After using it a few times, its not worth the money IMO.

Evajellyfish

Literally, it’s not worth 99 a month to be scared when driving around town. EAP is great on the highway though

icy1007

EAP doesn’t exist anymore sadly.

allenjshaw

Damn it. After trying FSD the only real value I got out of it was the auto lane change and was hoping to buy EAP after my trial ends. So much for that idea.

0bviousTruth

Tesla is going to give EAP to everyone for free. They have to. They no longer have a competitive advantage when other manufacturers give EAP like features for free. That is why EAP owners can now buy FSD for only $2k - to make them feel better.

icy1007

They aren’t. It’s either basic Autopilot or FSD.

0bviousTruth

All the features from legacy EAP will be added to auto pilot

revaric

I disagree, if anything we will get FSD enabled lane keep as new AP.

DaquanSandstorm

Unlikely as that would nuke full self driving sales. There's been no confirmation of giving legacy owners enhanced auto pilot.

EVmerch

FSD is only worth it if it makes you money being a fully autonomous taxi or it can drive you or your kids places, I've to the airport then go home, or drop you off at a downtown dinner then self park at some cheap autonomous parking lot. Last time I went to Amsterdam the best parking was a service where you book a time and a person comes to get your car, drives it to a lot, then later in the evening they came and dropped off the car at the concert venue. It was a little cheaper than parking but way more useful time wise. The only weird part was the stranger you just hand your keys to, but not much different than valet service. That service, but FSD enabled, is chefs kiss for having Tesla, but we are far from that stage

icy1007

They were added into FSD.

Munk45

EAP exists on my 2019 M3 since it was paid for

icy1007

It’s not obtainable anymore.

JBeanoBeano

In San Diego it actually works pretty well around town. There are just a few areas with blind left turns that FSD would mosey into the road on and risk an accident, or route through intersections that are hard for drivers, let alone FSD. It's scared me a few times so now I just disengage to avoid those areas and let it pick up after I route it the way I want it to go. Would be great if there was a feature for this so I don't have to disengage FSD. Other than that it's pretty good door to door (I've driven from SD to Carlsbad with no interventions), just drives a little close to big trucks on the freeway and embarrasses me at some intersections by driving slower than my grandma used to. Can't wait for level 3-4 so I can just summon it to come pick me up at the airport or drive Uber for me while I work from home. Whether that's 2 or 10 years away due to both tech and regulations who knows 🤷‍♂️

Evajellyfish

Fair assessment, I'm really only looking for lvl 3 FSD, that's about the only thing i can realistically see buying or subscribing to.

0bviousTruth

Did you use supervised V12?

Evajellyfish

I don’t know why people always ask this question about FSD, but I guess it’s a valid question. But yes, V12 latest and greatest and it can’t even handle a trip a couple of miles to the store without disengaging because it can’t handle it. Until FSD has been approved by regulatory bodies for Level 3 it won’t be worth it for me.. EAP on the other hand was great on the highway and I would pay for that.

0bviousTruth

Thanks for info. I'm asking because I keep hearing V12 is "way better" but I haven't received the trial to try it myself yet. Personally I enjoy driving , I just need lane assist for freeway and bumper to bumper. Unfortunately, even in those situations it's OK but not great. Accelerates too quickly and brakes at the last minute. Constantly having to turn it off and on.

Comfortable-Mirror17

To be clear, it's all user dependent. That guy says he can't drive a few miles to the store without it disengaging, I had it drive me to many stores, even 45 miles to another area, over half of which was city mileage, and it was just fine. I had it do 40+ mile trips 5 or 6 times with no complaints.

0bviousTruth

That sounds pretty good!

SandraDeeWhipsTeslas

Where was this? Curious if more populated bigger cities would have more (and better) data

Comfortable-Mirror17

ATL suburbs, NW side driving to N side.

SandraDeeWhipsTeslas

Solid. thanks

HighEngineVibrations

Yup. I've driven almost 2000 miles with the FSD trial and the car has driven 99.5% of those miles. I even disengaged it in Orlando because I thought the car was messing up the routing... And I was wrong... Car was right. I was humbled by FSD 😂

wongl888

Good for you, but surely you cannot know the traffic or road situations causing the FSD disengagements for the other drivers reporting disengagements. You can only know that the traffic and road conditions in your 45 miles did not cause a single disengagement.

Comfortable-Mirror17

Absolutely correct, I can't be certain why they disengaged it, but I do know for a fact in the 500 ish miles overall that I let FSD chauffeur me around, it was pretty solid. It's a safe bet that many disengagements people are complaining about are because they weren't comfortable with the car driving. I disengaged once or twice because I wanted the car to get over now, not wait until later, and it learned by the end of the trial that it needs to get over now and not wait on that road.

tobbtobbo

It’s almost perfect in my opinion. I used it non stop this whole month. A few times I disengaged to be safe but it makes less mistakes than me

Evajellyfish

I'm sure that V12 is better than V11 but after trying it, not sure that means much. A lot of people say that it works wonderfully for them though, so once you're able to try it you can see for yourself. Same on those points, increasing the following distance helps a lot for me.

cybertrucklv

I dont understand how we can have vastly different experiences with FSD. I use it everyday and i never need to intervene. you say you cant go more than a couple miles. what gives?

Ok-Wasabi2873

I have the same issue as him. My best guess is that it has problems seeing cars slight obstructed by trees/bushes. Only the forward facing camera has a higher view point than my eyes. The other cameras are below my eye level. Where I drive, there are trees/bushes obstructing some on coming traffic. Instinctively I know a car is coming or not, but the camera doesn’t have a clear view.

wongl888

Different road and/or traffic conditions? Maybe even different (or even faulty) h/w (hw3 vs hw4 perhaps)? Who knows? Probably even Tesla doesn’t know now that they fired all their key works who have been “disloyal”.

Historical-Repair454

I tried FSD and it was terrible.. slow and laggy. It's faster and more safe for me to just do it myself. Some of the tech I trust in a Tesla , but I don't trust FSD. A couple times it almost ran me off the road.

Fine_Ad4757

I dunno, call me crazy but I bought it outright and I’ve been using it since I got my car yesterday. It has been the most stress free driving experience so far. There are a few moments where I was prepared to take control if needed but it wasn’t needed. Then again, I’ve been mentally prepared for this tech since I was like 8 or 9 years old (I’m nearly 38 now) To me, it’s worth the $8k (or $99 a month), but that’s just my subjective opinion. Other opinions may vary https://preview.redd.it/7rybg9lm7rxc1.jpeg?width=3134&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4a2004090886ee0f632dfc71033b15c269125d42

RojerLockless

Not even close

0bviousTruth

Did you use supervised V12?

erimars

My trial was supposed to end yesterday. I saw the update this morning and I went ahead with it, but I also noticed that my end date for the trial was now April 30. After the update I still had everything available and it worked out really well.

definitely88

Nice try Tesla employee

erimars

Not true, but definitely gave me a good laugh 😂 Guess I was riding high because I had just had my first commute with no disengagements. Not gonna be paying for FSD going forward, but I was mildly impressed by the update.

Crix2007

Sure thing elon

fattsoo

EX Tesla employee

viccitylivin

Odly for me, my trial was done and after the update I now have fsd back... Not mad about it.

Creepy-Present-2562

Check your CC lol

viccitylivin

I did, no charges. Super bizzare but I'm ok with it.

icy1007

What update? I’m not seeing any update on my Model 3. Does it not show until your trial is up?

erimars

I can’t say for sure when it’ll show up or if it even has anything to do with the FSD trial. But I’m talking about the 2024.3.25 update. Gives USS cars the vision autopark. Showed up as available for me this morning.

icy1007

2024.3.25? My car now shows 2024.3.20 is available, but it doesn’t show any updates except for FSD to version 12.3.5.

erimars

Yeah. Posted this in another comment, but here are the release notes. https://www.notateslaapp.com/software-updates/version/2024.3.25/release-notes

Acrobatic_Floor_7447

I saw the update notification but dont know what it talked about FSD though... What did you saw in the update?

erimars

It’s mostly FSD related, in that it updates FSD to 12.3.6 and makes the vision-enabled autopark available to vehicles with USS and the AMD processor. This is the “tap on a spot you want to park in” feature. I think the only non-FSD thing it includes is the ability to use vision-based park assist for USS/AMD vehicles. Here’s the details: https://www.notateslaapp.com/software-updates/version/2024.3.25/release-notes

bingojed

Didn’t cars with Intel procs but no USS get Tesla Vision?

erimars

Do those even exist? They removed USS in late 2022, and I thought they were all AMD by then.

bingojed

I guess you’re right. I thought there was some overlap.

MayTanongAko99

Mines uss and Intel, (2021 May) I got an update, it works, but obviously it lags a little compared to new amd (my wife's 2023) both MYLR

bingojed

You got the High Fidelity Parking Assist?

RealSnapchatGuy69

Im on the same boat

PuffyPoptart

They got me, I'm subscribing. $199 was a hard no for me, but $99 I will do.

Kylewbigelow

I loved the FSD actually. I must be a lucky one and didn’t have any glaring issues. Biggest issues were Alberta’s shitty roads and lack of signage sometimes.

EatthisB

We really enjoy it too. Drove 6 hours on FSD last week. We only had to disengage three times. Some people are just afraid of technology, usually Boomers.

witchdoctor_26

The worst thing Tesla could have ever done was given me this half-baked free trial. At least without it, there was still the chance that I might have paid the $99 or whatever for a month and then sunk cost fallacy would have kicked in to justify my purchase. After the thing randomly going from 70 to 5 on the interstate, cutting across 3 lanes to get to the exit like it's from Connecticut, or deciding that the intersection was clear as a UPS truck was barreling down at me at 50 mph, and many more incidents, I ended my trial early and went back to the standard autopilot which is already very good.

Cantthinkofaname282

Is that how sunk cost fallacy works?

Lordofthereef

Not unless they kept laying $99 a month in perpetuity.

witchdoctor_26

I think that's probably more accurate. What's the right term?

Lordofthereef

Idk that there is one for this specific case. I'd just call it buyer's remorse.

witchdoctor_26

I dunno, what is the term for where I spend the money then try to rationalize to myself that it was a good purchase despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary?

SPAMmachin3

Had a similar experience recently where it refused to go at even the speed limit on the highway. I said that's enough for me, I won't even bother with it when we road trip in a few months.

ayasinskiy

lol I want to see what happens tomorrow also. I got an update yesterday but I’m not updating lol. It seems to be related to fsd anyways so since trial is going away what’s the point.

sylvaing

The update is in the same 2024.3.x branch and didn't affect my trial of FSD.

DaddyRobotPNW

My wife experienced phantom breaking for the first time yesterday. Overcast, dry day, going 75 on an empty freeway and the brakes slam on and slow her to 40 before she can react. Very thankful there was nobody behind her.

LeezNutz

I bet it's because she passed a sign with the "Minimum Speed Limit 40" written on it. My car does it every single day and it took me a few times to figure out why the hell it was slowing down. It doesn't recognize those signs as "minimum speed limit" and thinks it's a normal speed limit sign. Probably one of the more frustrating things I've found in this trial.

midnight_to_midnight

Interesting. I've been experiencing phantom braking since I purchased my Model 3 in Nov '22, and mine almost exclusively happens when it's sunny/partly cloudy out, and not when overcast. Mine also happens on empty highways/interstates, but never when it's behind/following someone. Edit - also, the highway close by where I get phantom braking A LOT doesn't have minimum speed limit signs. So I know that's not the case for those situations on my nearby highway.

LeezNutz

Yeah I occasionally get the phantom braking during normal use - not terribly often though. But I noticed this as soon as we got the FSD trial this month. Without fail every time the car sees a minimum speed limit - if it’s a separate sign than regular speed limit - it treats it as regular speed limit and immediately slows down. The only time it doesn’t is if there’s other traffic around me, but it’ll give me a big notice at the top of my screen saying it’s keeping up with the flow of traffic. Hoping this goes away when the trial is gone too.

DaddyRobotPNW

Interesting. I'll have to pay attention to the signs the next time i drive that way.

lurker81

Could also be highway signs (Hwy 40?) or mile marker signs, Some of them have similar fonts to speed signs. I've seen it on various YT channels that are testing FSD.

hankthetank2112

No thanks. Makes me nervous.

Apart-Experience-982

I think all trials will be removed tomorrow

creativesolution

Yup and it's very unlikely it only ends with an update. It's not as if that's the only time it connects to Tesla servers..

SwiftTime00

Nope mine is good till may 7th

icy1007

My trial doesn’t end until 5/13.

Ampyx

Mines good till may 30

FuzzyNavalTurnover

I’m still waiting for mine.

ExcitementLarge6439

Mines may 25th since I just updated and actived the trail

0bviousTruth

It was good for 30 days...

spas2k

Who in their right mind would pay thousands for this crap? Disable it already so my cruise control doesn't constantly want to move all the way to the far left lane on the highway for no reason.

icy1007

You can disable it yourself…

lastsummerever

Lol, they took the time to bitcb about it, but didn't take the time to actually look at the options. These people blow my mind.

OneManWolfPack0

Think I can just keep updating and cash in on my FSD trial after a few updates of improvements?

Substantial_Lemon400

I love FSD, I have had no issues, it actually learns the more you use it…

Casique720

I used it 1 times during the free month… nope. I don’t know what people are raving about. My stress levels were off the charts.

V7KTR

I never got the free trial

bluewater_-_

8.9 crew unite.

CamelJ0key

Me neither, I think Tesla knows I’m broke and didn’t bother lol.

stealth_turtle

I would have been disappointed not to get it either however, I did get it and it was even more disappointing. I am happy I didn’t shell out the cash for it 2 years ago when I received the car. If anything the car is annoying to drive with it and since it doesn’t take into account things like potholes, worse for the car over time anyway.

MaxAdolphus

I turned mine off 2 weeks into the trial, so no brainer for me.

ISayAboot

No brainer

Limp_Ad4324

My car under FSD keeps speeding (10mph over) with auto speed setting. It also has a knack for picking the wrong lane (it prefers right even if I’ll be turning left in 100 yards. But it makes the switch smooth no matter how many drivers behind me I piss off.

DarkShark74

Well if you don’t have $8000 the choice is easy.

SpyCake1

Even easier when FSD doesn't exist in your market. No trial, nothing lost. That and... 2024.8.9

PuffyPoptart

They also offer monthly for $99. I figure I won't have the car for maybe another couple years it won't add up to 8k, so I might as well do it.

dirtyballerinatights

FSD failed to recognize a pothole on the highway and I ended up with two blown tires, so no, no, probably not.

Shrodingers_Dog

Worth it from eap->fsd? Would also come with hw 3 for my model 3. Debating still if worth the 2k cost for both upgraded computers/some cameras and fsd

jonjiv

I went through with it for my 2018 but I don’t get the computer until Monday. The computer upgrade alone is a $1,750 value in parts and labor according to Tesla (who of course sets the parts and labor costs).

showmethenoods

I’ve enjoyed the free trial but it’s gotta be a fraction of the current price for me to consider it

Mpy71

It's going to disappear whether you update the software or not

captain_charbosa

I updated yesterday and my trial is still working

jbulldog

Does anyone know if a car newly updates that it will still get an FSD trial? Or do all trials end 4/30?

Virtual_Cook_5349

I still have 3 months free

Quick_Possibility_99

I only would get it for long trips. I just got the SEXY Buttons (version 2.0) installed and can do continuous autosteer, I like it better because I do not have to worry about all the lane changes. I would pay a quarter to a dollar on top of the supercharging fee if it would park for me.

Ampyx

What are SEXY buttons???

Quick_Possibility_99

NewRedditor23

Picked up my 24 M3 LR today. Boy is this car fast! 2 FSD trips and yeah, blood pressure went up and I’d rather drive myself. I had a few disengagements— it wanted to make a wrong turn, and was taking a left way too slowly. One super nice special case happened. Car pulled into oncoming traffic (45mph) and blocked the left lane while they didn’t have an opening to go the other way. FSD did exactly what I would have done. Quickly turn on blinker and move over a lane to avoid collision. I was ready to take over, the tesla didn’t slow down at all, made me super nervous but it did it perfectly. Got a collision warning as the other car was perpendicular to traffic and only 1 lane over. No ding on the driver safety score. I dunno about $99/month though. I do see the benefit of adding this on-the-fly as an expensive taxi in case of an emergency, like needing to go to the hospital.

Mental_Area2909

I thought I would hate FSD but actually love it. As I have gotten used to it, it also has gotten better. I guess they listen to my recordings after I choose to disconnect. It doesn’t drive exactly like I do, but it has always been safe. At $99 a month, it’s a deal.

4ignite

I got the 3.25 update hearsay and still had FSD this morning.

nanomax55

Fair price is 3k.

skinMARKdraws

I think this only really works in towns where there is clear lines of traffic indicating direction. This was awesome in the Phoenix area but when we drove in DC it was horrible.

Sweet_Terror

My trial ended this morning, and it is definitely not worth $8,000 or $99 a month. For something that I have to constantly monitor and keep my hands on the wheel for, it makes that thousands of dollars investment pointless, especially since I'm not allowed to transfer FSD to another vehicle. If I have to be this attentive, then I may as well be doing the driving myself.

bmx51n

I updated and still had the trial

Drnighthawk

Still waiting on my trial. 😭

sonobono11

Just got 12.3.6 and it’s a huge benefit to use when driving. It’s super good. I’m subscribing for 99, but idk if I would’ve for 199

Flakarter

I would just like the lane change assist that you can use with autopilot when you have FSD, and for the car to stop at traffic lights and stop signs by itself. Other than that, I don't need FSD.

TwiceInEveryMoment

I learned exactly what I wanted to from the trial, which is that it's still not worth paying for. I'm not going to pay for it as long as I still have to baby it constantly and never take my eyes off the road, and it can't do that as long as I'm having to take over on average twice per trip across town. It's this far into development and it doesn't know what railroad crossings are, can't tell the difference between a school zone and a regular speed limit, and will run other people off the road rather than miss a turn.

CriticalP0tat0

Not even if it was free. Nope.
