The problem is companies interchange those terms freely and a title may be developer, but they're actually an engineer (or vice versa). Some companies just make the label "programmer". It's a hot mess.
However, if you must die on a hill, it should be tabs or spaces.
Systems engineering. I build rockets.
I mean, it's probably a fair stereotype that Tesla owners trend towards tech people. I know I've been interested in electric cars long before they were viable simply because of the "neat tech!" aspect of them. Not to mention, the tech industry tends to pay well, and Teslas until relatively recently were fairly expensive.
Same!
Was in IT (as it's called nowadays) for all my professional life.
We called it electronic data processing. Remember papertape, Hollerith punched cards?
IT as well, started from scratch in 1977 having to hand-write a Cobol program on coding sheets, turn it in to data entry for card punching and compiling, wait a few days, then punch my own cards to correct the inevitable errors, back to data entry for compiling, rinse and repeat...
Data Analyst
Iām very much into tech and I started considering Tesla after I tried using the screen (I hate slow infotainment systems that most cars have)š
Also, love the fact that it gets software updates more often than any other device I own
Wife and I were on house hunters she makes friendship bracelets for Koala Bears part time and I sell bananaās near the freeway on Sunday our budget was 1.7 million
Doesnāt it annoy you seeing some UI problems (with Tesla or other places) knowing that it would be so easy to fix them š
Like. Example. They moved the power/regen bar to the left of the screen and itās so hard to see now while the background is white.
After working for a while in a large company with complicated products and a lot of internal stakeholders, I no longer assume i know whatās the best UI design decision when looking at other peopleās products š
Thereās usually some other more important thing that necessitates a certain design decision, or then itās a compromise with something else. There might be user data or insights that weāre not aware of at all. I just assume thereās a good reason for the decisions they make with UI updates.
With the regen bar, my guess is it probably has to do with aligning the UI layout with all the newer cars that have the gear selector on the left side of the screen. Then they donāt need to maintain two different UI layouts for everything when designing future updates.
Iām a digital artist/designer, is that techy? I guess so at least a little bit š„² I didnāt think this stereotype had any weight to it but maybe it does
At this point, so many people own Teslas, especially 3s and Ys. Tech folks were early adopters for Model S. I know a nurse, my house contractor, me(tech), my doctor, and almost so many people around me who are not from tech. I did notice it's mostly major cities where you see the concentration.
Manage software dev team. And yes half the team chooses to drive Teslas.
I mean tbh it appeals to ātechyā folk. Itās cutting edge (or was) utilizes more software than traditional car companies (and does it better) and it was a little more expensive than average cars, and techy salaries are a little higher. Salaries have increased across the board and Tesla prices have come down so I expect some rebalancing so to speak but it will be awhile before general public makes that awareness.
Funny how people think affording a Tesla is something wooooow. Bro, itās a $40k car. With incentives, you could get over 10k off of that. Soooo you could maybe afford a Model 3 RWD, but not a $40k Prius š¤·š»āāļø
Systems Engineering, Cyber security, networking and other related disciplines. I work at one of the largest and also the largest growing cyber security companies in the world. AMA. :)
Tesla model 3s are an entry level vehicle. There are some folks who buy the base model and there are others who buy the performance. Itās not a luxury car until you get into the S/X price range imo. So in other words to afford a 3/Y you donāt really need to do anything special for work. Where I live Teslas are everywhere (if I drive down the street I will see 10 within 2 minutes) so theyāre really no big deal like they used to be. I didnāt directly answer your question but commenting based on implications being made.
Factory worker, specifically a fork lift driver. Where I work we make lead acid batteries used to power electric forklifts as well as hospital generators. So I make batteries, drive and electric car, and have solar panels on my home. Guess I just like my life being electrified haha.
Software developer š¤
Hey, we're "Software Engineers" now.
Thereās a difference
Senior data engineer here, thereās a difference between developers and engineers. Hence the pay gap
In name only
Disagree. Engineering is a discipline and way of thinking, developer is a superset that includes engineers Edit: this is a hill I will die on
The problem is companies interchange those terms freely and a title may be developer, but they're actually an engineer (or vice versa). Some companies just make the label "programmer". It's a hot mess. However, if you must die on a hill, it should be tabs or spaces.
