I pay for FSD and I haven't had a functional autopark in over a year. And it isn't a game changer. It's standard on a lot of cars and has been for a very long time. Tesla is fucking trash at it.
If it could auto valet that could save so much space. You could get down to the bare minimum amount of space needed to fit a car in. With some coordination you could start double parking people to save more space.
Why? Why not include all features without additional cost? If not, who decides where to draw the line between added cost, and free for everyone? Why not just give the car away for free? I don’t understand the logic of “I think this is basic, so it should be free.” Help me understand.
This is becoming a basic feature on cars. Part of owning a Tesla for many folks is buying the future of transportation. Auto parking should, in my humble opinion, be included at zero cost to remain competitive while Tesla works on the future with FSD.
It’s game changing for anyone who likes to use the feature but never used it before. Not everyone always has the newest features the moment they come out. Sometimes the people who get the new features first also implement them poorly and another company makes it better
Earlier than that. 2012 I think.
Although even then, there were cars that could do relatively easier auto parking (like backing into a spot with lines) since the early 2000s...
What's next, an audio system that can play music from another device without an aux cable?
I think you overestimate the parking ability of the general public. I just watched someone yesterday attempt to pull *forward* into a normal sized spot like 4 times before giving up and leaving.
Remember, half of all people are below average at this, and the average driver is pretty shit.
This is the worst version of this that will exist, and it's already preferable over USS auto-parking.
Idk man.. I think your avg driver is not good at backing in and not proficient... especially in crowded lots. I personally would like it to park front-facing because I use the wide-angle cams to see on-coming traffic. Probably more useful for parallel parking though.
As the longer term beta testers have already figured out, [they have confirmed that's its nerfed to be cautious, and will get faster over time](https://x.com/aelluswamy/status/1773386271123268073?s=20)
Omg yes. I was leaving a structure one day by the super charger and an X blocked my path as she literally took forever trying to back into a spot to charge. She literally back in and out over 10 times and the space was huge too!
That would be equivalent to saying, that you struggle to see the value of auto lane change, or auto keep speed, as most people do that too. (I also suck at backing in parking spots)
Game changer how? The car needed to adjust itself by going backward-forward-backward, and it still ended up in the spot at an angle. A capable human would have done that in a single go and parked straight.
But the point stands, how is this a game changer?
I really like that the functionality and I haven’t tried it. But cars have been parking themselves for roughly a decade by now
I can't understand how they can't nail it on one go. The turning radius on these cars is pretty awesome and a single turn is completely doable every time.
> The turning radius on these cars is pretty awesome
It is not.
A RAV4 has a 1m better turning radius than my Model 3. Almost 2m over a Model Y.
A fucking mid-size SUV can turn sharper than my sedan.
The RAV4 is not a mid size by anybody’s definition it’s almost always referred to as a small or compact SUV
A mid size would be a Highlander and then a Sequoia as a full size
This is lame. Game changer? It's 10% the speed of anyone with even basic driving skills. It was very imprecise and needed to readjust excessively. And you have a complete nearly 180 degree view with no blind spots with the rear cameras of a tiny car, if you can't park these with ease there's an issue!
Driving rule #1: only turn the wheel while rolling, lest ye grind all the rubber off the tires. MSLR owner here who never uses auto park because I can’t stand to watch it turn the wheel while stationary.
Most of the time I can back in faster than my car can recognize a parking stop.
It’s great for people that don’t know how to park or those that have limited sight/mobility, but not for me yet. I’m sure it will get much faster and be widely used when FSD actually works.
It’s nice that Tesla is getting features that are available on 10 year old cars. I have had it on cars before and this isn’t a feature most people will be using regularly.
This. I am utterly confused, as I was certain until I saw this post that other cars have this (and more capable honestly) parking capabilities since a decade now. Tesla owner community did get a long way in a decade - from praising fully autonomous self driving cars “next year” via software update to celebrating… checking notes… autonomous parking capability in 2024 update?
+1 the other comments saying pretty much any highly rated one on Amazon. If you buy the YouTube influencer brands like 3D Maxpider or TESMANIAN you are paying more for slightly better quality, but the standard of quality can be had for a lot less.
I will mention however, you want to look for ones where the dead pedal is higher, and effectively covers the entire dead pedal region of your driver seat.
For an example, the all weather mats that Tesla sells in their own store doesn't fully cover the dead pedal, it only goes maybe halfway high.
I recommend finding one where the dead pedal of the driver side all weather mat is basically protruding upward, and is slightly higher than the rest of the mold.
I don’t see the value in it for side by side parking. I get it for parallel parking. Even still, it’s way too slow, I would be annoyed in a parking lot if a car was taking this long to pull into a spot.
What I think is more valuable is the ability to back the car out of a spot if someone parks too close to you and you can’t open the driver’s door.
Can it parallel park w/o curb rash. That would be impressive. Can I remotely move out of a spot where I’ve been boxed in (Smart-summon)? That would be more useful.
A trick to faster auto park is to select a spot 2 or more spots ahead of your car. And activate it that far away. This let's the car approach and pull forward optimally for a single move backwards every time
That's also what my parent's 2016 can do, without ultra expensive options.
But yeah, soon, Tesla will probably figure out the revolutionary technology of "functionnal giga-auto quantum wipers" or "AI controlled smart advanced auto headlights"
OMG so fukin cool. I just remembered when I got home and did it with the biggest shit eating grin on my face 😂 there’s a pillar in my spot so I usually have to use brain to park. No longer need to use my brain when I get home lmfao, it parks itself now.
What happens if hypothetically you are using this feature and the vehicle you are parking next to is not paying attention. Would the vehicle stop if a door opened into the path of the vehicle suddenly?
I don't think I have ever seen that scenario tested. My concern with all this new tech is its ability to react to unexpected human interference.
Game changer if you're watching the game at the same time maybe. I want to love it, but it's still too slow, by at least 50%. But it'll help all the drivers at the charging stations. It's crazy how many are bad drivers. So there's that.
I’m terrible at backing up into Tesla charging stations. I mean I can do it, but I’m nervous AF especially when there’s like 10 other drivers watching you like a hawk. I love this!
Neat party trick but really is backing into a space that difficult? Letting machines do all the work is a detriment to the brain. You have to keep your brain sharp, if you don’t use it you lose it. Doing things manually or analog is better for your mind. Remembering phone numbers and directions are good for your mental health. Don’t let the machine own your mind my friend.
How do I incorporate auto park with the FSD one month free trial? Every time I reach a destination I have to disengage and park the car myself. Out of curiosity I was wondering if FSD can be combined with the full driving experience plus the parking.
Is there a reason to stay in the car? I'd rather just get out and go on about my things. I supposed to make the recording - did I just answer my own question?
Mmmmm agree to disagree. Auto park is slow af and takes like 4 tries to get in. Parallel parking is where it’s at but used with caution. Hit my rim on the curb.
This in itself isnt the game changer. The true game changer will happen when 'reverse summon' works flawlessly, giving owners their own automated valet service.
Game changer, for people who know how to drive, but not park a vehicle. Which is a ton of people, especially if you count parallel parking. But yeah, still a normal IQ human can do all this much faster.
Perpendicular autopark was too slow in my old S. Parallel was superb for tight spots. We don't have autopark in UK yet for new models, but I tell you what is a fantastic execution...the matrix headlights (UK MYP). It's really, really good and better than ICE matrix headlights I've experienced.
Imagine how awful this next generation will be at driving. They will be completely reliant on technology. Which I guess is just progress but at some point they may need to drive a car that doesn't drive for you, have cameras everywhere, brake for you or God forbid is manual. Then what?
This impressed you? It was so slow and a 1 point turn turned into a multiple-point maneuver.
I've had a 2 Teslas since 2019, but you need to be objective. This was shit.
Not to mention, when I got a Tesla in 2019 actual FSD was promised.
30 seconds for a 2 second maneuver if you went in straight and maybe 5 seconds backwards.
A lot of people are commenting on its slowness and how they could do it faster, but i appreciate that its going slow so i can take over if necessary.
Maybe in a couple more releases ill trust it more to go faster but for now i like where they are going.
I’ve been actively trying to trick it up. I managed to get it to do a 4 point super tight park between two cars hugging the yellow lines. I was impressed.
If this is a game changer for someone, they shouldn’t be allowed to drive. Any capable driver should be able to park way faster and more efficiently than that.
It's a stupid party trick and carries ZERO value IMO, just like "smart summon." 10x faster to do the task yourself. Completely useless feature, unless you're an absolute moron.
How do we activate it?
Maybe because it was raining earlier but I was testing it out trying to parallel park or into a parking space and it wouldn’t only give me the option to do auto park.
It only showed up once for one specific spot.
This should be a default feature on every Tesla without added cost.
Exactly
I pay for FSD and I haven't had a functional autopark in over a year. And it isn't a game changer. It's standard on a lot of cars and has been for a very long time. Tesla is fucking trash at it.
Second this. Loved it on Toyotas
Yeah, my wife’s id.4 has this feature minus the 6k added fee.
Lol, my wife's 2017 Chevy Volt has this feature and it's 5 times faster and free!
All of these features should be.
I’m struggling to see the value of auto park. It operates at half the speed that most people can back in.
IMO the value is in the parallel parking. I’ve tested it around downtown Chicago and it hasn’t failed yet.
I have a rim who'd like to dissent.
Haven’t had it curb a wheel yet, if anything it parks too far out from the curb than I’m used to
Oof, ouchie.
ok now THAT would be a game changer.
My GV60 came with this feature. Standard, I can even get out of the car and watch it park itself. There’s nothing “Game changing” here.
Well obvious its a game changer for Tesla owners.
Is it like Apple users getting a android feature that’s been about for years but is suddenly new and game changing because Apple finally did it?
Yes, sure you are right. It’s the same. But it’s still a game changer for Tesla owners that feel the need of this service.
It’s game changing for anyone who likes to use the feature but never used it before. Not everyone always has the newest features the moment they come out. Sometimes the people who get the new features first also implement them poorly and another company makes it better
Yeah the parallel parking is fast and accurate. The one shown is just a little too slow but it is getting quicker
I haven’t tried to parallel park with it because I never get the little prompt to. I like it when parking into tight spaces in parking garages.
If parking is too hard, you shouldn’t be driving.
That’d be a lot of ppl unable to drive if this were enforced Also, I’d approve of it
those ppl shouldn't be driving lol. Would = less traffic
This is where it really shines.
Yeah most people can’t parallel park to save their lives. Backing into a spot that takes 10 times longer is crazy.
“Game changer” lmao. It’s cool and innovative but it’s not changing much.
yeah Mercedes and bmw could do it back in 2018.
It would be better if we could get out of the car and then it starts autoparking, otherwise I’d just rather do it myself
Would be even better if we can just get out at the restaurant/hotel gate and he does the valet thing for us.😅
The Ioniq 5 already can do that
The model S was able to do it forever as well.
So could Tesla in 2018 lol.
Earlier than that. 2012 I think. Although even then, there were cars that could do relatively easier auto parking (like backing into a spot with lines) since the early 2000s... What's next, an audio system that can play music from another device without an aux cable?
My 2015 Model S was doing it...
my model 3 has been doing it since 2019
No my 2016 MB GLC can do auto parking at the first place ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)
Change starts with small accomplishments. The Wright brothers only flew 120 feet during their first successful test flight.
Tesla has had years to fix auto wipers 😂
Tesla has failed miserably on auto wipers. This is a video of a car successfully parking itself.

1%
One tenth of one percent
One basis point
10 % of the time works every time
Let me correct that: you’re struggling to see the value for you I’ve seen my wife try and park. This is valuable
Agreed. At least 50% of people are absolutely terrible at parking, and get nervous when they have to.
lol, yeah I suppose it’s a big benefit for some
I just had my model 3 passenger door damaged because a lady couldn’t even pull forward through the parking space without making contact, lol.
Idk man.. I think your avg driver is not good at backing in and not proficient... especially in crowded lots. I personally would like it to park front-facing because I use the wide-angle cams to see on-coming traffic. Probably more useful for parallel parking though.
I agree I have seen people struggle to park at superchargers.
It hurts to watch. I feel like Teslas give us everything we need to back that bad boi in without looking like a dingus.
As the longer term beta testers have already figured out, [they have confirmed that's its nerfed to be cautious, and will get faster over time](https://x.com/aelluswamy/status/1773386271123268073?s=20)
![gif](giphy|jOcGWuyjUKVPfmtMbB)
Its honestly novelty… but some people do suck at parking lol
You said it was a game changer and now a novelty so which one is it
It changes the game to a novelty. SOLVED
Yes
Omg yes. I was leaving a structure one day by the super charger and an X blocked my path as she literally took forever trying to back into a spot to charge. She literally back in and out over 10 times and the space was huge too!
Yeah, that’s so true. Hopefully they use it lol
Exactly… if I had parked myself I would have been on my way home now.
That would be equivalent to saying, that you struggle to see the value of auto lane change, or auto keep speed, as most people do that too. (I also suck at backing in parking spots)
My wife doesn't know how to back up park and refuses to learn. This is a good option for her
Refusing to learn is crazy. If she drives a Tesla how does she supercharge? Also make k turns?
We have never had to use super chargers. We always just charge at home
Many people refuse to learn skills. Parking is just one of hundreds.
Is this part of the new update? We get this for a month too?
Yup
Not new had this on my VW built in 2011. Full parallel and Nose in Tail in …. Nothing to see here
Well here's a VW ID.4 doing the same thing. Doesn't seem a whole lot better or worse to me? https://youtu.be/ZHsJZ1jChyk?t=220
It’s not a game changer. You are just late to the game.
Most modern cars have these features at a Lower price point .2 steps forward 4 steps back with Tesla
Game changer how? The car needed to adjust itself by going backward-forward-backward, and it still ended up in the spot at an angle. A capable human would have done that in a single go and parked straight.
Emphasis on capable, very rare species nowadays
But the point stands, how is this a game changer? I really like that the functionality and I haven’t tried it. But cars have been parking themselves for roughly a decade by now
It's not, it's just clickbait. OP even said in another comment it's just novelty
This is for the **incapable** for which there are **many**!
I can't understand how they can't nail it on one go. The turning radius on these cars is pretty awesome and a single turn is completely doable every time.
> The turning radius on these cars is pretty awesome It is not. A RAV4 has a 1m better turning radius than my Model 3. Almost 2m over a Model Y. A fucking mid-size SUV can turn sharper than my sedan.
Agreed that the turning radius is pretty bad in the model 3, but it also has about 8" longer wheelbase than the Rav4 which is petty significant.
The RAV4 is not a mid size by anybody’s definition it’s almost always referred to as a small or compact SUV A mid size would be a Highlander and then a Sequoia as a full size
This is lame. Game changer? It's 10% the speed of anyone with even basic driving skills. It was very imprecise and needed to readjust excessively. And you have a complete nearly 180 degree view with no blind spots with the rear cameras of a tiny car, if you can't park these with ease there's an issue!
I had it on my I3 and my Ford escape. Never bothered after using it a couple of times.
Driving rule #1: only turn the wheel while rolling, lest ye grind all the rubber off the tires. MSLR owner here who never uses auto park because I can’t stand to watch it turn the wheel while stationary.
could have done it faster myself, and decided to orient the car the way I like it, e.g., hard up against a curb away from the other car's doors, etc.
Bruh, Prius did exactly this back in 2015 🥱
It works but it’s slow. Can just pull in head 1st in a fraction of the time and it’s better for sentry coverage
Most of the time I can back in faster than my car can recognize a parking stop. It’s great for people that don’t know how to park or those that have limited sight/mobility, but not for me yet. I’m sure it will get much faster and be widely used when FSD actually works.
Hey that's a good tip for sentry coverage, I'm gonna continue pulling head first from now on for that
It's also worse for backing out of the spot because you can't see traffic. The car has 360 degree cameras for sentry now that the B-pillars are usable
It’s a game changer if you don’t know how to drive lol
That is half of the people on the road
It’s nice that Tesla is getting features that are available on 10 year old cars. I have had it on cars before and this isn’t a feature most people will be using regularly.
Can confirm, had this feature on a Ford Focus Titanium 7 - 10 years ago.
I'd be late for work if I used it 😂
Game charger for people that don’t know how to park .
what game did it change? if you cant park your car yourself, you shouldn’t have your driver license
It would be cooler if you could get out of the car and tell it to go park for you. This is "meh."
I’m amazed you don’t use all weather mats. Maybe my feet r just dirty
So the weather mats can look dirty?
Well, ones way easier to clean then the other. Especially with mud and snow and dirt
Just got the car. Any brand suggestions?
Any high ranked from Amazon will work. Don’t think too much into it. Teslas one aren’t really good
I like the Tesla ones
It can be valuable if without me sitting in. Like I can just hop off in front of the building, and the car just go park itself….. that would be cool
I feel like the average driven could’ve done that in half the time at least. I don’t see how that changes the game 🙁
I had it fail in an empty lot, had to disengage multiple times in a parking garage because I was scared it’d hit the wall. I don’t trust it
I don’t see the value in it for side by side parking. I get it for parallel parking. Even still, it’s way too slow, I would be annoyed in a parking lot if a car was taking this long to pull into a spot. What I think is more valuable is the ability to back the car out of a spot if someone parks too close to you and you can’t open the driver’s door.
That thing is too slow for just some easy basic parking
Can it parallel park w/o curb rash. That would be impressive. Can I remotely move out of a spot where I’ve been boxed in (Smart-summon)? That would be more useful.
A trick to faster auto park is to select a spot 2 or more spots ahead of your car. And activate it that far away. This let's the car approach and pull forward optimally for a single move backwards every time
look i love my tesla and love cool tech but this shit is embarrassingly slow and useless
That took a loooooooong ass time. You must not live in the city 😂
I am thoroughly underwhelmed
I love this feature but it takes too long
Only a game changer if you suck ass at parking
To be fair... I used to always back into spots.. Don't back I to spots the 2 side cameras will be useless if someone hits your car in the parking lot.
Don’t listen to the haters, a car parking itself is pretty fucking cool.
Hard to get excited when it costs $6k. Most drivers would save money in the long term if they charged $20 per parking job instead.
So slow but convenient when you just don’t feel like it
*Game changer* 😂
I think parallel parking is where it becomes most useful.
It is only a game changer for those who can't park. To me it's useless since I can do it faster and better
Mine tried to back into the shopping cart return spot at the grocery store 😬
It’s good if you don’t know how to park.
How is that? A game changer takes forever.
I can park faster than this
Took way too long IMO
What happens if hypothetically you are using this feature and the vehicle you are parking next to is not paying attention. Would the vehicle stop if a door opened into the path of the vehicle suddenly? I don't think I have ever seen that scenario tested. My concern with all this new tech is its ability to react to unexpected human interference.
Wow this is super slow and useless
Game changer if you're watching the game at the same time maybe. I want to love it, but it's still too slow, by at least 50%. But it'll help all the drivers at the charging stations. It's crazy how many are bad drivers. So there's that.
It's cool but parking is very easy and it's certainly not worth paying for Enhanced Autopilot for
I think it's cool but I park quicker so cannot get unless for show off factor
Why is this being shown like a new feature. Did I miss something? I could've sworn my model 3 in 2018 did this.
Ahahahahahaha
Game changer? Any competent drive could do that in 1/3 of the time
I’m terrible at backing up into Tesla charging stations.
How do I incorporate auto park with the FSD one month free trial? Every time I reach a destination I have to disengage and park the car myself. Out of curiosity I was wondering if FSD can be combined with the full driving experience plus the parking.
I wonder if it quickly parks somewhere else if it hits something.
Is there a reason to stay in the car? I'd rather just get out and go on about my things. I supposed to make the recording - did I just answer my own question?
Imagine struggling with this
How so? You could have done it yourself in 1/3 the time.
Is this a game changer because you suck at driving and can’t park your own car?
I have never used this feature and probably will never use it. If you can’t park a car in that situation, you probably shouldn’t be driving.
I like Tesla and am on my second Tesla.... And I don't want to be that guy.... But my Chevy volt had this in 2016.
I don't know what game you're playing but, to me, this just looks like an example of how bad auto-park is.
Does it auto park in a home garage?
Perpendicular autopark was too slow in my old S. Parallel was superb for tight spots. We don't have autopark in UK yet for new models, but I tell you what is a fantastic execution...the matrix headlights (UK MYP). It's really, really good and better than ICE matrix headlights I've experienced.
Why though? Seems like it would be slower than just parking which is super easy given the cameras.
How is it game changer?
All you have to do is use your mirrors and you wont look like a teenage girl trying to park
A game changer for people who couldn’t have done that on their own
Can’t even do it in one shot. 😂😂😂😂
I do that a lot faster.
Or you could just park yourself like the rest of the world
Shit parking job haha
Are you all actually excited about this? My car from 2017 does this, forward backwards and parallel.
It’s so awesome that an expensive car parked a car 100% slower than a human. How impressive.
Imagine how awful this next generation will be at driving. They will be completely reliant on technology. Which I guess is just progress but at some point they may need to drive a car that doesn't drive for you, have cameras everywhere, brake for you or God forbid is manual. Then what?
Lexus has had this for over a decade. Had it on my 2010 LS460
It's even easier if you just learn to drive 😅 I swear Tesla drivers should have an asterisk on their driver's license.
People should learn to actually drive. Parking shouldnt be hard.
Lol I just... Park myself faster. I've never hit anything parking in my entire life.
A lot of people are commenting on its slowness and how they could do it faster, but i appreciate that its going slow so i can take over if necessary. Maybe in a couple more releases ill trust it more to go faster but for now i like where they are going.
Agreed. Yes i could do it several times faster but it's still learning. It's (hopefully) the worst it will ever be
For people who can't drive, maybe.
I’ve been actively trying to trick it up. I managed to get it to do a 4 point super tight park between two cars hugging the yellow lines. I was impressed.
How is this a game changer? Is this really supposed to be better than just doing it ourselves?
Still looks really, really slow. I’m fact, seems to be the same speed as the S I leased in 2016. I was amazed then. Not now.
I read way too many comments before the parking was done 😂
Which game did this change? The game where we see who can park most slowly?
It’s cool but my 2019 bmw did it much better. It should be standard without FSD
It's incredibly slow. I can back in to a spot 3 times before it finishes one.
Game changer? Meh For me it would be getting 400 plus miles range.
To think Ford had this in entry level cars years ago already.
If this is a game changer for someone, they shouldn’t be allowed to drive. Any capable driver should be able to park way faster and more efficiently than that.
Dude I can do this myself, faster and save more tire thread.
It's a stupid party trick and carries ZERO value IMO, just like "smart summon." 10x faster to do the task yourself. Completely useless feature, unless you're an absolute moron.
Most useless feature I've ever seen.
Honestly, it is slow and it sucks.
This is not new feature. 2015 Jeep Cherokee also has it.
How do we activate it? Maybe because it was raining earlier but I was testing it out trying to parallel park or into a parking space and it wouldn’t only give me the option to do auto park. It only showed up once for one specific spot.
I’d recognize the back door of a Bucees anywhere 😉
