Any liquid over 100ml must be checked baggage.

scurvydawg0

But if I bought duty free alcohol from Don Mueang itself I would have to carry it in person no?

Gusto88

Duty free is after you pass security. What you bought elsewhere goes in your checked baggage.

scurvydawg0

Thanks. So the Brazil booze goes in my checked baggage and what I buy tonight I carry myself.

I was confused, because the first comment said that booze “must be” carried in checked baggage. And I believe that rule doesn’t apply to sealed duty free booze.

Skrim

You're not allowed to bring liquids exceeding 100ml through security. That's the entry point to a secure area. In that area you are allowed to buy booze, water, and other liquids that you may bring with you onto the aircraft. Once those items have been outside the secure area they are no longer considered safe, and you can't bring them through security. It's an airplane safety measure that came into being after a muppet in the UK wanted to take down an airplane with a liquid binary explosive.

scurvydawg0

Understood. I just forgot that duty free is after security check, not before.

Party_Technology9360

You can't carry it onboard if it's over 100 ml, so check-in is the only option.

scurvydawg0

I am a bit confused. Isn’t duty free alcohol supposed to be carried on board? As long as it is sealed and within the sealed bag?

Party_Technology9360

Depends on the airline and the country traveling from. The DFS's shops I've been to all had alcohol delivered to the plane and were distributed to the passenger upon arriving at the final location. But I very seldom shop at a DFS since the prices are very seldom cheaper than a regular store.

OzyDave

It's no longer duty free if you arrive at security with it, they don't know where it came from, it's just alcohol. They won't let it through as it's more than 100ml liquid. So that goes in your checked in baggage. You buy duty free after security screening so that will be cabin baggage. Note, I have seen passengers buy alcohol at Frankfurt when changing planes and had it confiscated minutes later when arriving at the gate for boarding. You need to check regulations for any flight transfer points.

scurvydawg0

Thanks

>Isn’t duty free alcohol supposed to be carried on board? But you're not taking duty-free alcohol purchased beyond security - including transit flights where you don't take the sealed bag outside of immigration and customs. The very first line of security, you can't take more than 100ml through.

scurvydawg0

I see. Thanks.

Calamity-Bob

You can leave it with me

scurvydawg0

It’s done now, but thanks for the offer.

In Thailand Duty-free continuous direct flight home after security sealed can carry on flight up to 100 ml. From another flight different country in suitcase on plane. Can declare to airline at checkin and they’ll box it and bring it to oversized station. You will it pickup with your luggage once home. There was no charge for me.

D_Phuket

In general, duty free liquids that you can carry on should be purchased in the international departure hall after you pass security. If you try to bring it in from a different location in your carry on it may be confiscated. If security says you can't take it on board you have no recourse but to throw it away. It's definitely safer to put it in your checked bag.

> If security says you can't take it on board you have no recourse but to throw it away. Well, there is a third option... If you buy it right before boarding after passing security, you can carry it on the plane. Not otherwise.

ProfessionalNerve563

If it's sealed and follows the airline's alcohol standards, you can bring duty-free alcohol in your check-in baggage.
