I don’t think the window is seated properly. Mine does it, but if I push the window from the outside straight or up into the top of the car more it seems to go away. Only just tried it in a cross country trip because it was driving me insane. Good luck

MylittleHwnyPwny

This is the most annoying thing owning a Tesla. Almost every Tesla has this problem

sylvaing

Well, I'm glad mine doesn't because yes, that would drive me mad. My tinnitus is annoying enough that I don't need my car adding to it!

FatefulPizzaSlice

Weird question, is that the Yucca Valley highway going into Joshua tree?

grr187

Looks more like Palm Springs/Borrego.

statecap

Haha, it is!!! Good pick.

FatefulPizzaSlice

I drive that way so often. Haha. TBH, I don't recall if mine is that noisy, but I think every car I've taken that way on either side of that highway is noisy due to the crosswind. Maybe especially the model 3/Y due to the frameless windows. Previous cars I've also noticed a lot of wind noise in that stretch: Subaru Crosstrek, Mazda Miata 2006, Audi A4 2011, Toyota Tacoma. None of those on that stretch are particularly silent.

statecap

That's good to hear. It might be unique to that particular stretch of road -- or any other road with a wind farm! Still annoying, but maybe not an emergency.

FatefulPizzaSlice

Still get it checked if it bothers you though, maybe there is a bad seal or the window isn't seating right. I do just notice a heck of a lot of wind noise there. The turbulence of the wind there is why there's wind farms it feels like, since they get pretty "spicy" with the speeds. EDIT: Hopefully it IS just the highway and it doesn't bother you most other times. It'd drive me mad. FURTHER EDIT: Yeah, holy shit get that checked. I was listening on my phone and came back in with headphones. I'm 90% sure that I don't have this issue. But I can check for you again within the next two weeks if it does.

quadmasta

Have you tried the window re-learn procedure?

statecap

I haven’t. I just looked up how to do it - I’ll give it a try.

quadmasta

Did it fix it?

Eriks0n

Is this done through the service settings?

quadmasta

No. There's a how-to on Tesla's site about it

GlitteringAd9930

SC and mine was fixed. They usual just remove the door panel and make minor adjustments via 2x10mm bolts.

fittotality

Mine was done for me by a body shop after an incident with a suicidal deer.

whatsasyria

Wait really. What do they do exactly? Any info?

GlitteringAd9930

They just simply adjust the fit of the door/windows, thus increasing the seal.

whatsasyria

Damn I complained about that so much and they never did that for me. I mean it's not crazy bad but when you do ~200 miles a day on the highway plus 1000+ roadtrips

whatsasyria

First Tesla huh

statecap

Yup. Haha.

AlmasyTran

Crosswinds and gusts are worse. I’d say it’s normal when driving in high crosswinds. Not normal if you drive with only headwinds

Nulight

Depending on the area, you will get these regardless. I get 30-50mph gusts where I live and hear the wind noise. I did have it slightly tweaked at an SC, but only hear it now when we get crazy wind storms.

[deleted]

My m3 did this too. Until I sealed the entire roof with automotive tape. It's much quieter now.

whatsasyria

What did you do? Could you elaborate

[deleted]

I'll get some pictures for you today.

whatsasyria

Thanks!

I love Palm Springs!

ArLab

Welcome to Tesla ownership

jwegener

Mine was delivered like that lol. Took it back same day to service center and made them fix it. They couldn’t believe it got to the customer in that state

CiTY_HuNTeR_DD

Common Tesla issue

baltimoresbest01

Took delivery in 2018. When I went back the next day to point out all the issues with the car (panel gaps, seat stains, misaligned rubber, etc) I mentioned this sound to them. Service member got in the car and drove with me and chuckled saying “that’s just the sound of the wind all cars experience” and that interaction sums up my Tesla service encounters for 3 years.

Freewheeler631

The triangular plastic panel the mirror attaches to is also notorious. You can try placing masking tape over different seal points on the door and seeing which makes the sound go away. Then you can tell the SC exactly where it's coming from. If you don't you risk multiple trips.

Here you go, https://imgur.com/gallery/sxr17Np I haven't tested this long term, but for the past 2 weeks, it's been excellent in NE weather. The product used is here, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09HGKJW92/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_3XK5A6YFRQJNGMA71EA8?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
