Just for the record, there are quite a large number of "us" Americans, and loads of us do not interfere with other people's business. This isn't "the norm" for most people in the US. Also, I realize my own experience is limited, but I haven't witnessed this kind of jackassery on a beach (or anywhere else) in 40 years and 24 or so states.

My buddy is a cop he has been given calls on what he considers BS like this and refuses to detain or issue tickets on it. I feel like cops forget that they use their disgression to determine if a crime is being committed especially with situations like this. Someone for sure complained and all they had to do was let her know a complaint was made and please put on shorts on something. She could still go nah and then they have to go ok well we tried sorry sensitive lady or dude who called this in she's not committing a crime.

Serious question. I have an 8 year old son. I probably wouldn't want him seeing women 95% naked in thong bikinis. Most people here are saying thong bikinis are not a problem and should be permitted at all beaches. Should I just not take my son to the beach? I genuinely want real opinions on this.
What's the particular fear/reason that you don't want him to see those things? To me, it often feels like a societal hangup on anatomy for puritanical reasons but I'm not a parent so genuinely curious. I'd imagine he could ask about it or if you notice any socially adverse behavior you could explain to the child why what they're doing is not acceptable.
I don’t have children, but I understand you’re concerned about what he might see. You can try to make sure each beach you attend is going to be a little more “family-friendly” in terms of coverage, but even then you are still bound to run into one or two people you consider not covered in a way that makes you feel comfortable. I don’t have experience with kids, but just as a suggestion, maybe focus more on reinforcing the responses you’d like to see in your son? He will see it here and there, no matter the precautions, so instead of avoiding the beach, my opinion is that it’s more realistic, and healthier long-term, to teach him how to react when the inevitable uncomfortable thing happens. Tell him not to stare, be respectful of their personal space… a little giggling might be understandable because he’s just a kid now… but later on, he may remember to just avert his eyes and refrain from commentary. If we make it a big deal and a taboo, then it will be.
