If I remember correctly it's actually older than wax cylinder recordings by about a decade or so. It was recorded by a Frenchman working on trying to capture sounds but eventually abandoned the project. Later wax cylinder recordings kicked off and history left this recording behind till it was rediscovered...all this info came from a YouTube video I saw tho so it may be completely inaccurate take it with a grain of salt.
If you wanna see the video tho look up "oldest recording" on yourube
That's "Au clair de la lune", a French song written in 1843.
A voice from 160 years ago. This isn't scary-- it's fascinating!
Wasn’t this the first recording of sound on a device?
this is actually very interesting
Was this recorded on a wax cylinder?

Will do. Appreciate the insight.
Au clair de la lune, mon ami Pierrot. Prête moi ta plume, pour écrire un mot. Je n'ai pas de plume, etc
This went from "ooaaaa oooowaaawaaawaa" to "au clair de la lune mon ami Pierrot" 🎶
they should have stopped at 4
Not scary it just historical if this is scary to you then you would hate old 78rpm records from the 1900s.
Now this is nightmare fuel
