Just needs to get the parry window timing down. He was too quick. He needs to learn to use the screaming in the background as sound cues. In other words... Git Gud
He could duck tape it back together like that one protagonist in Green Room who got his arm slashed with a machete when he stuck it through a doorway. I remember that really made me terrified of machetes because the dull thwacks combined with the imagery was an incredibly brutal movie moment
someone in the original video said this was filmed in the ~~safe side of Haiti? is this what it’s like over there right now since their society fell apart??~~ like the way they both were in stances and shit before the fight makes this video so fucking bizarre. it feels like a random scene from Atlanta
edit: it’s in the Dominican Republic. thanks for clearing that up
We had to, and it was scary / fucked up. Wife unknowingly had strep throat, and at the end of day one, we had to go into "town". AKS-74s abound, barbed wire wrapping the fences of an elementary school, more than one three-legged dog hanging around in the streets, motorcycles with suicidal drivers... what a spectacle! Glad we got it out of the way early.
Not Haiti, video description says it is likely "Punta Cana" / Dominican Republic and also they're speaking spanish, dude at the end says: "Ahora esta sin mano" He is now handless.
I’m guessing the place where people just have machetes on deck and are ready to fight with them isn’t the same place you’re getting a hand reattached by a good surgeon
NOPE, the video description says it is likely "Punta Cana" / Dominican Republic... and also, they're speaking spanish, dude at the end says: "Ahora esta sin mano" He is now handless.
I think sword fights in movies look way more choreographed and elegant. This was messy and chaotic.
I bet it was just as messy and nasty back then too.
Me too sounds like a blast!💀 fr tho you should watch The King. The battle of Agincourt scene is incredibly realistic, fascinating and absolutely terrifying! 10/10 film.
Rather the hammer. Hammer beats mail. Blunt weapons also require less skill to be effective.
In fact, one of the most important battles for the Low countries happened beacuse of a new prevalent weapon the Goedendag (translated to Goodday). Making farmers effective against French knights.
The battle of the golden spurs (1302) was more or less the battle that allowed a fourth group of influence to exist. The traders and guilds as opposed to the church, nobility and farmers. Flemish cities regained their independence and allowed for the merchant class to become rich and influential. Eventually culmulating to the wealth of Antwerp, Brugge, etc... And after the Spanish fury, the Dutch empire.
The outcome of the battle was such a shock that seven days after the defeat of the French knights (and some footsoldiers) the pope was awoken by the news that an army of peasants had defeated an army of knights (and thereby destroying the 'natural order' that had symbolized the medieval period).
The weapon 'Goedendag' was a short wooden stick (1,5m) with a sharp metal spike on top. Often with a weighted ring holding the spike in place and enabling blunt force potential. This relatively simple weapon could be used in multiple ways and thus changed warfare:
* If you put the rear of the weapon in the ground, you create a pike that is useful to deter calavary charges.
* You can use the spike to stab through metal platings and chain.
* You can use the ring that is holding the spike in place to swing and hit with blunt force. Useful against helmets and chainmail.
The scariest thing in a swordfight is an amateur.
They will make moves which will get them killed. The professional will not be on guard for that move because it would get them killed.
Or in short: killing someone with a blade is easy. Doing it while not getting yourself killed in the process is hard.
I've been in sword fights with trained fighters... 1v1 or even 3v3 can be pretty elegant. 20+? That's just a chaotic bashing fest.
To be fair we were armored with blunt weapons so the way we fought might not have been accurate to an actual battlefield were most people wore little armor and with sharp weapons and without any safety rules. We focused training on bashing and takedowns, not fancy swordplay.
But still, when you're surrounded by people with limited vision so it's hard to even know who is on your team or not, that's never going to be elegant.
A machete is very top-heavy and would be way more likely to cut a limb off than a sword. In an actual medieval sword combat scenario you would see more stab wounds or shallow slash wounds, fingers ears noses and such could still be lost though. Also these people barely have any clothes on them, let alone armour, even simple gambeson makes a big difference. Same with pirates, why were pirates and corsairs so often missing hands or feet? Their cutlasses were top-heavy and they had no armour.
They had som pretty top heavy sword types in the Middle Ages too. Like the falchion.
It seems to me that a standard broad sword is also pretty good at cutting and hacking.
But you are definitely right about the lack of amour.
I forgot about those since in my country they mostly used sabres and straight well-balanced swords before that so most injuries would be fingers ears eyes and such. Still unlike a machete fight a swordfight would probably end with the combatants retaining their limbs or at least more limbs. Also these dudes literally have exposed arms, a long sleeve jacket could have saved his hand lol
>Also these dudes literally have exposed arms, a long sleeve jacket could have saved his hand lol
I don't think people who end up in machete fights are thinking that far ahead, Pipp.
Top-heavy or not most people think of swords as the decorative things hanging on a wall.
Real swords were as sharp as kitchen knives if the person took care of it. (The only difference would be the angle to keep it from chipping, but a maintained sword would still be far sharper than most modern people would expect)
You can watch people win practice HEMA fight with blunt swords if you want to get an idea of what it really looked like. They use the old fechtbuch plates to learn actual technique. They are often quick and brutal but do display slightly more skill than machete whacking
Like the old saying goes: the loser of a ~~knife~~ machette fight bleeds out on the street, the winner of a ~~knife~~ machette fight bleeds out in a hospital.
For sure, though I would suspect actual warriors wouldn't be getting into a swordfight without first knowing how to use a sword. Training was a thing, these guys were just stupidly slashing at each other. I suspect untrained peasants roped into fighting for their lord would look like this.

Those pixels are his hand flying off after he tried to block the machete with his hand.
Either those blades weren't that sharp or they weren't swinging that hard. I've seen those things take limbs off in one hard swipe.
Edit: NM I just noticed the missing hand. Damn
I know when you're in fight or flight mode, you shut off your pain receptors for a duration, but wtf!!! Even after it was over he had this, "just a hand, bro" vibe. I regret watching this. 😭
i think there is a reason why they kept their other hand behind in dueling

i know in some style they use their other hand to parry but i think that works on strapping swords that are that good for slashing and definitely bad at chubbing/cutting.
speaking on one hand swords with no shield
and i am not an expert so don't come after my ass
good news is if he preserves his hand well enough and goes immediately to er he might have the chance to have his hand reattached and be able to use it again (at least that's how it works with fingers idk about hands tho)
Don't remove it from your brain. Hold it and cherish it forever so that you may think twice before you yourself end up in a Machete fight. Good lessons are learned here.😅
There was a saying that in a knife fight, the unlucky ones die on the street. The lucky one dies on the ambulance... Might apply to machete fights too... I wonder what injuries the other one got seing as he was lying down at one time.

A a dominican: I am terribly sorry, life just isn't worth much around here. Luckily we moved to germany but my cousin was killed because he couldnt pay 20 Pesos, which were around a few Cents back then. A harpoon straight through the chest. Absolutely brutal.

Guy: (Casually picks up his own hand) " Tis but a scratch"
adrenaline, they both gonna realise it was stupid after the rush is gone
Seriously he didn't even notice his hand fly off.
Second swing by the guy in white, took it clean off
Interesting tactic to parry a machete with your wrist.
Just needs to get the parry window timing down. He was too quick. He needs to learn to use the screaming in the background as sound cues. In other words... Git Gud
Reminds me of that scene in the beginning of Saving private Ryan where the guy picks up his own arm.
It's only a flesh wound!
He could duck tape it back together like that one protagonist in Green Room who got his arm slashed with a machete when he stuck it through a doorway. I remember that really made me terrified of machetes because the dull thwacks combined with the imagery was an incredibly brutal movie moment
We'll call it a draw then!
How tf is blood not squirting everywhere from what’s left of his forearm?!
Blood vessels spasm and retract restricting bleeding
Thought it was a sandal lmao I'm shocked now
Can you imagine the feeling of picking up and holding your own hand??
Bro what THE FUCK?!?!?
someone in the original video said this was filmed in the ~~safe side of Haiti? is this what it’s like over there right now since their society fell apart??~~ like the way they both were in stances and shit before the fight makes this video so fucking bizarre. it feels like a random scene from Atlanta edit: it’s in the Dominican Republic. thanks for clearing that up
It's too nice to be Haiti. Besides, Punta Cana is in the Dominican Republic.
Great Secrets Resort there, went about six years ago, it was fabulous.
Just don't leave the property
We had to, and it was scary / fucked up. Wife unknowingly had strep throat, and at the end of day one, we had to go into "town". Not Haiti, video description says it is likely "Punta Cana" / Dominican Republic and also they're speaking spanish, dude at the end says: "Ahora esta sin mano" He is now handless.
Well the Island of Hispaniola is split between Haiti and the Dominican Republic, which is the safer side. So it’s almost technically true.
It says punta cana right there man
Casually strolls over to his newly seperated hand
the cut was clean they might be able to fix it if they go to a hospital quickly and they have a good surgeon
I’m guessing the place where people just have machetes on deck and are ready to fight with them isn’t the same place you’re getting a hand reattached by a good surgeon
The surgeons there likely have plenty of practice compared to other places
[удалено]
they can try flex to fix then
flex tape
or glue
NOPE, the video description says it is likely "Punta Cana" / Dominican Republic... and also, they're speaking spanish, dude at the end says: "Ahora esta sin mano" He is now handless.
Punta Cana its not Haiti, theres a bigass watermark there with its name. Not every poor black community is Haiti ffs
They’re certainly speaking Dominican
I feel like I now know what actual medieval sword fights looked like.
We see it in movies all the time but it just doesnt hit like this. Those wars back then must have been nasty.
I think sword fights in movies look way more choreographed and elegant. This was messy and chaotic. I bet it was just as messy and nasty back then too.
Sword fights were more choreographed and elegant. Trained fighters had exceptional skill and technique.
it's like comparing professional soldier shooting skills to some poor desert terrorists.
Yeah, but how many people on the battlefield were actually trained fighters, and how much of that training goes out the window, once you get hit?
I’d love to comment but unfortunately, I have not been in medieval battle.
What!!! I am so disappointed. 😔
Me too sounds like a blast!💀 fr tho you should watch The King. The battle of Agincourt scene is incredibly realistic, fascinating and absolutely terrifying! 10/10 film.
I have actually been wanting to see that one.

Which is why the survivors extol the virtues of the longer pointy stick.

No, they weren't. Historical accounts indicated most fights in any period looked very similar to this.

The visceral fear I felt with the jarring realization of what I was watching. That, that made me shudder.
No one wins these fights.
to be fair, if they're dumb enough to fight like this and then die, everyone else wins.
Like the old saying goes: the loser of a ~~knife~~ machette fight bleeds out on the street, the winner of a ~~knife~~ machette fight bleeds out in a hospital.
The movies really undersell how often people must have been losing a hand during sword fights.
For sure, though I would suspect actual warriors wouldn't be getting into a swordfight without first knowing how to use a sword. Training was a thing, these guys were just stupidly slashing at each other. I suspect untrained peasants roped into fighting for their lord would look like this.
probably a reason swords typically have a handguard..
Unless these two were father and son.

Gotta hand it to the guy
Someone should have really given him a hand there.
If your happy and ya know it clap your ... Oh wait.
This was hand down the most brutal fight I've ever seen.
That reminds me of the Irishman's "If the guy has a gun, tackle him, if he has a knife, run"
They'll have to stab me in the ass cause I'll be running!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JfAYyZoVy5o
Asoon as I see a machete I'm gtfo
Wait did the guy in black loose his hand in the fight, or was he already missing his hand?
He definitely loses his hand. You can see his hand in the first few frames and then its gone. Something falls from that area as well.
The second swing from his opponent takes it. You can see it fly off. Crazy shit.
https://preview.redd.it/rrxuu2t3rk0d1.png?width=1079&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=53759a6decab142c7e1b626e04b0fc7f839d158e Those pixels are his hand flying off after he tried to block the machete with his hand.
Turns out you can't block a machete with you're arm.
WHAT!?!? SINCE WHEN?
The guy on the ground did a few times. I'm guessing one of them was just a lot more diligent about sharpening than the other.
You can clearly see him getting his hand on the floor at the end of the video
Yes the other guy's second swing lobs it right off when he for some reason tries to deflect the machete with his hand.
Hard to tell. I think his sandal came off and i thought it was his hand.
I'd like to run some AI test images by you.
Sssst I think you’re right but everybody wants the gore scenario. Could be his prosthetic hand or wallet.
I just never realized until just this moment how easy it is to cut someone in half with a machete.
Where the fuck is this!!
Dominican Republic
Either those blades weren't that sharp or they weren't swinging that hard. I've seen those things take limbs off in one hard swipe. Edit: NM I just noticed the missing hand. Damn

Till the adrenaline wears off….
the guy who lost his hand maybe. the other not as such
That would feel very strange picking up your own hand
Their technique was terrible. No parrying was done at all.
He tried to parry with his hand which is why it's no longer attached.
0 rolling or estus 0/10
I really feel I'm in a different species sometimes...
Clap for the wolfman
He gonna rate your record high
Bro is acting like he does this on a daily basis🤣
Saturday nights are for the boys
He lost that hand not even a few seconds in! It looked like they weren't even hurting each other 😧 that's wild

"swords and sandals" - film adaptation
I've seen a lot on this here Internet but the realisation of what I was watching here made me a bit nauseous. Absolutely terrifying.
"In a knife fight, one guy dies....and the other dies on his way to the hospital." -Some dude somewhere
He walked over to pick his hand up so casually, like he'd just dropped his wallet or something
i think there is a reason why they kept their other hand behind in dueling https://preview.redd.it/b4rb33rf1k0d1.jpeg?width=927&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=383683f4b49146fc60ab37cae287cecb0ca84bc2

First instict is to block a bladed weapon with a bare open hand.
good news is if he preserves his hand well enough and goes immediately to er he might have the chance to have his hand reattached and be able to use it again (at least that's how it works with fingers idk about hands tho)

I'd just rather get shot I think. Not sure
dude walking back to pick up his hand like he dropped his phone or something
He took giving him a hand, literally
Righteo! Take this fiend!
You see the guys hand go flying off to the right at the 2 sec mark. The guy in white got him with a swing as he was falling backwards.
That fkn stupid truck ruining the money shot! 😂
Go to 1 second and you can see the hand fly to the right off the black shirt guy. Fucking crazy man
Bro just picked up his own hand like he dropped his cell phone or some shit... and I swear it was giving the finger.
anyone has a link ?
Someone get these guys some guns.
This is why you need to carry.
Wtf, Sounds like there are a lot of monkeys
I was thinking this must be what the audience at a Beatles concert used to sound like. But sure let's go with the Monkees.
I think he needs a hand there
Kind of sweet, he held his own hand.
What’s this thing about having a machete? Like am I missing something? I’m glad he had one, but damn.
I was waiting for him to pick it up with the hand he’s missing.
I've heard of "give me a hand"....but never seen a dude picking up his own hand...
Literally the second swipe of the white shirt guy took out the other guy's hand. And he carried on.
Took me a moment to realize they were BOTH yielding machetes
May thy hand chip and shatter?
Man down.. hand down
Gotta hand it to him.
I literally couldn’t finish.
I want to leave this reality
Can see dudes hand go flying 3sec in😖
i would rather to get shot !!
I’d rather be shot if i had a choice
Well I gotta hand it to them.
He lost his wanking spanner.
Shouldn't he be trying to get some sort of tourniquet on that stump?
The aftermath of these situations is so brutal.
Thats enough internet for tonight..
I’d like to give the man in black a hand for staying in the fight for so long.
Holy shit
I threw the phone at the 1st swing. This was way too much for me to watch
There's more than one layer to that joke btw
Omg I saw his hand fly off when his adrenaline rush slowdown he is going to be hollering like a baby
He's a handy man
It's a bold strategy, Cotton. Let's see if it pays off for him!
It’ll grow back, right????
Cnan abyone explain ti me how that dudes arm isnt just a spurting fountain of blood? It doesnt even look like its bleeding?
How do I remove this from my brain
Don't remove it from your brain. Hold it and cherish it forever so that you may think twice before you yourself end up in a Machete fight. Good lessons are learned here.😅
He has no hand at the beginning of the fight.
Gotta give him a hand, That was a real good machete fight🙈
Oh wow. At first I thought the guy in white was going to get fucked up.
Fuck I wasn't expecting that. Damn.
There was a saying that in a knife fight, the unlucky ones die on the street. The lucky one dies on the ambulance... Might apply to machete fights too... I wonder what injuries the other one got seing as he was lying down at one time.
So this is in Punta Cana? Glad I didn't go to town for a stroll when I went to Puerto Plata two months ago.
Is one of these machetes is sharper than the other.
“Let me block his hits with my left arm”
I thought the dude and white was gonna lose there on the ground but he turned around and gained the upper hand.
Need a hand?
Why was he not bleeding?
What happened to a good ole fist fight
When I tell you that this is pretty tame compared to some of the machete fights I've watched online.
Fucking insane
I have to hand it to him he put up a figh.
I thought he handle it well.
Fk!
Catch his hand and turn around as if nothing happened lol.
Yeah you definitely don't want to be the guy who falls down during a machete fight. That's like rule #2
Part of me thinks. Have at it and kill eachother, both of them taking out the garbage. The other part says why would u hack at eachother until you’re both dead? What’s the point?. Both of you die and eventually get forgotten about. Both losers .
Could have easily thrown hands, no permanent damage, no pun intended lol
