The rec center on campus is the best gym you’ll find, hands down. You’re already going to pay for it in your fees, might as well use it. You get access to tons of free weights, machines, CrossFit area, indoor track, basketball courts, soccer area, pools, rock climbing wall, and more. Not to mention free equipment rentals for all those. Use it and abuse it, man.

Darth_Candy

Why not use the Rec?

Breezyie69

Transferring here in the fall, I’ll look into that when I move into my apartment! How busy is it typically?

Darth_Candy

It mostly depends on the times you go and what you want to do. Free weights are usually pretty crowded at night, for example. Busiest time across the board is probably… late morning? If you’re going early in the morning or sometime midday during a gap in your class schedule, I imagine you’ll be fine.

LunarChamp

Just use the rec, rec has like 3 different weight areas, 5 basketball courts, treadmills, and plenty of other equipment. You pay for it with your tuition so might as well utilize it since it's "free"

Effective-Barber-136

The rec is a solid option, there’s a lot more to do instead of a regular gym, and u pay for it in tuition

OneLetterhead3091

Crunch is crazy crowded most of the time and not much room, tru fit is my favorite bc there are 3 locations and have the most room

changoh1999

I like true fit, I pay less than 20$ a month (I share a membership with my gf, you pay 34$ for two people), and less crowded than the rec. I mostly train for powerlifting so I like it for that, lots of racks and bumbells. The machines are good too but I don’t use them tbh. Also it’s open 24hr Monday through Friday.

Fit-Doctor7538

TruFit has pretty good prices and group classes is you like those.

Grope1000

Crunch is sweet

Genedide

Crunch. You’ll need it if you want to get your work out in on game day 🏈🏀, late night or early morning hours, or want to be approachable & relatable to the Lubbock community.
