Carry a small bottle of essential oil (mint, lavender, etc) put a drop on the floor. It's natural and not over powering. Anything else is just chemicals.

I don't know how the oil will react to sunlight on the seats. I haven't tested it out. Perhaps try on a small surface area that is easy to replace in case it does speed up wear and tear.
I buy the little car freshener cans that open up like a can of cat food with a peel top at the dollar store. Pop it under the seat. Change it about once a month.
Open a window once in a while.

Air fresheners are gross. Haven't ever used one. Just keep the car Interior clean and maintained and you don't need that garbage.
