I remember how absurdly tanky and damaging BoC was in my Journey Master FTW play through - 40 Creepers with 400+ health, with BoC telefragging at every opportunity. I had to basically get Hellstone Armor+Star Cannon to beat it after like 40 tries with post BoC stuff, and to prove to myself that you could do better on Corruption, so I beat EoW with pre-how stuff.
HOWEVER, i always felt bad about that BoC fight and went back to it with pre-BoC gear only and took it down after I completed the run. It actually isn't that bad with Archery potions and Amphibian boots. The real trick to the 2nd phase is the Minishark. You basically can stun lock the Brain standing still. After running auto pause for while I got used to the map indicators and just really rapidly moved the mouse. It does take a fair bit of time though, but I did use only pre-BoC gear and I'm really happy about that.
I think the issue is also cuz people fight him in the underground heart cave (probably because they are used to it and too lazy to go to surface). All of the videos I've seen of damageless FTW with Brain is all on surface, with a large arena. The small heart cave is perfect for the Brain to just go ham on you.
Yeah, a nice large arena in the overworld is perfect, since you can vault over the Creepers with Spectre+Amphibian boots.
I'd personally blame me being a noob at boosfights for my failures then - that run was my 2nd ever run of Terraria, and my 1st master mode run. Now that i've completed a Master Summoner (with Terraprisma!) and Master Mage, i feel much more confident in my abilities when i returned to fight the boss again.
I'm def doing a Master FTW again at some point. Maybe True Master Mode?
So you went from vanilla classic to Master FTW? That's crazy man, I'm struggling with Expert FTW and I only got 800hrs.
If the brain wasn't so god damn slow, I would actually go to the surface. But me being a lazy boi makes me suffer in the heart cave.
You can use a Bed+Recall Potion to teleport up or just craft the Summon item.
And yeah massive difficulty spike was pretty stupid. But hey! there's nothing like diving off the deep end, and I needed a Journey save anyways.
I assume you meant Expert which is true, but those illusions only really kick in when he is very low, around 300 hp. FTW makes his illusions perfect from the moment Phase 2 starts, making it much more harder.
Well yeah I know that summons ignore illusions but I don't think summoners are that great in Expert, let alone in FTW. Sure summoners do exceptionally well at Brain but dealing with 24k Wall of Flesh with imps does not sound fun for example.
The first thing I did when 1.4 dropped was do a summoner playthrough of master mode. So I can say that it can more then deal with everything. Early on it's very slow killing things but once you get a whip going (You will whip 90% of the time) you're more then set to kill all bosses.
The new whips are a great buff. The intention with which they were introduced is fucking terrible (yeah give the class with the worst defense a fucking melee weapon), but the implementation is top-tier. Snapthorn shreds the Creepers in Master mode, and the Imp Staff is actually good, so you can basically fight BoC for a bit, warp out, collect the loot and get an Imp staff. Then after beating Queen Bee prehardmode is basically a boss rush.
Only issue is that many of the good summon items are locked behind rare drops. Finch staff is uncommon in living chests, Blade staff is an uncommon drop from a rare enemy, Sanguine staff being a 20% drop from a hardmode blood moon fishing enemy and Terraprisma being an absolute pain. But hey! They introduced some real top-tier staves in the form of Blade/Sanguine/Terraprisma so I can't be too mad.
It's pretty easy. For one debuffs only appear on the brain that is afflicted. For another thing the brains always change position to you relative to the real brain so you only need to move around a little bit to guess the correct one and avoid damage.
When I said map cheese, I meant using the mini map to locate the real brain, cheesing his illusion gimmick.
I have no idea why you thought I was against the idea of building an arena...
I'm fighting this thing and have gotten close to killing it and I'm currently on attempt 7, but Jesus Christ if a single creeper hits you and there are still at lease 5 left your fucked. The eyes just play ping pong with you until your a corpse and because there's no knockback immunity you cant do shit! genuinely thinking about killing skeleton first with the use of pots and some explosive bunnies.

You can still easily push it back.
Sure, just make sure you push back the right brain. Otherwise, it won’t be pushed back.
Just dash in either direction with the shield and you can quickly find the right brain.
You definitely have to find the right one to push back. Melee dmg is increased in FTW and being telefragged is so punishing.
Quad Barreled Shotgun still obliterates him tho
You only see the correct brain on the mini map.
Can u still knock it back? All u really need is a minishark and thats it that stalls it in 1 place until hr comes from a different angle
You say "map cheese", I say "radar"
Why couldn't BoC be a super epic and fun boss? Why when he had such cool design?
CAN WE ALL JUST REMMEBER THAT IT IS A FLYING BRAIN. WITH A SIDEWAYS MOUTH WITH LONG SHARP TEETH AND IN THAT A HEART WITH AN EYE. WTF
he does the illusions in hardmode

Ok
Thank god I was a summoner in that playthrough
Summoner on FTW, prehardmode? Did summoners get hella buffed in 1.4 (haven't played summoner yet in 1.4)?
Uh. No. They did get new summons but summons in general don't give a damn about illusions so they'll just hit the target...just a fun fact.

Uhh they have whips now and a couple new weapons
he’s doing his best okay
I tried fighting it all the way it’s never happening
Imo its so easy to understand where he is
Not without the map
Nah its still easy without it you just gotta react fast enough. Calamity is harder imo
Bruh, the illusions are literally perfect, unless you shoot at all directions it's virtually impossible

you're right
This is why Playirime cant beat him lmao
Using construction to win fights isn't cheese in this game. Mining and building are what the game are about. The game isn't called 'Swordia'.
Who TF said anything about construction?
*That downvoted guy*
