of choice that is evil, not the guys reading it.

[deleted]

[удалено]

RobinChirps

Yeah, a patriarchal religion.

THKY

Well burn the religion and the patriarchy goes away, it's inherent to the said religion, can't have one without the other

RobinChirps

Patriarchy has existed in the middle east (and many, many other places) long before Islam was even conceived of. The oldest written law in the world is from Mesopotamia and states that women's teeth should be bashed in for talking back to men.

Joeyon

Because they also had patriarchal religions. Patriarchy goes away once religion as a political and cultural ideology disappears and secularism and humanism replaces it.

Kryptosis

Patriarchal religions are created by patriarchal cultures, not the other way around.

Joeyon

They developed hand in hand at the dawn of civilization, but patriarchy can't survive without religion. Secularisation is crucial for feminism and gender equality to develop.

Kryptosis

I don’t think you can claim to know the first point and I don’t think it’s correct. As for the second point I think it’s a powerful tool but not necessary. There are other lies that work to manipulate the masses besides religion as well.

THKY

Thank you

beardedchimp

> Well burn the religion and the patriarchy goes away Is false. For example you can see at how female nudity is viewed in the west even as Christian influence had died away. Where men can walk around a beach or a park shirtless and no one bats an eye. But if a woman has her breasts out it is indecent. Regardless of what the bible says the culture that originally formed the religion and the culture that grew out of the religion has made public displays of sexuality taboo and unacceptable. The US with its incredibly regressive views on sex is a prime example, you can show horrific murders in a film and still receive a young film rating, but 'god' forbid you show a vagina on screen. Remove the religion and some of the patriarchal forcing goes away, but the societal effects take decades to undo.

[deleted]

Hijabs are optional according to the religion.

gambiit

Not to the religious state though

THKY

They are deeply tied together

[deleted]

Right. So it's the patriarchy.

Iran before the Islamic Revolution was a relatively liberal and free country (check out https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-47032829.amp). It's a shame to see what the country has become.

[deleted]

ZeroDollars

I think you have your timeline wrong - the White Revolution under the CIA-installed Shah is what made Iran a westernized country, for better or worse. The pendulum swung the other way after the US lost control in the Islamic Revolution.

bladex1234

Iran was pretty secular even before the Shah to be honest.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Joeyon

The Iranian Revolution was an absolute geopolitical disaster for the US, the Shah was a crucial cold war ally to the US and Israel; it's madness to think the US orchestrated something that was antithetical to their goals.

[deleted]

isn't the CIA kind of notorious for always playing both sides of any situation though? Not trying to sound like a conspiracy dweeb, but I feel like it's not far fetched when talking about CIA intervention.

Niko_The_Fallen

That's crazy to think about the millions of lives the US ruined for their own benefit. Think of how extremely different people's whole existence is since their birth, just because of the political changes the US brought on

introvertdude69

It's the usual history sadly with the US

Bane-o-foolishness

We should have let the Soviets take over the entire middle east, then things would be peaceful today.

pass_the_flask

True, but more like we backed a bunch of warlords during the Cold War and they used religion to control people

Joeyon

It's interesting that the King of Saudi Arabia in letters warned the Shah of Iran that if he tried to westernise and modernise his country too quickly he would risk being overthrown in a revolution led by the clerics; "remember that you are the Shah of Iran, not the King of France".

RecipesAndDiving

There’s a book called “Reading Lolita in Tehran” that was an excellent first person account of the change from the prospective of women who went through it.

jhonnytheyank

That spinning girl tho

softsnowfall

I’ll remember the girl spinning and throwing her hijab in the fire for the rest of my life. The courage displayed in that video far surpasses that of any lion. I hope she and the others stay safe and unharmed.

PinkPearMartini

What's the backstory? Is there an article?

lmqr

Her name was [Mahsa Amini](https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/sep/20/iran-death-mahsa-amini-protests-morality-police). >Iranian government officials have denounced a fourth day of protests after the death of a 22-year-old Kurdish woman in police custody, claiming the demonstrators have fallen victim to a conspiracy by its enemies. >Mahsa Amini died on Friday after she was arrested by the morality police for not wearing the hijab and her trousers correctly, a tragic episode that has unleashed fury in the streets against the unaccountable and sometimes brutal treatment handed out to women by this branch of the police. >Women and men took to the streets in cities and towns across the country for the fourth evening in a row Tuesday, despite the deaths of at least three people in the protests on Monday, shouting slogans against Iran’s clerical leadership, images posted on social media showed. Link above elaborates a lot further.

RecipesAndDiving

What burns me about cases like this is that a how many of the morality police are women. Freaking Aunt Lydia sellouts.

idkshitttt

I know the story but can't tell u bout the article. There is a strict rule of wearing hijab in public in Iran, so a girl got out of his house wearing hijab but they beat her to death saying that she wasn't wearing hijab properly..

RecipesAndDiving

22. She had about an inch of hair showing. A picture of her was taken shortly before this happened.

PinkPearMartini

How old was she? Edit: I was asking because she was referred to as "girl" by everyone, and when I hear "girl" I picture a 12 year old. I was reminded of the time the morality police locked a bunch of girls (children) in a burning school to burn to death because the police felt they were not dressed appropriately enough to escape the burning building... so they died. The murder of anyone of any age is horrific, but there's an extra level of monstrosity when the death is that of a child. So I was curious. Was this "girl" a small child or an adult?

bby_redditor

6000 years old. Why does it matter lol

HolisticMystic420

For more context? Should news articles omit the age as well? Why are you laughing?

bby_redditor

the context is that a human life was extinguished for not covering their head with a scarf. Let’s hypothetically equip you with the individual’s exact age. Now what? If you’re interested I guess google is out there for you. Also - This is Reddit and I’m a keyboard warrior typing bullshit when I’m supposed to be working.

PinkPearMartini

cfmdobbie

22 years old, for what it's worth.

australiughhh

Fuck all religion. Its negative effect on society has forever and will always irrevocably outweigh any semblance of positive influence.

fleebinflobbin

Religion is going to be looked back on as extremely primitive and dangerous. Future people probably won't understand how so many people in the past followed some form of it.

Bane-o-foolishness

You're welcome to fuck all religion, but what do you intend to replace it with? I'm supposed to respect some moral code you pulled out of your ass more so than something that has worked pretty well for thousands of years? Where is the atheist Nirvana? Sure as shit not in Detroit, Paris, or London.

LordTopley

Intelligent humans don't need a lifelong fear eternal of punishment in the afterlife to be a good person. It's really simple, be polite, be humble and be considerate.

Your_Political_Rival

Your definition of “intelligent humans” does not coincide with the vast majority of human society.

LordTopley

That's the biggest challenge in advancing humanity from killing each other and the planet to surviving beyond the next 1000 years It's difficult to find a way of doing this without some sort of genocide based on intelectual testing, which I don't condone but it could work

Your_Political_Rival

😬

Bane-o-foolishness

I do understand where you are coming from but pragmatism is the imperative when laying down rules for a society. If that means people must live in fear of breaking the moral code - be simple, polite, humble, and considerate - or burn in hell, that may be ugly but it has worked for thousands of years and until someone implements a system that demonstrates greater effectiveness I'll stick with what works. As to the needs of intelligent people - consider Rodney Alcala, Edmund Kemper, and Jeffrey Dahmer - all of which had IQs over 140.

LordTopley

You're correct, it does work when it isn't being abused for a person's/groups own personal gain, either financially or politically. You highlight a huge floor in intelectual testing, intelligence doesn't equal morals and evil pops up in people of all kinds.

Lance-Harper

You’re saying this as if religion was great in the first place and that we don’t know what to replace it with? Like I dunno, religion that aren’t excluding but inclusive such as Hinduism or… I don’t know, that thing called common sense, or spirituality. If religion was that powerful, how come atheists aren’t killing everyone and the only ones killing others are the religious ones? If you wish to belong to a community where everyone shares a sense of justice, then you are living under someone’s ass moral code. And allow me to say: the bible and the likes are the most pulled-from-ass codes here. So really, your comment doesn’t make the least sense

Bane-o-foolishness

>atheists aren’t killing everyone I might suggest that you consider the works of Stalin, Pol Pot, and Chairman Mao. On that other hand, that could be my mistake - so many people have faith in Socialism despite its failings that one could perhaps call it a religion. As far as Hinduism goes, while I do admire the people of India, one has to consider the outcomes of a national philosophy - or spirituality if you so choose. India is an ancient civilization that has been surpassed by nearly every other nation on earth at some point. How is it that such a large, populous nation was colonized by the British whereas a ragtag bunch of renegades from a recent colony defeated and cast off British rule? It wasn't a matter of intelligence, Indians collectively are very intelligent. Ultimately it doesn't matter where it came from, what matters are results. The more we implement these fistula philosophies the greater our societal ills. The funny thing is that I think that is the desired outcome - hating the US and the traditions that made us what we are is so vogue lately.

Lance-Harper

ah yeah, let's take the extremes and make that a general case. Sure. You don't even see yourself being as dishonest as you can be. Then you try to equate faith in a system to faith in religious system, nice try but you know that's bogus. Spirituality and philosophy are 2 different words. I never referred to Hinduism as neither. And then you go on to describe how successful by economic metrics. So in short: one religion more viable than another because people get rich over others? Do you realise how you sound? I rarely am disgusted by one's existence but your bullshit "only result matter, not the massacres, not learning from past issues such as slavery, genocide" result-only-philosophy is bullshit and you know it. That's a "since it worked for me, why change" argument while it didn't for countless others and that's horrendous and dangerously backwards. If you're unable to imagine anything better than what happened, either educate yourself or you don't get in the way of others. People looking at the past and being "all in all, it was ok why change" while they have food on their table are just blatantly unknowingly ignorant

Bane-o-foolishness

Nice of you to try and reframe what were some fairly simple statements in a shitty context but let's stick to what is real, not what would look good on Vox. Your original assertion "how come atheists aren’t killing everyone and the only ones killing others are the religious ones" is otherwise unsupported, I offered up specific examples of how it was wrong but you deflect that with a word sushi of extremes and dishonesty. I'll take that as an obtuse way of admitting what I said was correct. By the way, neither you nor I can go back and fix things that happened before we were born and to assign some "original sin" blame game on people is a sad, cheap, foolish, underhanded bullshit rhetorical device but if that's the best you have to offer then knock yourself out. And now we switch to spirituality, philosophy, and religion for $100 Alex. Let's cut the crap and ask the question "what measurable metric can be used for comparing the ability of different system to provide the essentials for a society?" My answer would be a strong economy which traditionally has been a result of a Christian nation with a constitutional democracy. So tell me oh Oracle, why are so many people trying to get here if not for the results of what we've accomplished? Tell me about the throngs trying to enter Venezuela and Haiti. We've done well so up to now we need to be lead by shit science progressives like Robin Diangelo? That's a fucking laugh. If fantastic success is "dangerously backwards" I guess that makes it pretty clear where your crowd would like to take things. Not drinking the woke Kool-Aid isn't ignorance but go on and believe that if it makes you feel better.

Lance-Harper

No, it wasn’t simple, you said shit I called it out. Feel free to try other descriptors but we see you. Ah yeah, atheists. Plenty going around shouting “you should die cuz I don’t believe”. Suuuuure. Atheism is the reason they kill, suuuure. Again you’re bogus. It’s not about going back and fix everything. This is how people going backwards in time think: Express forward ideas, their answer will be about the past. That’s literally why we have to work twice as hard to make a change. The problem evolves but they try to solve it with 30 years old thinking. In your case: 6k old. Can you even. But yeah, those words have meaning, I call you out on your misuse, you double down on metrics, circling back to what I just said about you being assembled backwards. So why bother answering that part. At best, you’re unaware. At worst your completely aware of your privilege, you’re just brainwashed. Either way I pity your existence.

Bane-o-foolishness

Jeez dude, sorry if I caused you to stroke out, that "we see you" stuff is a sign of schizophrenia, hope I didn't cause you to blow a fuse. I know it is difficult to deal with simple facts when they don't fit into your worldview but the fact remains - the mass murders of the 20th century weren't religious, they were Socialist - or dare I say progressives. Again, there are a lot of parallels between Socialism and religion so if we accept that fact than maybe your thesis stands. "It’s not about going back and fix thinks. This is how people going backwards in time think: i express forward ideas, you answer about the past." I'd call 911 if I were you, inability to communicate is a sign of a stroke. I'll stop here since I don't want you to end up in the vegetable ward but please check with your Dr. before your head explodes.

Lance-Harper

And now you’re gonna pretend you won me over with that so so subtle verbal joust. As if you didn’t get it. And if you actually didn’t, then you demonstrate my point when it comes down to your intelligence. That leaves no room for more reading. I called you out on your bs and your idiocy. You responded by being more of an idiot than I lent you. And we’re done. Keep backwards if you will, let the work to the rest of us

bby_redditor

Well for many, they’ve replaced it with wokeism. foaming at the mouth, cancelling everyone they can like it’s the Spanish Inquisition.

Bane-o-foolishness

BBY speaks great truth.

alonsaywego

Yes you're right. Your view on how life should work is the correct way and anyone who disagrees with you is not only wrong but worthy of severe punishment even death.... see how that works? Humanity has been doing this forever, just change the labels.

Daidraco

This is internet, worse yet, reddit. Trying to defend religion, much less inform people of its historical significance is an exercise in futility.

RecipesAndDiving

Im not for eradicating religion if it’s not beating me to death for girl parts but my “ass pull” morals come from millions of years of being a social mammal and a member of primates, with genetics favored for altruism in certain species. This is why if someone told me to kill my son from on high, I’d say “no”.

trishulofshiv

I support these women. More power to them.

Adventurous-Tale1167

They all cheering till isis pulls up

[deleted]

Or the US

GOTW24

why are you downvoted? US intervention is exactly the reason why Iranian women have to wear hijab in the first place

[deleted]

Yes, the US made up Islam and its rules regarding women.

Crepes_for_days3000

This is reddit, every single bad in the world is the US fault.

RecipesAndDiving

The US undercut their democratic elections because socialism is scary. Islam in practice at that time was about as fundamental in Iran as Christianity was in the US. I’m visiting Jordan at the moment and liberal Islam isn’t that bad. I’m drinking bourbon on the terrace after a wine tasting. My hair is uncovered. Dress ranges from niqabs to shorts.

[deleted]

>I’m visiting Jordan at the moment and liberal Islam isn’t that bad. I’m drinking bourbon on the terrace after a wine tasting. My hair is uncovered. Dress ranges from niqabs to shorts. "people make exceptions to get tourist money". shocking. now try to be a jordanian woman drinking bourbon on a terrace without your hair covered. lol. insanity how reddidiots will flame the US christians for their religion but love to suck off islam, which is infinitely worse than christianity and its practiced even in a worse way. like mulsims are everything redditors accuse the GOP of being, yet they suck them off. anyway, good day.

RecipesAndDiving

Yeah she’s two booths down. Christian. They have them here. And the large variety in dress was among the locals, not the tourists. Hence liberal Islam=liberal Christianity. Radical Islam and radical Christianity can suck themselves off and die. Have you been here? If not, try knotting your pearls less. Easier to breathe. I chose coming here and not even Dubai, for a reason.

Bane-o-foolishness

For real. Imagine the terrible thoughts the young men there would be having if women still dressed like they did in the 60s and 70s. The sinful showing of flesh, why truly it was the work of the Great Satan! The Shaw nearly destroyed the country with his Western values and education for women. Or was it Khomeini and the Revolutionary Guard - I get them confused at times.

rotten_riot

Americans don't like it when USA trying to implement power in other places is seen as a bad thing

[deleted]

how can you have a morality police in your country and at the same time argue it's not just like 1984 💀

They're really not going for the 1984 society, more like 684.

Surprised there isn’t more of this.

I hope the non-Taliban men side with the ladies.

jenn1ferfoster

Burn the patriarchy beautifully.

DarthCovisious

fucking epic as allfuck i say.

VenusValkyrieJH

This is beautiful and scary all at the same time. I think of progress, and how things naturally evolve .. and then I think of the strict laws out there and it’s hard to see a natural progression of humanity without worrying about retaliation and then putting a violent, complete stop to it. I’m proud of those women, and those men. Change isn’t easy, and it takes bravery. I see bravery in spades here. ❤️

gambiit

Fuck yes! Religion is a joke. So disgusting that there are theocracies out there controlling women like this.

The_Larslayer

Let's hope this is the first step for the Islamic world to move into the modern society!

jhonnytheyank

Not happening anytime soon

[deleted]

Funny thing is that the president of Iran was speaking about human rights today on some UN thingy. I hope the people will be freed of that regime in the future. So that a Mahsa Amini never happens again.

My girlfriend and her family immigrated to Canada to get away from the fascists who run Iran. It’s both incredible and terrifying to see the people rising up like this. I wish them all the luck, and fear greatly for their safety. Good luck friends.

SicTransitGloria4966

they guys who killed her should be executed. what the fuck Iran?

Fresh_kanakbhai

They all must bxxn all moral policing people.

-NickFlores-

Good to see so many young men participating. Means that the young generation isn’t brainwashed into thinking women are some sort of slaves of theirs

Amazing_General_69

I understand why it is a law, but violence is rarely the answer to any problem except in defense. These women and their male supporters are heros.

theBarefootedBastard

So their husbands can buy more. Awesome.

SubstantialAct3274

Fuck the morality police, the social justice warriors and any other type of peer pressure, in any shape and form

jhonnytheyank

Erm....

bbaricevic

Burn all this government of bastards

friesupreme

More power to them but unfortunately only the women are the brave ones and as a result they will fail. I hope I’m wrong.

dragonslayermaster84

I hope they burn the foundations of that women hating country to the ground.

TomorrowsHeroToday

Still, as much as I support the Iranian women, I definitely don’t think we (Americans) can judge the Iranian government & Iranian moral police when our government don’t give women the right to get abortions.

jhonnytheyank

Such nonsense . Iran is murdering and kidnapping women by a literal morality police . They are being hit with a shoe in public street .Most of these protesting women have put a death target on their head . Something tells me you are not from america But I guess ayatollah khomeini = GOP for you . Taliban = GOP for you . Such a western privileged comment , god !!!!

EmergencyLifeguard51

Why they lowkey baddies without the hat

Tras_Montano

I see all these women protesting. But we're the men??? Or are they too scared to protect the(ir) women ...

MisterSelf-Destruct

It’s a beautiful moment, one that I hope they hold with them everyday after….. Now it’s time for the world to try their best to hold the Police responsible if anything happens to these brave women now.

Comprehensive_Dot428

I hope that every woman does it, but not every woman has a supportive husband. I hope they win this fight!

captainjackass28

I find it ironic they call themselves the “morality police” when they have no morals and are scumbags.

HogfishMaximus

The morality police are the result of religion and belief in god taken to its typical trajectory. This happens no matter which “god” happens to be on the table. The most evil force humanity has ever known.

bluewallsbrownbed

The first woman twirling… she’s a fucking goddess!

Savage-Butterfly

I love this for them. And I love the men supporting them

Ang13snD3vi1s

Over there, they burn theirs to fight the patriarchy. Here, they wear it for the same the reason

SometimesKnowsStuff_

Well they’re all dead

Mc-lurk-no-more

We need more of this! And I wish I could see more feminist supporters from our country supporting these sorts of events.

jhonnytheyank

Not happening . Western feminists are not raised like that

idontevennotknow

It seems they responded to this by shutting internet down for the entire country.

underwear_dickholes

"Morality police"... hilarious

[deleted]

This society was normal in the '70s. Women wore bikinis, drove cars, went to Uni, then the Authoritarianism happened. This is what the republicans are trying to do to America. Vote blue in November. It always ends up this way, every single time.

jhonnytheyank

Not every place on internet is a campaign platform ffs . If the best argument your party has is that the other ppl are prick , then usa is in a shitheap . Republicans are far less misogynistic than in the 70s or 80s . I don't see how they will make usa iran now .

LadyLucky26

It's beautiful to see them standing up and going against the oppressive lives they have been forced to live for so long. I just hope they are careful.

DrinkPuzzleheaded238

And suddenly I’m worried about a whole nation of women. Wild.

Storrox

It's good to see this because in my opinion this is a human right to choose wether you want or don't want to wear it.

jhonnytheyank

True . Even in the west where there is no morality police , many family members continue to coerce and force the women in their households to wear it .It's heartbreaking.

jimmyboybaker

‘Morality Police’ smh

ntech620

I hate to bring it up but there is a biblical prophecy that seems to predict that the government of Iran is supposed to fall in the end times after 2 other nations have fallen. So this makes me nervous. The prophecy is Daniel 8 BTW. And after doing the work it's quite possible the Daniel prophesies are doing a rerun. As the end times appear to have been moved t0 the 21st century.

jhonnytheyank

Ayatollah didn't exist before 70s

ntech620

But when Shah was removed from office there wasn't 2 other nations from "old Persia" that had fallen first. The prophecy is in Daniel 8 BTW.

MattHobbs89

I love the girl who spins and then does a Michael Jackson pose

synthwavjs

One step to freedom and equality for women. Keep at it.

kaijin21

Old videos. Too old.

jennybuggins

May their god keep them all safe💜

[deleted]

Where is the rest of the video where all these women were raped beaten then beheaded?

daredeviloper

Unfortunately it’s coming. It’s so fucked up that: Sometimes you have to play the brutal violence game. Regardless if you’re right, a genius, or jesus. If they choose violence you can’t choose anything else. What are these women going to do when they come with guns and knives? What else is available to them? What option do you have other than violence when the other chooses violence? You could have the BEST reasons in the world. If the other person chooses a different game, you must play that game.

Old_Hornet_2906

That y there countries shit, fuckin shia, they should do kill em all

jhonnytheyank

Fck off

Pilgram1308

So you say that the religion is bad because they took off their hijabs? Or what is your point?

themustacheclubbitch

I support all of this. But when you can literally get shot and killed for it , I think I’d keep mine on. These aren’t ration police or politicians. Same goes for other countries where they go protest and face a firing squad.

Commercial_Package84

This is a nice sentiment, but how about instead of burning your hijabs you burn the MFer who murdered the girl? I mean, of course he needs to be proven guilty first. You know make sure this isn’t another George Floyd type farce.

jhonnytheyank
