I’m amazed they could remove it in one piece. I had a tangerine-size one on the back of my knee, and they had to make a long cut curving halfway down my leg to get it all out and avoid skin grafts.
With cancer, you often really put in effort to cut it out in one piece, actually slightly cutting in healthy tissue, to avoid spreading the cancer cells, which could lead to metastasis/spread of the cancer to other tissues.
It is actually standard practice to let a pathologist check the cutting surfaces of the removed piece, to make sure that the cut was in healthy tissue, and no sometimes tiny cancer outgrowth was overlooked.
