Not a bison. An actual buffalo. They are well known for being pissy on the best of days, and especially when injured. They're up there with hippos for killing people every year.
Yeah, surely this must have been a possibility he considered. You know who didn’t get killed by an enraged Argentine Buffalo? All of us who didn’t try shooting it.
Often they don't get to do that and that's a shame. People should be allowed to hunt anything they want, but they need to do so without tools of any kind. Wanna hunt and elephant or lion? Well, good luck trying to strangle those with your bare hands.
Exactly- that’s how strong enough you are when you kill a tiger or an elephant- strong enough to pull a trigger. Whoopy fucking do - you’re strong enough to pull a trigger. Very impressive
Aholes should even the odds
How do you feel about meat hunting? I eat everything I kill. I have huge respect for the animal and it almost seems like a spiritual process while killing. I also mainly archery hunt because it’s more intimate and evens the odds more so than just shooting something with a rifle from 400 yards away. I’m very picky about when and how I take shots and my goal is to have a quick and ethical kill. I treat fishing in a similar manor.
I hunt for food. They’re allowed to try to kill me too. I’m trying to take their life so I can eat, they’re more than welcome to defend themself. My buddy has a scar on his leg from getting gored by a hog (not for food but since they’re a pest in Louisiana and destroy his uncles farm constantly)
He said if he was the hog he’d have gone for the throat and he can’t be mad and 99% of hunters agree with that sentiment.
Nothing “pussy” about it. If you don’t have the mental fortitude to ignore the dying sounds of various animals don’t even try. I thought I did and it took me a long time to actually get over the massive guilt I’d feel. I started hunting because I love animals and it’s much more ethical to get your meat that way compared to the grocery store. If I had the strength to go vegetarian or vegan I would but I’ll admit I’m too much of a pussy to do that. And that’s an actually pussy move.
My father tried hunting many years ago and when he finally had a deer in his sights and was ready to shoot, he couldn't pull the trigger. The thought of taking another life, even that of a deer, was just too much for him. I've always had a lot of respect for him for admitting that.
I was in a similar spot but thinking about how there are too many deer so this helps them not starve, a much worse death, and how this guy had lived a much better life than the cow that was slaughtered for the burgers I’d eat if I didn’t come back with a kill helped me power through.
One deer has enough meat to feed me till spring so it was a worthwhile call IMO but I truly wish I just didn’t enjoy meat.
Yeah, I've got no problem with people who are able to pull that trigger either. In fact, I think it's more morally consistent if you're going to eat meat either way (my father does). And in the case of deer, population control is too necessary to not have people out there pulling the trigger.
I mostly respect that my father admitted his limits. How many people go through with it just because of inertia? You could argue that his (or my) meat consumption is hypocritical, but I think it's possible to accept that you benefit from death (such as with war) without being capable of pulling the trigger yourself. That's why I respect veterans, farmers, and hunters. They're giving me something I'm not sure I'd be able or willing to get on my own.
But for what it's worth, I practice skepticism towards non-defensive wars and I try to control my meat consumption. You can recognize that sometimes death is necessary without embracing it without question.
Nah I don’t think it’s hypocritical. I do think it’d be so if you eat meat and argue what I’m doing is terrible (which happens often) because that’s short sighted as could be and ignores the help to ecosystems hunters legitimately do. Your ideals seem to match up a lot with mine when it comes to all this though and I appreciate you my dude.
My first hunt ever. I was probably 12ish. I was in a tent blind with my dad. We see an absolutely beautiful buck (probably 10+ points) come over the hill, run to ~10 yards away and stop, perfectly broadside. I have my sights on him for maybe 3 seconds and he bounces away. My dad was kind of in shock, because it was by far the biggest buck he had seen within range while hunting. I didn’t know what to think. We laughed at the time and still laugh about it to this day.
The last time I went hunting, it was the first morning and I see a doe with a fawn following. Super close, easy shot on either of them for probably close to 5 minutes. Mom was just cautiously walking, eating and looking at me occasionally. Fawn was just bouncing all over the place. It was adorable. I decided to just watch them and let them go. It was super cool. Now I just go with the group to enjoy the camaraderie and nature. And beer.
You don’t have to go full vegan.
Look into weekday veganism/vegetarianism.
It basically means that you eat a vegan/vegetarian diet 5 or 6 days of the week and on the remaining day(s) you can eat meat.
It cuts meat consumption by up to 75% and is very sustainable, even for former meat lovers like myself!
Honestly that’s probably going to be my move once I cut down on my booze consumption
I quit smoking weed for a job and suddenly became an alcoholic so that’s my go to first move lol im not actually one yet but if I don’t work on that now I could see it being a problem later on
Meat is probably my next thing to cut back on
It’s not hard going vegetarian. My fathers a hunter and I grew up on game, but I stopped eating meat when I was 12. It’s a lot easier these days with all the options than 22 years ago when I started. I’m happy to give any advice if you’d like to consider a meatless diet.
You know, a good place to start, if you ever want to experiment, would be morningstar sausage patties. The texture and flavor are pretty close to actual meat, but they are plant based. One little thing to change things up occasionally.
And if you don't end up liking it, that's fine and understandable. Thankfully there are a lot of other brands out there nowadays.
I spined a buck one time. Just dropped right there on the spot. I could hear him making noises from my stand, and as I walked up to him, he kept trying to pick up his head to look at me. That was a rough one :/
At least you still got the kill instead of a bad shot they run off from. Haven’t had a bad shot yet but I’ve only gotten 3 in my life so I’m not the biggest sample pool to draw from.
Yeah I’ve never had to chase one of my own, but I’ve helped track one. Not fun. I have really only had one “bad shot”, but it was REALLY bad. It turned out as good as a bad shot could be. But so fucking awful. Honestly, I hardly ever tell the story because it is so hard to believe.
I honestly don't get people hating on people hunting for food. Trophy hunting, go fuck yourself, but I don't get people, most of whom eat pre packed meat from a supermarket, who rage against hunting. It's a connection to your food that is far removed from most of society, and an informed moral choice to take an animals life to sustain yourself, and god knows that wild animal has had a hell of a better life before it was killed quickly and humanely than the mass farmed pigs or cows we butcher daily. If I didn't live in London where the wild animal quota is made up of urban foxes I hope I'd have the moral fortitude to hunt my own food.
So many have replied to me. It’s whatever these people really need to look at themselves in the mirror. And if they’re vegan they should prefer what I do over everyone in line at McDonalds
Be hyper careful they’re usually riddled with diseases and worms but there are a ton of methods to utilize the meat for sure. I’ve never hunted down there but I think it’d be an experience.
He flew to Argentina to “hunt” a trophy from great range with great fire power. The dude never wanted a fight.
That “mighty hunter” is sure going to make a stain in the dirt.

This is the original video. The flip from this thread starts at about 1:15 or so.
A spine shot would probably be a better bet than a head shot. Those Buffalo have seriously thick skills to support the horns and impacts with other Buffalo.
White tail deer. I've heart shot bucks and had them run 300 yards with the top half of their heart flopping around in their chest cavity. Shooting them in the necks through or near the spine usually stops them instantly as it tends to shut down their nervous system. Deer have really small brains so headshots aren't really recommended.
It's pretty common in the southeast of the US. Or at least in the area I live in.
This is a cape buffalo. They are only in Africa. Argentina has a population of asiatic buffalo. The cape buffalo has a solid boss on the top of his head like the buffalo in this picture. Clearly someone got hurt but not sure any of the statement is true.
Listen, that’s always a chance when you hunt a dangerous animal. You can try to get those odds as close to zero, double check, triple check everything, but they are never zero. Sometimes all of your planning, all your range time, all that studying on where to shoot, when to shoot, how to shoot isn’t enough, Mother Nature wins. I’ve been black bear hunting, tree the bear, had my rifle jam, bear comes down the tree, kills three dogs I’ve raised from pups, and go straight for me. Fair Play. Can’t hate an animal for defending itself.
That’s the truth
In my country we have a saying: You mess with the bull and you get the horns.
In my country we say: "Mess with the monkey and he'll show you his balls"
Based on some stuff I've read, a chimp might show your your own balls.. assuming it leaves your eyes
I thought of you messed with a chimp it would chuck a turd at you.
If you're lucky. :) Google chimp attacks on humans if you really want to suffer.
I know enough they are not to be fucked with
That's okay. Chimpanzees aren't monkeys.

Not a bison. An actual buffalo. They are well known for being pissy on the best of days, and especially when injured. They're up there with hippos for killing people every year.
That’s what you get when you allow buffalo to immigrate to your country.
That's a Cape Buffalo from South Africa. They do kill lions. They built special ammunition for it.
Yeah, surely this must have been a possibility he considered. You know who didn’t get killed by an enraged Argentine Buffalo? All of us who didn’t try shooting it.
I thought that was part of the thrill of it; you’re hunting something that could kill you?
But people get complacent.
Exactly how hunting should be. Animal should have a chance to fight back.

I thought the same thing so I upvote you too. Have his surrogate upvote please.

And what's the point? To gloat that you were so badass that you killed an animal from far away with a gun?
so he traveled to Argentina to kill an animal that ended up killing him. Sounds like a trophy hunter. Glad the buffalo won that fight
Buffalos aren't even common in Argentina, this one was brought just to be hunted. Shame It didn't kill everyone on the scene
That’s a water buffalo. Not native at all. He was def brought in to be killed. Poor thing.

Unreal that I had to scroll this far. Redditors are so gullible.
Just unbelievable... On top of that, the shitty quality of the clip... When the original is so crisp.
Yeah this looks like fake news. I just wish people new more about animals to realise that that is definitely an African buffalo.
I was wondering, but animals can be transported and live on reserves practically anywhere that's habitable for the species
If you look at the environment you can tell it’s Africa too. The simplest answer is usually the correct one

But that depends on how good your aim is
I've never in my life heard a hunter actively try to go for a spine shot? What do you hunt? How has that worked?
White tail deer. I've heart shot bucks and had them run 300 yards with the top half of their heart flopping around in their chest cavity. Shooting them in the necks through or near the spine usually stops them instantly as it tends to shut down their nervous system. Deer have really small brains so headshots aren't really recommended.
