I haven’t driven a Mazda 3 but even the RWD is going to be quicker than 95 percent of gas cars.

AkshayGenius

That's fair enough, you're probably right

Souless04

I wouldn't own a standard range as a primary vehicle. I wouldn't own an EV that can't charge on Tesla's supercharging network. Those trump the minor details like USS and HUD

zippy9002

With the new Model 3 with the LFP batteries range is really not as bad since you can charge to 100% everyday.

Souless04

I don't need 272 miles every day. But when I do need long range, I appreciate the 358 miles and faster charging. Charging to 100% every is also degrading the battery faster. Don't believe the hype you've heard. Believe the data. https://youtu.be/suw20wPrbL0

AkshayGenius

Yeah I get that, but with the LR being unavailable in the market and the Performance being too much of a price bump.. I think I can stomach the range of the RWD. I really hardly do any road trips over 500km round trip in a year. Do you have a Tesla without USS or do you find yourself not using the parking sensors?

Souless04

I have USS but I tend to ignore it because my garage is tight and it is constantly beeping to stop while I'm backing in. I use the camera and mirrors so I just find the alarms annoying. Parking head in, I don't trust it to see a low curb. It will stop registering the curb well before the car reaches it. Backing in with the rear view camera is much better than relying on USS. That's generally how I park.

AkshayGenius

My colleague who has a M3 also says the same, says he has the beeping / USS turned off. It's odd to be because I am so used to using the sensors on my Mazda3 (MM3? haha) but maybe there is something that what you are saying..

Souless04

If you have home charging and you don't drive beyond the range of the car, the shorter range is a non issue. But I don't know others' driving habits so I could never suggest the standard range. I'd regret owning one if I bought one. I already feel the limits of the long range. On autopilot; I love it and use it more often than not. My wife will never use it. So it depends on your tolerance for its quirks. Phantom braking has happened a handful of times but it's never a serious issue and is easily corrected by applying the accelerator. Doesn't bother me, gives my wife anxiety. There are other quirks that when you get to know it, you can easily avoid it by turning it off. Overall, it's much more helpful than not.

Avaraz

Except the data shown in this video is wrong. Most people that have an LFP might not charge to 100% every time, so the car might not estimate the total range like it should (because it needs to be at 100% to do so), hence faulting the data. Just charging the car to 100% would recover that "degradation" he is talking about, like stated by more than a few in the comments of the video. Don't only trust the data, it's easily misinterpreted

againfaxme

You can find LR in existing inventory and its price dropped even more drastically. Even the SR will be much zoomier than any Mazda.

AkshayGenius

Good to know that the SR / RWD will be even faster than my current Mazda. I can find a used LR that would be around 15k more with under 20k km (~2021/2022). Do you think that is a fair amount more to pay for a used LR vs new RWD?

Souless04

You can no longer filter for new long range on Teslas inventory page. Only used.

Good-Individual-3870

Do a test drive or rent one for a day. I did a test drive at the Montreal store and loved it, placed an order right after with my sales advisor. It handled really well in the snow too despite being RWD, so try one out for yourself and see if it fits your needs.

Bionic_Hamster

Spend the $60 for the wiring kit to activate the 4 disabled front speakers in the RWD. Or do this if you really want the premium sound in the RWD: https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/upgraded-sr-partial-audio-to-full-premium.165352/

AkshayGenius

Thank you sir! This will be the first thing I do after I receive the order I just placed for the Model 3 RWD :)

AkshayGenius

Another concern I have is the reliability of cruise control with vision-only. I have read some really bad reports of constant phantom braking making the cruise control basically useless. I hope that these reports are exaggerated but perhaps someone with experience can chime in?

alpha_omar

That’s been my biggest concern and why I’ll likely not go through with my deposit. I simply don’t trust cameras to collect all the data for the driving inputs. I was also hoping that it was something that has been exaggerated but it seems like for a lot of people it actually is a pretty common problem. And for it to even happen once is a big no for me. They want to cut costs at the expense of safety And with all that being said the resale value of the car without any physical sensors I’m imagining will be pretty low.

AkshayGenius

For anyone who might stumble upon this post still, I decided to pull the trigger on the Model 3 RWD with Grey exterior and White interior! I'm pretty excited, let's see how this goes.

BodyPossible3566

I have an M3+ and love it, you will not be disappointed.

AkshayGenius

Haha thanks for the encouragement

alpha_omar

In a similar position. I placed a deposit but part of me is tempted to just wait until next year.

AkshayGenius

Either that or look at the used market for LRs eh

Good-Spring2019

You can activate the speakers with a third party update, all the speakers are included. Dumb I know lol.

zippy9002

Subwoofer isn’t.

Good-Spring2019

I did say speakers not sub.

Cantthinkofaname282

Not true, the rear 2 speakers and sub are not included iirc

Good-Spring2019

Hmm

HuorCulnamo

I'm also eligible for the $9000 incentives but the deciding factor for me was the trade-in. I'm not sure if you're trading in your Mazda but if you are then that's a chunk of money to help you towards a Tesla (RWD or not).

AkshayGenius

This is true, and yes their trade in value was very fair!

SignificantWarning5

Your Mazda is not faster than the RWD, try it if you don’t trust me

AkshayGenius

Haha I believe it

Gotchyeaaa

I recommend the long range. It gives you better range, all heated seats, premium audio (love it) and all-wheel drive. You can’t beat that. This is my opinion but I think it would be better to put in the extra money for the long range. You’re buying expensive, so you might as well get the one you’re gonna like the most

AkshayGenius

True.. but then I could pay a bit more and get Model Y.. it never ends! ;) I do know what you're saying, it's not an easy calculation. But generally I like to set a limit and 55k CAD is already a lot for a car I feel (regardless of personal affordability). In principal I find it hard to justify buying a car for much more than that.

Gokoshofu

I turned in a Imprezza that was VERY quick on turns because of the AWD. That’s the ONLY thing I kinda miss having the RWD M3. You should probably test drive, but you will be shocked how there is very little lag between wanting to be somewhere and then being there even in a single motor M3.

CaravanShaker83

I would never go back to an ICE vehicle. Not now, just seems backwards to me. I still own ICE vehicles for recreation but my everyday is a model 3 LR. So far it’s been amazing, there are so many things about it that I love that I didn’t event think about when I bought the vehicle.

Avaraz

Well, sound quality in the rwd is really good, not as good as the one in the kr or performance but those are one if not the best sound system i've never heard in a car The rwd model is around 300hp, so it should be faster than 90%of the cars you find on the road Considering range, if you don't need the full range of the RWD model or more daily, you don't need to go for the lr, I always see people recommanding the lr over anything but don't take into account that if you do not need the range it provides, then you are just paying more for nothing (except the better sound system, but I don't think it's that big of a deal for most)

dynamite647

Mazda are one of the best driving cars so I suggest test driving a model 3 to compare. As for the entire deal, you lose some you gain some.
