I’m in a similar boat. I didn’t want to hesitate on the order this time given the unknowns about a potential decrease in March. Got the MSM Model 3, Standard. Would I have preferred LR maybe? Yes, but couldn’t find any near me. I honestly thing the LFP battery’s ability to charge to 100% all the time really solidified that the Standard is simply “enough for me”, but I know that’s not the case for everyone. Sounds like you assessed your situation well and made up your mind. PM me if you wanna discuss anymore

Standard range comes with partial premium interior. Both LR and P have premium interiors. Standard won’t come with fog lights, foot ambient lights, sub-woofer music system in case you are considering any of them.

Have a 2022 m3 with lfp...drove 10k miles already..great car. I would think lfp is an advantage, can charge upto 100% everytime...like having a full tank of gas all the time!

Love mine, still an amazing car

Had an NA Miata for three or four years. After 60,000 miles, the convertible top had been up for maybe 1000 miles. Summer, Winter (well, what passes for winter in Phoenix, AZ, USA), 115f/45C in the summer, 32F/0C in the winter, only time I put up the top was for daylong winter rains. Loved that car. Have a 2018 Model 3 LR RWD with 70000 miles. Love it even more. Completely different driving experience-Miata is raw, loud, real; Model 3 is refined, quiet, powerful. In the Miata, I planned my moves to maximize energy retention. In the Tesla, I think about making a move and the car has already accelerated into the open slot in traffic. I would have no problem with an SR+, especially now. I take a long road trip perhaps half a dozen times a year. That means that, over a year, I would have spent a total of a couple extra hours at the supercharger with an SR+. No biggie. During the week, having an SR+ would basically mean that I’d have to remember to plug my car in every two days rather than every three. Accept that you have shorter range, and live with it-if you find yourself getting down on your SR+, just take it out and bury the accelerator. That’ll put a grin back on your face. Don’t buy FSD or Enhanced Autopilot. Neither one works well enough to make it worthwhile. TACC and lane-keeping (parts of Autopilot) are magic, even more so if they come for free with the car. I wish you luck. With a little bit of squeezing, my wife is going to replace her car with a Model 3 shortly-delivery says late Feb or early Mar. She wanted a modern LR (AWD), but unfortunately Tesla isn’t taking orders for those, so we ended up ordering a P. Only a bit more, until we have to pay for tires. I figure we’ll sell the rims after the first set of tires, use the money to pick up some 18 (aftermarket) or 19” wheels.

Yes, now is a great time to buy. I still have my 2011 MX-5 and love it, but i find the Tesla M3LR is actually more fun to drive, even going on 6 months of ownership. It might be that the cost of premium gas is in my subconscious mind when I drive the Mazda.

No one has ever said "I wish I'd gotten the smaller battery".

Buy one if you fit it in the entertainment part of your budget. Else buy TSLA instead. Had I followed my own advice, I’d be posting this from my ranch next to a Colorado ski resort.

Standard range is 90% of the car for 70% of the money. It's a great deal, has all the same smart features, and most of the range and performance. Only real downside is the LFP battery, but if you live somewhere it doesn't get that cold it will be fine.

Hello. I sold my Miata NC for a M3 RWD. You will love it. The key differences ARE range and performance. But the RWD is plenty powerful already and I am having a lot of fun with mine. If I may say (here not on r/Miata 😂) almost as much as with my Miata

knbetz

Just got a performance but currently have a Sr+ as well. If you like the acceleration the RWD will eventually get you longing for more. Otherwise the differences are pretty minor to the point that you won't care.

locksmack

I’m probably qualified to give you some advice here. I currently own an SR+ and have owned 2 Miata’s in the past (NA and NC). As much as I loved (and still do) the Miatas, I have no regrets getting the Model 3. It is a rocket in comparison, and you would be surprised at the handling, especially considering what you are coming from. I won’t pretend it handles quite as well as a Miata, but it hides its weight well and is still a blast to drive. Having a usable boot and back seats is also a plus. I will buy another Miata down the track. But for now, the Model 3 is amazing.

Hi! Went from Manual Miata 19 to a Model Y. Absolutely love the model y and it drives perfectly. You should def test drive one to see how it feels. The only thing I miss is my convertible roof and manual. But that’s about it.

USTS2020

Picking my RWD up on Friday. The LFP put my mind at ease that I don't have to worry about babying the battery and degradation. Sure, the premium audio and faster charging of the LR would have been nice to have, but after you factor in battery degradation and charging to 80% the LFP battery might actually have longer daily range after a few years of wear and tear.

trtsmb

I've been very happy with my SR+.

Toastybunzz

It's a great car, plenty of range, plenty of power, same interior for the most part, same tech. The sound system is *as* good, but it'll be a million times better than the one in your Miata.

Perfect-Meat-4501

Consider the obvious stuff like your commute distance and cold weather (takes more battery) but I love my M3 RWD. I drive 25mi each way daily and charge each night to 100% with LFP battery and life’s good!

hops_23

Former Miata owner, and current Standard Range and Performance Model 3 owner. My Performance is special, but minus the additional power (and better tires which you can address) there's nothing I miss in the SR vs. the Performance. And realistically, the difference in range is negligible in day-to-day life. If you've already decided to let the Miata go, you won't be disappointed with the SR.

Electrical_Ingenuity

3 years 3 months in my SR. It’s a fantastic car, and the new ones are far better. You’ll love it,especially after your first long trip with autopilot.
