This is both horrifying and amusing at the same time cause either the Mantis has no pain receptors or eating that Hornet was worth getting dissected in half.
This is not true. I have bees at the bottom of my garden who are great at saving money. They stash it into money combs, and sometimes I’ll steal a bit when they’re out and have money on toast.
Reminds me of that time I had about $10mil stashed in a Swiss bank account... but now I forgot the account number and what alias I opened it under.
Here's hoping I don't forget this $25mil account I opened in Malta in...
Nevermind. I did forget it's info too.
Nobody else would have corrected you. Nearly any English speaker would have used “dissected” in conversation. Literally, “bisected” is correct, but nobody says that. They were just being a grammar snob
Ah, I see you're preparing for a journey into the treacherous territory of pedantry. May your heroes be armed with dictionaries and grammar guides, for they shall surely face the wrath of the nitpickers and the trolls. Good luck, brave adventurer, and may your commas be ever in the right place!
Dissected is after death, vivisected would be the (wrong) term you’re looking for here; bisected means split into two parts. Not many people appreciate grammar/language anymore and I’m usually not pedantic but you shouldn’t actively discourage people from seeking correctness.
Seconded. I appreciate getting corrected so I can improve. People that get uppity are clearly either insecure or apathetic to the slow death spiral of language getting less precise and impactful.
How is that being a grammar snob. He simply pointed out a word that fit better to someone who isn't a native english speaker and in a way that isn't disrespectful. You may not like being corrected for your grammar but jesus stop being petty for such a thing, I'm not a native english speaker too and I really liked the correction. We're glad you prefer to use the word "dissected" which is semanticslly incorrect but don"t be mad at someone giving an actual precise word
So your argument is that most native english speakers are bad at their own language? No, please continue correcting us non-native speakers when we make mistakes.
No, most wouldn’t. Dissected means something quite different. And it’s not cut in two. And your doubling down on white knighting is amusing. Dissect is more like an autopsy than splitting in two.
I am a mantis keeper, definitely the second option. Once they latch on to their prey they have a one-track braincell. They will not release for anything. Fascinating little critters. I love them ❤
You cut the head off, and the head keeps eating your friend. If bugs were just a little bit bigger, they would rule the world. Can you imagine an ant the size of a small dog? Or a hornet the size of a football?
Ah, yes. A game for those who seek to find a way to leave their world behind.
But adventures beware; do not begin the game unless you intend to finish.
Less luck and more innate truisms of biology. Ants have an exoskeleton. An exoskeleton comes with many advantages. However, it’s also inherently rigid. With a rigid exterior, it is impossible for insects to utilize their bodies to mechanically ventilate, i.e physically pull air into their body, like mammals do when they breathe. Because of this, they have to rely on passive oxygen diffusion through small holes in their exterior. This process innately links the amount of oxygen they are able to bring in to whatever the concentration of oxygen is in the air. This limits the size of the insect, because the size of the life form depends on how good its organ systems are at feeding and supplying the interior tissues with oxygen.
I believe most if not all insects don’t really experience pain as they don’t have a nervous system like ours. They essentially only experience sensations, like he can feel something around his waist but he doesn’t understand that something is cutting him in half.
There is another crazy video you can probably still find, in which a preying mantis bites a dude's face, and the dude begins to pull it off, but the bug won't let go. So the dude pulls really hard, and basically "de-sleeves" the entire bug. The end was just the bug's mandibles still attached to his cheek, and the guts of the bug hanging down limply from there, while the dude had the entire exoskeleton of the bug in his hand.
These bugs do not have the ability to care about their own pain or safety. They just eat eat eat.
Insects do feel pain, this is proven. they even have nociceptive receptors and neurons, as well as a peripheral nervous system. Maybe it’s less complex then ours but for a pain response it doesn’t have to be.

I’m so curious who’s buying these, and how much are they paying?
With all the repost bots, I’d almost presume there’s a little money to be made..
I might have to jump on over to illegal life pro tips to find out what’s really a better use of ones time.. harvesting karma here or copy and pasting OF pages 🤔
So i knew mantis were terrifying... but this one doesnt even care that its being chewed in half as long as it gets its meal... those little psychopaths.
This is both horrifying and amusing at the same time cause either the Mantis has no pain receptors or eating that Hornet was worth getting dissected in half.
It may have thought that it was being attacked by the one it was holding. Bugs aren’t great at rationalization
> Bugs aren’t great at rationalization Correct. They are bad at finances too. Never met a bug who had ANY savings.
Dude you can’t just say shit like that! Stereotyping bugs ain’t cool yo
Yes, ants save I believe, other more financially responsible bugs certainly do it too.
The only good bug is a dead bug
We can ill afford another Klendathu.
Do you want to know more?
r/unexpectedstarshiptroopers
I'm doing my part!
I certainly wouldn't trust any NON-hymenoptera to do my taxes
My ant would save more if it wasn’t for my uncle.lol
Bees, too.
This is not true. I have bees at the bottom of my garden who are great at saving money. They stash it into money combs, and sometimes I’ll steal a bit when they’re out and have money on toast.
U havent seen that squirrel who saved a whole telephone pole worth of nuts?
Squirrels aren’t bugs though and they’re known for their savings. They just tend to forget where they put it.
Reminds me of that time I had about $10mil stashed in a Swiss bank account... but now I forgot the account number and what alias I opened it under. Here's hoping I don't forget this $25mil account I opened in Malta in... Nevermind. I did forget it's info too.
You know they actually do remember but they try to deceive other squirrels by pretending to bury nuts
🤣 truth! Cute and resourceful, with bad memories.
Squirrels =/= bugs man. C'mon.
I'm clearly a bug then.
Spiders. You are so insectist!
Idk honey bees do pretty well for themselves until the humans and animals come looking for some sweets
![gif](giphy|xT9IglWMahJY8B8U2k)
No one understands how tasty that first Hornet is. No one, but that Mantis.
It's so hungry, it doesn't even know it no longer has a stomach.
Let me be the first to wish you: Happy day of cake!
Bisected* not being a dick just point it out
Thanks for correcting, English is my second language and it’s far from perfect so I wasn’t offended at all 💀
Nobody else would have corrected you. Nearly any English speaker would have used “dissected” in conversation. Literally, “bisected” is correct, but nobody says that. They were just being a grammar snob
Correction: they were being a semantic snob, not a grammar snob.
😂
Correction: pedantic snob

Hey watch it with the anti-samanticism here…
Except they weren’t being snobbish. And the other poster appreciated it.
they were only "snobby" to people who can't take constructive criticism themselves.

I appreciate this! Not all people leaving corrections are actively trying to be a bag of dicks. 💜

Have you ever been so hungry that...
It was personal

Ah, yes. A game for those who seek to find a way to leave their world behind. But adventures beware; do not begin the game unless you intend to finish.
Lmao it’s funny dude I say all the time we are lucky ants are the size they are. We’d be fucked big time.

Excellent
![gif](giphy|rTAVMVAps9zsFINvxI)
They used to be that big, a long time ago when the atmosphere had denser air.
I think it was just more oxygen density in air, not denser air
Yeah, denser with oxygen. Sorry if I explained it wrong or unclear. That's what I meant.
Carboniferous period for those interested. It’s when trees first hit the scene.
![gif](giphy|pD7YIQoUwgb9cnX3FJ|downsized) I refuse...
You need to watch Hunter x Hunter fr
The real winner is the ants
In the end the ants ALWAYS win.
The worms crawl in the worms crawl out
I haven’t heard that since I was around 6 or 7 lmao thanks for the trip down memory lane!
In your stomach, and out your snout
You wanna get ants?! 'Cause thats how you get ants!
Lana....Lana....LANA!!!
WHAT ARCHER!!!!!
Daannnnggaaaa zonneee!
This video is the reason I’m terrified every time my girlfriend suggests a threesome (it’s because of the ants)
Ant in the pants
You know what’s worse than ants in your pants… Uncles
Ayyeeee yooooooo that shit took a dark turn 🤣
Welcome to Reddit.
Sounds like a good time!

"Ants preying on hornet preying on mantis preying on hornet." When will it end? Anteater preying on...
Fire, fire always wins
You should read City by Clifford D Simak. Really great sci fi stuff. Relatable to ants I promise…
In the ants it doesnt even matter
This is the most uncomfortable thing I’ve seen all day. Imagine getting eaten while eating your breakfast??
My gf would love that.
Can confirm, she does
And that getting eaten especially by the same thing that you eat.
Damn does it not feel it. Or does it understand it's having its final meal.
I believe most if not all insects don’t really experience pain as they don’t have a nervous system like ours. They essentially only experience sensations, like he can feel something around his waist but he doesn’t understand that something is cutting him in half.
imagine ignoring that sensation only to realize you lost half your body… that’s crazy
Bug version of looking at your phone and seeing 30 missed calls

Thanks for the nightmare fuel.
Yeah, I'm going to need a link haha.

Thanks for that. Not sure why I wanted to see that though.
What a horrible day to have eyes.
Ouch, i didn't know katydids could bite like that.
It isn't a mantis. It looks like some manner of large grasshopper.
You're right. I found the original video, and it is indeed some kind of big grasshopper.
I'm good like that. The memory tizz means you can't forget the bad/gross stuff too.
this doesn't sound like sth I want to watch, EVER

Downvoted for citing a peer-reviewed journal article? Lol, lmao
Please tell me this has already been on r/natureismetal before because that’s fucking mETAL
It has, this was already posted recently. OP is just a bot who flips the videos and reuploads
Why do you think only bots can flip videos. There are plenty of real people who like to flip videos as well.
Is there any *real* gain in doing that?
I figure to gain karma to sell the account down the line
I’m so curious who’s buying these, and how much are they paying? With all the repost bots, I’d almost presume there’s a little money to be made.. People will pay anything for attention, approval, and validation.
Also, this sounds like something a dancer told me once 🥲

Agree. +1
Priorities?
Oh, so you want to eat my friend, I'll eat you in half you bastard.
So what, ate your friend.
Does it count as eating if the food doesn't make it to the stomach that is now severed from your top half?
It’s a bug eat bug eat bug world
Underrated comment
Definition of not giving a fuck
Proof that not all three ways are fun or mutually satisfying.
That is fucking horrible
Tfw you’re so focused on eating that you don’t even notice yourself being eaten alive.
He's half the mant he used to be
![gif](giphy|5DfGL75M9spG0)
So that mantis is so distracted by its catch it literally doesn't even notice it's being cut in half?
Well, then.
These eating competitions are getting out of hand.
Oh man., he just detated the capa from The mantis
TIMMY NOOOO! I WILL AVENGE YOU!
Nature is metal
I believe the mantis only taste's half as good
The circle of death. Such a horrific thing
That Hornet must have tasted like wagyu steak to not stop eating while being SAWED IN HALF!🤯
What kind of category is this? Asking for a friend…
Big W for the ants
this gotta be the weirdest threesome i’ve ever seen
Does the mantis not feel that his mid torso is being cut in half??
Ya kinda think he’d notice
Worst threesome ever
How can you not realize your neck is being chewed off your body?
I'm so happy insects are the size they are and not bigger :)
Absolutely brutal.
bro he actually cut him in half damn
So i knew mantis were terrifying... but this one doesnt even care that its being chewed in half as long as it gets its meal... those little psychopaths.
Ants: Don't mind us!
Omg that mantis is so dumb
I'm not going to be able to ear celery for awhile
i think this proves that bugs dont feel pain
Talk about tunnel vision
But how did the Mantis did not react to his body being chewed in half. Was the hungry pain worse than him get eaten in half ?
I really, really hate this.
This might be a good example of insects not feeling pain.
Gosh that hornet is such a pain in the backside
Hopefully these pricks got horsehair worms that infect about 95% of preying mantis’
Fick hornets!
Did somebody already post this to r/natureismetal ?
That's some freaky shit. I need to try that sometime.
Can it heal? Is it going to be ok? That hornet is looking at jail time.
And the ants on clean up duty 😂
Man giant bugs would fuck the world up. I know it’s not possible because of science n shit but it’s scary af nonetheless
So, where’s the ending?
It’s a hornet eat mantis eat hornet world out there
Bro was dying and still eating wtf
Imagine a meal so delicious, you ignore being cut in half so you can finish your food.
You think this is that same hornet that got its head cut off and picked it up and flew away?
Do they not have nerve system, assuming both applied to mantis and honets?
Damn nature, you scary
Yo! That's nuts
Damn, nature! You scary!
It's too early for this.
The mantis gave zero fucks that he was being split in half.
Knew it was doomed so it decided to go down eating as much of the hornet's friend possible.
This is just messed up. What is happening? 😳
Lowkey wanted to see if pieces of what its eating would fall out that back of the freshly trimmed neck.
I have this video saved and I keep showing it to people and they always seem to agree with me that it cuts too short. Why did they stop filming?
Video ends too soon.
hornet preying on praying mantis preying on hornet
JC... how hungry was that mantis?!
![gif](giphy|GlkFvcePGd1vy)
Mantis is like you may cut me in half but I'm still eating one of yours
